250 mls. milk
500 mls of cream
200g. caster sugar
1 teaspoon of Vanilla paste
2 teaspoons of Rose WATER. ( not essence)
1/2 cup of shelled Pistachios
2 to 4 Turkish delight bars. (Fry's), chopped into 1 cm pieces.
Place Pistachios and sugar into TMX bowl and grind on sp 7/ 15 seconds.
Add everything EXCEPT the chopped Turkish Delight
Process in an ice cream machine until nearly set, then add the chopped Turkish Delight.
If no machine, this will need stirring at least once during freezing , to break up the ice crystals.
This can also be made with Peppermint Bars or Violet crumble Bars.

JD - Chookie gave this recipe to me last week so I made it for my Mum's 90th - she is a Turkish delight lover as is my DD so it went down well as a light dessert after our big lunch on Saturday. I chopped my Turkish Delight bars (2) and pistachios roughly in the Thermomix by using the turbo button in short spurts to get the desired size.
Kimmyh - I made a vanilla version of this today ( don't like Turkish delight ugh). Don't have ice cream maker so froze it in Tupperware slice tray and blitz in TM when semi frozen and returned to freezer. Bit sweet but very yummy and just as good as egg recipes. Will reduce sugar a bit next time. Hard to stop eating it. Great recipe to have when no eggs in house. Thank you for posting.
jeninwa - Made this last night in my new ice cream maker, turned half into Turkish Delight and the other half into Cherry Ripe, DH wasn't to keen on the chunks of frozen Cherry Ripe, will cut smaller next time. Thanks Chookie for another great recipe.
CP - This ice-cream was delish. Had it with stewed plums. It's going to be so much creamier in my ICM'.
ES - I made this ice-cream again as plain vanilla, and churned it in my new ice-cream maker. I reduced the sugar to 175g and may reduce the sugar down to 150g next time. This is so simple and doesn't set rock hard in the freezer. We love it.
Herbal - Love, love, love this!! Made it last night and put it in my new ice cream maker (I bought the Breville BCI600 and it's awesome). So, so easy, so beautiful. Thanks so much!

I have had a look at Alyce's recipe as I had forgotten she had one. It looks very nice but is quite different.
The recipe I have posted has no eggs and doesn't need heating/cooking. The process is also quite different.
In the name of research, we should try both ;D

An Indian spice shop should have some.

Or a Middle Eastern Shop or try the Adelaide market. I have even seen it in Safeway here.

courton, what do you mean? Is it that you don't have an Ice cream Machine ? If this is the case, just stir it a couple of times with a fork before it is fully set. In this case do what Judy did and add the Turkish Delight to the TMX at the start. If you like larger lunps, like me, add the TD after the last stir.

ES - I have bought rosewater from a chemist. You have to ask for it where you get your prescriptions from, but for some reason they stock in there, and much cheaper than in gourmet shops.

Just be careful it is not rose essence as this is much stronger and you would need only a drop or two.

I am never ever going to make this again. I ate 2 cones of this for lunch.
Seriously, though, yesterday we had visitors for lunch and after sweets, ( Isi's light coffee cream,) I mentioned that I had made this. With a spoon each , we tucked in to the bucket and did a curious taste test. Our visitors. Are off today to buy an Ice Cream machine.
Today I am soaking the raisins for Rum and Raisin Ice Cream.

CP, I think you could make this and freeze in ice block trays. Don't add the chopped up Turkish delight. When frozen, pop into TMX and wizz until creamy, then add Turkish delight and fold through. Freeze again. I haven't done this, but can't see why it wouldn't work.

I'll try that chookie, cos as much as DH loves icecream I would have to find somewhere easily accessible to store and use it regularly. I'm wondering what the difference is in the icecream doing it this way?

Kimmyh, we are also finding it a bit sweet. Could easily reduce the sugar.
Cp, I think that the difference is that the machine will make it more creamy.

Sorry Chookie, missed this comment. I rate it very highly - nice and smooth, no eggs, no cooking, what's there not to like about it ;D
I don't mind the sweetness of it but if you are going to reduce the sugar content - by how much, 1/2 cup or more?
I want to try this recipe by substituting mashed banana for the Turkish delight and pistachios. I think it's a great base for all sorts of ideas.

CP you must have an icecream machine. Mine is on the floor under the shelves in the pantry. It is heavy to lift out and use but well worth it. I use it a lot more in the summer but still make some icecream in the winter.

I have mine sitting on a metal cupboard in the laundry, a perfect place and height for it - they are heavy little devils.

CP and Frozzie, i have just been reading about making ice cream in the TMX. If you put the butterfly in after it is smooth, beat for 20 seconds on sp 4 , it will be smoother.

Chookie, i made some icecream last night, but my icecream maker didnt work very well, and it has frozen a little icy. Could I chop it up, re - whizz it and then freeze it again?

Thanks - Ill give it a try tomorrow and see how it goes. I still have some of the mixture unfrozen because it wouldnt fit in the icecream maker, so I might add some of that as well to make it easier to blend.

Ok, I know this is a thread about Turkish delight icecream, and I made strawberry icecream, but I've followed advice and re- whipped the frozen, icy icecream from yesterday with the unfrozen leftover custard in thermie, and I now have 2 litres of strawberry( minus one cone for DS) in the freezer. It isn't fully frozen yet, but its much more creamy now. Thanks!

In my booklet there is a recipe for Apple Crumble ice cream, might try this, DH thinks its a waste of good Apple Crumble :D :D :D

Anyone who lives around Subiaco (WA) I've just found out about an icecream maker special. The Cuisanart compressor has again been dropped from $439 to $379. "Dallimores" on Rokeby Road. I've got one set aside so I'm safe from the stampede :D

CP that is a very good deal if it is the latest one. NOT the one with the arm over the top. They are $499 in Melbourne and I got 20% off. Then they threw in a Blender worth $120. The ice cream maker is a great little machine.

CP, the old model worked from above with an arm you had to fit to do the churning. There were problems with it so they bought out a completely different model which works from below. This is the latest model.

I went town Indian grocers today and asked for rose water. I was directed to a shelf of beauty products;)
I said that I wanted to cook with it p, so I was directed to a dodgy looking bottle amongst vanilla Essence and rose Essense. DD pointed out that the list of ingredients for the rose water and essence were the same. I hope I have bought the right stuff.

No, it was at Edwardstown. I did get some black sesame seeds that I know I need for a recipe, but I can't think which one :( I'm sure I will work it out one day!

I've got black sesame seeds too. I put them on sausage rolls and bread rolls. Do you think it's a FFS recipe? Sesame crusted salmon in QFITTM.

Black sesame seeds are also called Nigella seeds. They have a lonely flavour. Can be put in bread or on top.

I think it may have been the sesame crusted salmon, although bread also rings a bell.
We had the icecream for our Christmas Eve dessert after mass tonight. It was delicious.
I kept stirring it as it was setting, and I am really pleased with the way in which it has turned out.

Glad it was OK for you. I used the base and added 3 peppermint crisp bars and 1 drop of green colour. This is the favourite of GD .

ES, good to hear that you can reduce the sugar. I made similar recipe and used Yoghurt instead of the milk. GC ate it all.

I know this is an old post, but I'm looking for simple ice cream recipes. I don't use white sugar anymore and was wondering what I could use instead of caster sugar.
Would honey work? Other than that, I guess I could use raw caster.

MJ, use raw caster. Honey is very Turkish but might be difficult to get the balance right.
