tuna mornay with dry pasta
« on: May 31, 2012, 11:26:08 am »
Hi, my sister is trying to cook tuna mornay with dry pasta. She found the recipe online somewhere, but the pasta doesn't seem to be cooking. Anyone had an experience with this and how do we fix it  :-)) the kiddo's are waiting for dinner and I don't want them to break a tooth  ;)

Are you cooking this one BBB. Did you stir the uncooked pasta through the other ingredients before setting the time.

Hi JD, nope not that one. It was called Basic Tuna Mornay (pasta optional). Yes we stirred the past through and have cooked it 30 minutes extra than said. OMG not good. Should we take it out and microwave it? I told her to check this forum first.

Sorry I can't help. I always cook my pasta first. Good luck x

I don't know BBB, I've never cooked pasta in the microwave.  By now the kids will be terribly hungry though. Guess you can try it and see what happens, you've got nothing to lose at this stage.  Do try that other one at some point though, it does work ;)

We put it all in the microwave and the pasta did cook a bit more, but still uncooked bits and the bits that are ok are not great. Oh well, it's edible and the kids are eating it. Thanks JD I will try the one you posted next time. We LOVE tuna mornay. Probably should have done the pasta separate. We really need a lesson on the verona, haven't even used it yet  :(

I make a lot of recipes with dry pasta. You must make sure there's a lot of liquid. I use the ThermoServer to finish off for about 5 minutes.
A great cook is one who can rustle up a fabulous family meal with some freezer burnt chops, wilted carrots, sprouting potatoes and cabbage that's gone brown on the cut edges.
