help with ingredients for a new user
« on: March 24, 2013, 05:30:08 am »
Hi    If a recipe shows the ingredient as just flour does this always mean plain flour. The recipe also uses bakers yeast as well.
Can I use self raising or will this ruin the result.

Hi Rob,
What are you making? That will give us an idea of what type of flour you should use...if it is bread, I usually use bread flour
I have a Facebook page with all things cooking, you'll find it here: https://www.facebook.com/What-Amber-Ate-1097437023601587/

If it says flour, I just use plain flour. Especially if you're using yeast - I don't htink I've ever seen a recipe using self-raising flour AND yeast, but that's just me.

I wouldn't mix yeast & SR flour together either. I think you could you use most types of Plain Flour. If you are making bread a Baker's Flour is good as it is lighter and will make your bread fluffier. I often use wholemeal spelt for my pizza dough, but find it takes longer to rise. Good luck :)

Ditto to all of the above.
May all dairy items in your fridge be of questionable vintage.
