Hello
Here It is PLUMTIME - and I loooove Plums in every way :D :D
I found a great Plumliquer recipe in the German Forum ( http://www.wunderkessel.de/forum/kalt-alkohol/62166-schneller-zwetschgenlikoer.html )and I made It now 4 times :-)) :-)) :-)) :-))
My husband says it's for ladies ...... hehehe - yummiiiiiii
Besides being easy to do has the distinction of being consumed as soon as it cooles! 8) 8)
Of course if you wait a few days it becomes always better!
Here goes!
Recipe Name:
EASY PLUM LIQUOR
(http://i470.photobucket.com/albums/rr64/melgaco/DSC_0302.jpg)
400 grams Water
800 grams of Plum already ginned
300 grams of schnapps (white brandy)
100 grams Sugar (I use brown)
Preparation:
Place the water in the Thermomix and basket inside with Plums
Programs 30 minutes / Varoma / Speed 1
(http://i470.photobucket.com/albums/rr64/melgaco/DSC_0300.jpg)
Now remove the basket of plums (reserving them and use later to crumble, pie or jam!)
Add the sugar and Schnapps to the existing liquid and Schedule 7 minutes / 90 ° / Speed 2

That's it - now it's just bottle and cool!
As you see it is very difficult to do ;)
Hope you enjoy it too - hiks!
-
Sounds good to me isi - how do you drink it? Straight or mixed with what? How much does that recipe make, about 500 - 600mls? Looks a nice one for our Christmas goodies baskets this year, yes it is not too early to be thinking ahead ;)
-
Nice work Isi. Very classy.
Good to see the Australian in the background !!
-
Hi
We drink it straight judy - it doesn't make much - maximal 600ml.
I am going to make some attractive labels to put on the bottles to offer!
If there is any left of course ;)
That is why I have that guardian looking after them :D Thermo!!!!
-
Don't think I'd mess with him - those beaks can do some damage. ;) ;) ;D
-
Isi I can't wait for the plums to arrive here to give this a try.
-
love him...whats his name? tell us a little more about major mitchell isi
-
I know I am probably having a blonde moment, but does a plum already ginned just mean the seeds removed? Or has it been treated somehow?
-
I interpret it as taking the stone out Kimby83 ;D
-
I had forgotten all about this recipe from isi but it might just be on my list when I see some nice plums available. I've some caramel schnapps I could use - I wonder if that would be suitable? Love recipes where you get 2 items for the price of 1, especially if it includes a bottle of liqueur ;D Thanks for bumping the recipe Kimby, very timely at this time of the year when people start thinking of Christmas hamper ideas.
-
Maybe a time to hunt up and bump up all of Isi's contributions!! She's wonderful!! ;D ;D
-
I made this today. As Isi said " it's so easy" :D :D :D I suggest that after the plums have been steaming for 30 minutes you leave then in situ for a few minutes,so all the juice can drain into the TM bowl before proceeding with the next step.I made 1 1/2 bottles.

What alcohol did you use for yours CC?
-
I bought a bottle of plain schnapps Judy.It was the only one on the shelf that wasn't flavoured with something.
-
I've finished all my strawberry liqueur so I hope the plums hurry up here and in can try this. I guess I could use vodka in it.
-
Which is cheaper, vodka or schnapps?
-
I think my schnapps was cheaper ???
-
Thanks CC, may as well go with the cheapest. Like Cookie, I'll wait for the plums to become available now.
-
I have vodka in the cupboard.
-
Will be making this when our plums are ready and am also wondering if it would work with cherries using same method ?
-
I don't see why not. I love cherries but they are so expensive over here.
-
I've sampled a few glasses of this :-)) It's wonderful.Even DH thought it pretty good when he sipped some of mine ;)
-
Made this today substituting cherries for the plums.

-
That looks so good Marie.I loved the plum liquor ;D I will give your idea a go ( if I remember :-))) when the cherries come into season. ;)
-
Great, another option ;D Now to look out for some cheap cherries.
-
Has anyone tried this with vodka instead of schnapps?
I have a lot of plums....and a lot of vodka. ;)
-
I would give the vodka a go Jo. ;D
-
Done ;D will have taste test later and report back.
-
Marie I missed this. They look fantastic. I love the bottles.
-
Can this be made with a mix of plums? DS2 brought some in last night and ther are some normal big red ones, yellow ones with a strange looking bump on the bottom of them (never seen them before) and some I think are damsons.
-
I made this two days ago with small half cooked ( with the heat ) blood plums, added some Thai flavoured brandy which no one really liked and it is quiet nice had some with ice and dry ginger,
-
I can't see why not Margaret.
-
Made this today with the mixed plums but haven't tasted it yet.
-
I get a fruit box delivered from a local orchard every few weeks, and there were a lot of Amber plums in the last box that didn't seem to be softening, so I made a batch of this liqueur. I didn't have any schnapps, so used vodka.
I left the plums to drain as CC suggested, and made enough to fill the empty 70cl vodka bottle. It already tastes lovely, really plummy :D, and I'm sure it will only improve if it gets the chance to mature.
I have frozen the plum pulp to use in a crumble in the winter. Love that there is no waste!
-
This recipe is a godsend! I have a good friend who lives in Vienna and every time she visits she brings another bottle of schnapps. I like most kinds of alcohol, but can't STAND schnapps. It's like drinking rubbing alcohol to me. Just have to wait for plums to be in season and I'm clearing out the back of my liquor cabinet! Because they were gifts the bottles are all lovely and decorative so I'll be sure to put mine right back in!
-
A use for the schnapps at last Laura. Perhaps you could send a bottle of your plum wine back home with her next time she visits ;D
-
Just wondering if this would work with blackberries.
-
I ended up making some with vodka and another batch with gin. We liked the gin better and it's almost all gone. Next year will do more!
I also loved the cooked plums - I put a few small containers away in the freezer just in small portions to have with my breakfast. But the freezer was pretty full with Xmas hams, so had to eat most of the plums straight away. It's a hard life. ;)
-
Margaret there are recipes for homemade blackberry liqueur on the internet eg
http://www.goodcocktails.com/liqueur_recipes/blackberry_liqueur_recipe.php
http://www.food.com/recipes/ - an even easier one
-
I haven't done this yet. I must do it before the plums disappear.
-
Have the makings, ran out of steam today.
-
Made this with vodka instead of schnapps, beautiful. My plums were the dark variety and with the steamed plums I broke them up a bit and topped them with a crumble mixture. Will freeze and bake as required.
-
Lots of plum goodies at your place Judy.
-
I'm not much of a drinker but love this liquor. ;D
-
It's a refreshing drink with lemonade on a warm day. Might have to make some more when the next lot of plums arrive ;)
-
Nice over ice cream.
-
OMG. I had to have it with an ice block as it was still hot.

I bought 2 more bottles of Vodka today ready for the next load of plums. I used my Coles gift voucher from Hobart and only had to put $10 with it. It's a lovely drink cookie but I dilute mine with lemonade.
-
I probably will too. I just had to taste it. It was nice with the ice block. I'd love one now but it is only 2pm. A bit early for me to start drinking, especially alone. :D :D
-
Blackberries are just coming into season so will be making a Blackberry version that CC linked. Thanks CC.
-
I made 2 batches of this liqueur again last night, that's probably it for the plums from my source this year. I added sugar to the leftover plums used in this recipe then pureed it.
I've now made a plum chocolate cake, some plum puddings and a plum smoothie for breakfast.
Next, a frozen plum yoghurt mixed in the ice-cream maker.
Lastly, plum ice-cream.
-
Judy you must be plum worn out. It all looks good.
-
Thanks cookie. The season doesn't last long, thankfully all done before this heat gets worse.
-
Lovely cooking Judy 8)
-
Judy, love all the things you have made with the free plums.
-
It was great fun Chookie, I had so many recipes from which to choose that I will need to start a 'fruit' file so that I can find them easily next year.
-
Love this recipe. Made a batch today.
-
I am so disappointed that some unknown person has raided mum's tree this year! She's been away in hospital a couple of times getting new knees, but that's no excuse!!! Her place was being looked after, and it was only a couple of days each time she was away, but during the second trip (we think) her tree was completely stripped. >:( So no jam, steamed plums or this delicious drink for another year.
-
That's disappointing Jo, fruit season comes and goes in a flash and it's such a long wait until the next one.
-
Oh Jo I'm so sorry to hear that your Mum was robbed of her plum harvest. No wonder you are spiriting feathers!!
-
I had a small sip of this last night before book club. It was only small as I was driving. The lady next to me asked me what I had to drink as it smelt like plums! It was only about 2 teaspoons. :-)) :-)) :-)) :-)) :-))
-
Ha ha, she was spot on cookie.
