Caravan Food Ideas
« on: June 28, 2012, 03:54:53 pm »
Just wondering if anyone has any good caravan food ideas. I have 2 children and we are traveling for 10 days in the country with 3 other families.
Being relatively new to thermomix, I was wondering what would be fab meal ideas.
Thanks - Sandra

I try to be anyway. We make mainly casserole type things, all in one meals and risottos. For sweets, custards, rice puddings and more rice puddings. (DH likes rice pudding). I even make the varoma bread if we need it. PM me if I can help with any special questions.

Thank you for links and ideas.
I am just loving experimenting at the moment.

The kids screw their nose up at the start, but I have struck some real winners.
Living in country SA with no shops for 40kms the Thermomix has been a winner.
Thank you all for being so kind  :D

Just for the record, here's a Sistermixin' response to this question:

Thanks Cecilia. They could be very helpful. I would suggest to anyone using their thermomix when holidaying, try the recipe at home first, thinking in holiday mood.
I've probably already suggested my idea. When I make something for everyday, if it suits my van cooking, I print the recipe and when I have a bundle I have them spiral bound. This way I have several little books I use in the van.
I can scrawl under the recipes if I wish. I also hillight any spices etc that I will need. If it is a common spice I take it along. If I will only use it in one or two recipes I make up the spice mix in small click seal bags and put the name of the recipe on the outside.

It's all a bit of trial and error , but you do get it right eventually.

I saw a small spiral bound book in Dymocks today called "Keep it Simple" (sounds familiar  ;)) for use in a caravan. I didn't have a real good look cos I don't have a caravan and it wasn't a TM book but would probably be worth looking at if you were a happy camper

I've just started meal planning for our 10 days away in Maroochydore. I'm sure once we are there, we will have BBQ's etc but need to be organised on the trip up and the trip back. We leave Good Friday  ??? so will have lentil bolognaise that night from the dreampot, stopping at Yamba and then onto Maroochy the next day which will be a full set up of the camper trailer and again will need a simple dreampot meal.
I'm hoping to stay as vegan as possible but it will be pain in the sit-me-on to be cooking 2 meals while away. So probably a compromise and go vegetarian with a few meat meals.
