I need to lose about 7kg and have tried to reduce, but I'm just not good at it! I figured I'd give Herbalife a go and it seems to be doing the job.
I'm not keen on the idea of shakes, but am willing to try. They're fine if you add fruit and oats. I love the tea, that's my saviour and the vitamins don't make me nauseous if I take them without food. That's a bonus, since Swisse and other ones do.
So, has anyone else tried HL? It's quite expensive, but I don't plan to be on it for more than two months. Once my weight is down, I have enough nutritional knowledge to maintain it, I'm sure.
-
I've never tried it, but just wanted to wish you good luck with your weight loss.
-
My old manager and her partner were right into Herballife and had been using it for around 20 years. They also sold all the products and I always had to laugh that using them as examples wouldn't make me want to try the products! I think like all things it works for some and not for others. Good luck.
-
I've been watching my weight since weighing myself recently and discovering I'd put on over 20kg since getting married over 30 years ago! I'm not huge, but that weight was 67.8kg and I'm only 5 foot 3. I have a very small frame. (I weighed 48kg when I married)
I'm already down to 63.5, so something is working!!
-
Good luck Megan, haven't tried it but if it gives you the incentive to start to loose weigh it will be ok.
-
Congratulations MJ. Losing weight is not an easy thing to do.
-
No haven't tried it and wasn't too keen on shakes myself but I am currently using the Lose Baby Weight shakes, which I think are cheaper. On the website they have a nutritional analysis comparing Herbalife shakes to these. Let me know if you would like the link.
Also there a lot of reviews on the net which aren't that good in terms of their business plan. I looked them up when I had a friend encourage me to switch to Herbalife instead of Lose Baby Weight.
-
;D Since I'm 56, I don't think I would qualify for the "Lose Baby Weight" program!! I'm not worried about the business plan. I do feel their products could do with some re-vamping - ie use Psyllium instead of guar gum and real vanilla instead of artificial flavour in the shakes, but other than that, I'm happy with it.
-
It's called Lose Baby Weight as it's targeted at mums (and safe for breastfeeding) however it is a way to lose weight for everyone, even dads.

Tasty how are you finding to lose baby weight? Have you been losing? Sorry MJ for hijacking. :)
-
Yes I have lost weight and back to my prepregnancy weight before daughter no.2. I have lost weight despite not exercising or using low fat products (I don't believe in low fat but rather healthy eating with real food) and even giving in to temptations like chocolate and other not so great snacks.
Now that my youngest daughter is 12 weeks old, I will be putting in more effort to eat better and exercise so that I can return to my prepregnancy weight before no.1
-
That's great to hear, Tasty! I'm happy with Herbalife right now, but will check out the Lose Baby Weight products too. It's good to have something to compare.
I don't believe in low fat products either.
-
Low fat products are often full of sugar.
-
I don't believe in low fat products and won't purchase them. I find it amazing how many people think I'm crazy!!
We are actually struggling to buy yogurt at the moment that isn't baby yogurt and is full fat - with the exception of the top of the line single containers.
-
I agree with Wonder.. low fat products are abundant and ppl are heavier than ever. Loaded with sugar & chemicals - For eg low fat yoghurt is higher in calories than a full fat one.
In regards to weight loss... It is keeping the weight off that is hard for most ppl, rather than losing it.
Try to find a lifestyle/regime that is going to keep the weight off long term. Can anyone really live on Herbalife or 2 shakes a day etc for the rest of your life?? It's a lifestyle thing...
Good luck with your challenge.
-
I tried herbalife, 20 years ago.
Not good on shakes, and tablets that are just filled with appetite suppressants, not vitamins.
Real food, not shakes for long term results.
-
obbie, I was like that when I first heard of Herbalife many years ago. However, I do think things have changed.
I'm an inveterate ingredient checker and the vitamins pass my test. (Many of the ingredients are from herbs and other plants.) As does the shake powder. I checked the ingredients against the one that Tasty mentioned and it's way better.
I'm not a shake person, either. But, I manage to down one each morning by adding an apple, a banana, some maca powder and some rolled oats all blitzed in Thermie. Normally, I don't eat fruit, so this is a good way to make me eat it. I've lost nearly 4kg in two weeks and I actually feel fantastic.
Different strokes for different folks.

Megan - you mentioned that you compared Herbalife to Lose Baby Weight and said that it is better. I'm not familiar with the ingredients in Herbalife but this is the comparison table I was talking about. I would interested to hear why you think it is better.

Well done MJ. Great that you are adding fruit and other nutrients to the shakes.

Tasty, I wasn't looking at that comparison. LBW does look better when compared. It's certainly cheaper.
I was looking at the Vitamins and Minerals by daily percentage, which in many cases are higher.
What I was meaning is that HL is way better for me. LBW has the extras needed for breastfeeding mothers.
I honestly didn't compare any other shakes at all when looking at HL, I just wanted to lose weight and feel good and thought it would be the easiest way to go. Plus a few of my friends are using it and were very happy with energy levels etc.
It's a bit like the thermal cookers, you become very passionate about your machine! :D
This morning's shake is: a whole apple, a banana, 1 medium scoop maca powder, 1 small scoop psyllium husk, 1 large scoop chia seeds, 2 large scoops shake mix and 300ml almond/cashew milk.
Obbie, going through this programme has actually encouraged me to eat more whole foods and be more careful in my food choices when shopping for food for myself. I actually eat fruit now, whereas I never ate it previously.
-
good for you mj, my sister did a shake thing not sure of the name but she did wonderfully well and hasn't looked back ;D
-
Good on you Megan.
If it works, great. ;)
I have tried so many diets, and find once I come off them, the weight comes back. :-\
My weight has been stable for 12 years, so that is good.
yes, I need to loose 10 kilos, but I am happy where I am now. I don't eat much fruit, only stone fruit at Christmas..
-
That's my worry, too. I don't know that I really want to drink a shake for a meal replacement for the rest of my life!!
-
MeganJane, so what happens when you come off the shakes.
do you have to add the fruit to the shakes.
-
Off topic but I lost ten kilos doing nothing but switching from low fat products to full fat products due to wanting to Breast feed my children and give them all the good fats in pregnancy. It's amazing how much sugar is in low fat products. As a nation we are all blind sighted to it as well. I found it to be the quickest way to lose weight and I wasn't even trying! I find 1/2 cup of muesli and milk or a piece of ago toast and a Chai tea will get me to lunch.
-
Avo!
-
I must agree about full fat and low fat products. The low fat always seem to be full of sugar. :'(
-
Ditto with the full fat. I always use full fat products if recipes call for low fat, etc.
I've come across these shakes and am thinking of giving them a go next year. The lady is from Perth and apparently these are whole food based. What do others think?

The only concern I have ever had with shakes ( not that I have ever tried them) is the difficulty of going back to normal food.
-
I agree with your thoughts Cookie. I worry that shakes starve the body and so the body stores fat unsure of when it's next decent meal is. That's just my experience with friends. Shakes don't teach people how to create new habits. I feel like its a bandaid solution which often results in even more weight going on after the shakes are stopped. Of course this is my opinion only.
-
If you look at my diet, its healthy, veges, salads, proteins.
just no time to exercise, when at work for 45 hours a week, huge house and kids, and parents to look after.
-
Just a bit of a catch up with this topic. I lost 11 kg on Herbalife and didn't do low fat, but reduced (changed, really to rapadura etc) my sugar and starches and full fat.
I've been off Herbalife for over a month and have since lost another kilo, so pleased with that. I still take the Multivitamin and the Flora Fibre (a probiotic). Feeling better than ever! I still have a Herbalife smoothie every now and then for breakfast when I'm really busy or have to leave early. I love them!
-
Congratulations MJ.
-
Congratulations MJ that's great news.
-
update, I have just lost 10 kilos in the last week. Been in hospital, all was fluid.
now I feel fantastic, and look so much better too.
-
Gosh Robyn, I wonder why you retained that much fluid. That's scary. Great that you are feeling better. X
-
Have the doctors found why you retained so much fluid Robyn?
-
virus that caused heart failure. :)
ll fluid gone now.
lost 10 kilos.
i want to loose 10 kilos of fat now..
-
How awful, is there any residual damage?
I hope you feel better soon.
Take it slowly..
-
That's awful, Robyn! So glad that it's all gone. To lose fat, you have to reduce starchy and processed carbs and eat saturated fats like coconut oil. I've put on a kilo and stayed at that weight. My DH and my friends have all said I look so much better now. I was looking scrawny when I was on Herbalife.
I'm not keen on the ingredients in the shake powder and feel the products are too expensive. There's lots of money being made by Herbalife 'coaches' who have very little knowledge of nutrition. I'm glad I tried it as it helped me learn the best way to lose weight and maintain it for life and it's certainly not Herbalife (unless you plan to stay on it for life!).
-
well I have lost 12 kilos now, and feel fantastic. heaps of energy now. :D
I am stable, and back to what I was before kids, (11 years ago) looking so much better..
Maybe just loose 3-4 kilos more would be good. Can't do any exercise yet..
-
Well done Robyn.
MJ you are so right.
-
Robyn, i am so pleased you are feeling well and to have lost all that fluid. Thank goodness you got help when you did.
-
That's good news, Robyn. :)
-
Cyndi from Changing Habits posted a link to this article about Herbalife....which I'm about to read and thought it might be good to share here too:

Robyn, you must be feeling amazing! 😊. What a great achievement
-
Awesome Robyn. You must feel great. Congratulations.
-
I feel fantastic, so much more energy, and sleeping well.
clothes are too big, can't wait for summer stuff, and I can go shopping. :)
-
Losing weight is a great excuse for going clothes shopping Robyn, how many dress sizes have you dropped?
-
Hi Judy, I Would say 2 sizes. My shorts 1 size smaller are too big, so 2 sizes.
I still don't feel the cold, or have a jumper...
but, i love summer stuff, and can't wait to go shopping. :)
-
Well done Robyn that's wonderful, I love clothes shopping as well, probably a little too much :-[
-
That's a nice weight loss Robyn, have fun shopping.
