Chit Chat / Child Safe Recipes
« on: April 13, 2011, 05:13:37 am »
I am looking for a few Thermomix recipes that my boys can make on their own, they are 16 and 14 and totally inept ( along with their father ) in the kitchen. They have sucessfully made TM Macaroni cheese by themselves and I was looking for other similar kid friendly meals they can make when I am not there. I am looking for kid taste friendly- something they may see as a treat cause mum is not there harping on about good food choices, easy, safe recipes that may encourage them to start cooking.

I know by now they "should" be able to cook for themselves ( according to them they can cause they can turn on the oven and put pies in...doesn't fall into my "good food choices" ) but I  love cooking and like to spoil them rotten and the only time they will really get to cook something is while I am at work ....though it would be lovely to occassionally  go out for dinner without them and let them cook thereselves....even though I already know the mess I will have to clean up when I get in will probably not be worth the meal out!  :o

Questions? Technical Issues? The Survival Guide / TM Baking Powder
« on: April 01, 2011, 02:09:09 am »
I made the baking powder for the EDC a few weeks ago, I "thought" it would be great to eliminate SR flour from my staples at home, I have tried it with plain flour in the Chocolate Bimby Cake and it was a total disaster coming out more like fudge... I have been making SR flour  bimby cake almost every week for school lunches and never had a issue with it. Is this baking powder only for things like muffins etc or should I be able to get rid of my SR flour?

Questions? Technical Issues? The Survival Guide / Meringue????
« on: February 09, 2011, 10:27:10 pm »
I know this topic has been brought up many time BUT..... I have made the Lemon Meringue Pie in the EDC about 5 times, the first time perfect meringue, every time since then I have ended up with foam rather than silky egg whites?
I don't know what I am doing wrong I have watched the videos, reread instructions, done the bowl with vinegar and boiling water. I know some people give up but I got it right the first time !!!
I don't know if I am under whipping, overwhipping etc, I get volume but it is not that shiny silky meringue, its "foamy"
Help ...please

Chit Chat / Wholefood - Jude Blereau on special for Kindle
« on: September 22, 2010, 04:01:30 am »
Wholefood: Heal, Nourish, Delight [Kindle Edition]
Jude Blereau

This is on special for kindle at amazon for $2.23
http://www.amazon.com/Wholefood-Heal-Nourish-Delight-ebook/dp/B001FBFGZW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&m=AG56TWVU5XWC2&s=digital-text&qid=1285118430&sr=1-1

Not sure how it will transpose for Kindle ( I have bought it but not yet looked at it ) I suppose it will be fine as she doesn't have a lot of pictures in her books ...other wise Kindle for PC is free ( would give you the pics in colour), great price, I know her books have been talked about here before.

Chit Chat / Keeping track of your recipes
« on: August 26, 2010, 05:20:58 am »
There was some talk some time ago about recipe software etc, I have used Mastercook for years and love it ... but as an only 6mth vetran of thermomix cooking I needed another quicker way to grab recipes from the forum/internet to try before I decided if the recipe will make it to the family favorites.
I came across Evernote http://www.evernote.com/, this is a free piece of software ( there is also a paid version ) it is works almost identical to Microsoft Onenote ( that I don't have ). When I find a recipe to try I highlight it, right click and add to evernote and it goes straight to the software, you can have as many notebooks as you like...the software syncronises to "somewhere"  ??? so that it can be available anywhere for you...online...on your iphone...laptop etc. I can use the online version at work  to save recipes to it ( found during my lunch hour of course ! ) then have it all there on my laptop at home to which I have the full free program loaded on.
The best part is the you can tag your recipes to make them easy to find and the search feature is fantastic.... meaning you don't have to remember the actual name of the recipe (ie: search isi's ) once I have tried them and made any changes I need to them I can easily find all the recipes I have tagged that I like, transfer them to my recipe softwear where I can use them in my menu planning.
I have about 120 recipes sitting in there, some I have tried, most want to try...its so quick and easy. I also keep a other notebooks in the software for ideas like gifts/links etc....helps me keep track of things without notepaper and eases having to try and remember everything.

My Thermomix is only 3 weeks old, this evening after using it I noticed that there was an ice cube that had dropped behind the machine so I moved it to wipe it up and though that I would turn the machine onto its back and wipe the feet with a damp cloth( as I read to do this ever now and then), now the screen has gone all stupid, there are no errors but it is displaying everything on the screen at the same time ( all the display ) changing to scales etc the display is different but equally unreadable and its kind of flicking all over the place. I would swear that it is like a digital watch that has gotten wet, ( which I can see no possible way how this could have happened ) Has anyone seen this before?

Chit Chat / Now I know what you were all going on about!
« on: April 18, 2010, 09:13:31 am »
We after reading, lusting,  ordering ( unseen ), waiting and recieving I am now converted to the Thermomix world.
Alice ( after the cook/housekeeper in  The Brady Bunch ) arrived at a delivery demo on Friday afternoon, that night she made sorbert ( didn't go over well with the husband but kids loved it), Saturday she started the day with my 13 y.o. making his own porridge. The onto EDC muffins ( not a big hit ) I tried an old family recipe for a boiled fruit cake ( perfect ), orange juice,  then for dinner she made, foccacia bread EDC minestrone ( couldn't fit the pasta in so when without that ) then the biggest hit the EDC Lemon Meringue Pie ( DH husband said my best one ever! )
She has also been busy today with more porridge, Bread rolls, Lentil and walnut patties and Peanut chilli sauce for lunch, she is busy now making Tomato Sauce with the glut of tomatoes from the garden and I am hoping tonight she can cope with mashed Potatoes and steamed veg, Oh I forgot juice again today ...apple, manderine and orange.
And I think I have also finally worked out how to get the lid on first go! So after BIG doubts on Friday night I think she will settle in just fine as the new hired help.
It really is a whole new way of cooking to get used to ( and I am stunned :o that I have admitted to naming a household appliance so not like me but "themomix" gets a bit long after a while ) and now I think I do know why you all talk of your Thermomix's so fondly!

« on: April 12, 2010, 02:24:49 am »
I am awaiting delivery of my TM later this week ( I hope ) and was wondering what food staples I will need in bulk that I didn't before? I already do alot of "from scratch" baking but not other things like cordials, sauces, mayonaises etc.
I think I may need to get things like Olive Oil in bigger quanties but what else?

PS am already making ice!

Chit Chat / Demo...Delivery....what order?
« on: April 06, 2010, 09:44:26 am »
I am the classic TM wannabee.... only discovered them last week and I want it now!
I am rural NSW and have found a very new consultant that has a weekender in my areas so is not here full time.
I am having a demo in about 2 weeks, do I pay for the machine first and get her to deliver it then? Or wait and then order at the demo? Are their benefits in doing it one way or the other? Incentives? Costs? etc?
Is there a delivery charge? Do I still get the thermoserver ( which I know I will use allot ) if I don't have a demo  but place an order? Do I have to have a delivery demo ? Please explain how it all works, I am a bit confused.....the TM looks great but it seems hard to actually get your hands on one
Thanks
