Name of Recipe: Stir fry cabbage from Easy Cooking, Healthy eating from Malaysia
Number of People: 2
Ingredients:
300g cabbage sliced 1cm thick
50 g carrot - cut into batons
10g garlic
10g oil (I used olive oil)
3 spring onions sliced (optional)
S & P to taste
Preparation:
Place garlic into TM bowl, chop 5 sec/speed 5.
Add oil and saute 2 mins/varoma temperature/speed 1.
Add cabbage, carrot and spring onions if using, fry 10 - 15 mins/varoma temperature/reverse/speed 1.
Add S & P to taste.
Tips/Hints:
In the original recipe the cabbage & carrot were only cooked for 4 minutes but I ended up cooking them for 15 minutes and it was delicious - just how I like my fried cabbage. I'd suggest you check it at 4 mins and see what you think then continue cooking until it is to your taste. I took the MC off for the last 5 minutes.

That stir fry cabbage looks lovely. I will definately give it a try.
Thanks ;D
-
That looks really good JD :D Do you think it would go well with pork?
-
Yes Pork and cabbage are a great team Amy.
-
JD if I wanted to add diced bacon, would I sauté with garlic or add with cabbage & carrot?
Thanks
-
Either saute it with the garlic or do it separately in a pan and add at the end DG.
-
Thanks JD - this was a lovely addition to our roast last week. We like our veggies quite firm (not too soggy) and we four minutes was definitely not enough time :) We cooked ours for about 10 mins. :)
-
Glad you enjoyed it Tam, I think the addition of the carrot adds some sweetness to it and it sure beats steamed or boiled cabbage ;)
-
We had this tonight as a side dish with roast pork.
Neither of us really like cabbage, but we both enjoyed this.
I used JD's timings and not the lesser time in the book and it was cooked perfectly :)
-
Yes it's a good one Katie, glad you enjoyed it.
-
Made this tonight Judy and it was a hit. Will def be make again. :D

No photo Julie? :(
Not today Amy, I had a rare night off. ;D

I will certainly be trying this one. DH loves stir fried cabbage. I have always fried mine in a little bit of butter with some onion and bacon and a bit of black pepper.
-
Thank you for this recipe. Made it last night, it was really delicious. Will do the cabbage this way from now on. Might add curry paste next time for variety
-
Thanks Kay. don't you love a nice veggie recipe - this one fits the bill and so cheap to make too which is a bonus.
-
I missed this. I must try it as,it sounds nice.

Using this recipe as a base and wanting to clear out my crisper I made this and it was delicious.
Added 65g sliced celery with the garlic and used peanut oil/sauteed 3 mins/varoma/rev/sp 1 then added the carrot, spring onion, cabbage and sauteed 10 mins/varoma/rev/sp 1.
Added 5 small broccoli florets, 16 raw prawns, 1 tblspn black bean sauce (you could add more), 75g hot water mixed with 1/2 tsp chicken stock powder and sauteed 5 mins/varoma/rev/sp 1.
Added 1 tblspn cornflour mixed with 2 tblspns water and a splash of soy sauce to thicken. Cooked a further minute.
It made 2 serves and could be stretched further with the addition of noodles or rice.
You could use chicken instead of prawns.

That looks delicious Judy.
-
Thanks cookie, it was.
-
Looks good, Judy :)
-
Thanks BZB, not a patch on your Asian meals but I just love these simple ingredient stir fries.
-
Simple is good, Judy. Especially if the food is tasty :)
I've been steaming my veg since I started cooking rice regularly in the TM. Even easier than stir fries. Chop, steam and drizzle with soya sauce, white pepper and garlic oil. Done.
-
I must try that BZB, I bought lots of vegies today as I've decided to have more stir fries.
-
Made this last night to go with our whiting & it was lovely, very easy to make. I used JD times and made up the cabbage component with bok choy & cabbage.
-
What a coincidence Kerry, just came on to say I made this for my lunch today and saw your posting. I added a few glugs of black bean sauce today with some cubes of chicken from some croquette rolls (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=1365.0) I had in the freezer. Delicious. A nice big serving for 1 hungry person. This is just a great base for so many ideas.
-
That looks great Judy
-
Agree Judy it's a great base recipe.
