I am really finding it hard to get even close to my $150 budget lately!
My budget is for all shopping - meat, vege, groceries, toiletries, cleaning products. But I seem to be lucky to keep it under $200 most weeks. Just over $180 this week, and nothing exciting in there. There were a couple of more expensive items (sack of spuds, bulk raw sugar) but there is always something needing to be stocked up. The only "luxury" item is a jar of my fave olives as I want to try the crispy olives recipe!  Not sure where I am going astray, or if prices are really higher.

Are you shopping from a menu plan Jo?

I kind of do the menu plan at the time I order (online) once I see what is on special. I see what meats are on special, plan meals for those, plus usually 2-3 meat-free dinners, and add the ingredients I need, then go back and double check in the pantry and cross off anything that's lurking in there! Then make sure I have added enough fruit and vege for the week etc.
And now I don't even have pet food to add to the bill :( so surely it should be cheaper!

Hi Jo, i thought most people were excluding non food items on this thread. I would have thought $180 for a family including non food items would be on the lower side of average.

A lot of us include the lot Wonder, even with my low figures - everything is included.

Will just keep trying...
I have looked through my figures for this time last year (thinking it might be seasonal), and we are definitely well up on what we were spending.  And then I was fitting in the odd bottle of wine etc, which I haven't done in a while now.

Sounds a good goal, Hally!  Maybe I need to plan a "reward"!!  ;D

Jo I find that the price of food has gone up heaps. I only buy meat when it is on special and plan my menu round that. The prices haven't gone up by a few cents, it is 20-30 cents. I can't remember what it was but something that I buy regularly had gone up by 37 cents last week.

I am having to adjust my budget as things go up and up. Anyone notice butter has gone up to $1.42 from $1.38 both in Woolies and Coles.

I spent $125 today but I did need a lot of pantry items.

I keep putting things back theses days. Takes me twice as long as I am so careful.

Yes the prices have really risen, $120 is more realistic now but I will try and stay in the $100 budget. :)
