Oatmilk from Tebasile
« on: September 03, 2010, 11:10:45 am »

Oatmilk, unheated

3-4 Tbs fresh rolled oats ( my oats were soaked and dehydrated)
3-4 Tbs water (1)
250 g water (2)

Soak oats for 30 min with water (1) and blend with water (2)

You can add 1/2 Tsp Coconutoil, or 2-3 drops sunflower or almond oil and mix

Oatmilk, heated

50g fresh rolled oats or oat groats
750 g water (1)
2 dates (soaked 2-4 hours)
1 Tbs. cashew or almond butter
1 Tsp agave or rice syrup
300 g water (2)

Blend oats 10 sec/speed 10.
Add water (1) and heat 1-2 min /100 degree C /speed 1-2.
Add dates, blend 10 sec /speed 6 and 10 sec / speed 9
Add water (2), blend and strain
Add nut butter and sweetener if desired

I like the unheated version better  ;)

THANKS for posting this recipe - it's the only Thermomix one I can find.

Two questions:

1.   Is there a difference between 'fresh' rolled oats and the standard ones you buy at the grocery store?
2.   What are Oat Groats compared to rolled oats?
3.   Do you use fresh or dried dates?

Many thanks can't wait to try!    ;D
If you see someone without a smile - give them one of yours   :(  ;)  :)  ;D  :D

Hello 4getfulelephant :)

I haven't tried this recipe but I've been looking at Tebasile's blog and doing some research for you, and I think I can answer your questions...

1. As far as I can tell, the oats from the grocery store will be fine.
2. Oat groats are the hulled, whole grain. Rolled oats are simply oat groats that have been rolled into flakes and lightly toasted. You should be able to get oat groats from a health food shop.
3. Since the dates are soaked, I would say they are dried.

Hope this is helpful :)

Thanks so much Amy  :)

Is there any advantage in using Groats to rolled oats?  Are they healthier for whatever reason?

Cheers

No worries! :D

I just had a browse on a website about wholegrains and it doesn't appear that there is any health differences between groats and rolled oats. Rolled oats are just a bit more processed but I don't think they lose any nutrients from that. I think the only difference would be texture. Groats would probably be more coarse.

Once again... I'm hoping this helps you! ;)
