Chit Chat / Re: What are you cooking today?
« on: February 07, 2010, 07:35:07 am »
Today from 500g mince meat I made a minced beef quiche and a batch of Sloppy Joe (4 meals for the 2 of us), isi's Juicy muffins and Chookies iced coffee syrup (used the rest of my last batch giving drinks to the workers who did my garden last week, weren't they spoilt).  Have posted the quiche recipe and will do a review of the Sloppy Joe when we have it tomorrow night.

Oops, forgot to say I converted this from a recipe by AnnieT I found on Best Recipes. She says not to use a substitute for the Swiss cheese or whole egg mayonnaise as the taste will not be the same.

cookie - We had this for dinner tonight. I really liked it but DD and DH weren't over fussed. I think they are too used to different quiches. So in future it will only be a small one for me.  They can go without.  I felt so industrious, first I made the mayonnaise and then the pastry and lastly the quiche itself. A true TMX meal.
I had leftovers for lunch with salad, I loved it just a much when it was cold.  Next time I'll have mince in mine and they will get ham or something similar. That will keep them happy.

Today I managed to get my rhubarb plants and also picked up patio tomato bushes and zucchini plants.  My dear old dad would have been thrilled to finally see his DD planting vegies instead of flowers.  Don't think I will ever reach his standard though and mine is on a much smaller scale.

Hi monipod, welcome to the forum.  I am a follow-the-recipe type cook so I certainly would call myself just an ordinary cook who loves to have something different every day - certainly not a meat and 3 vegie type cook. The only time I go back and do my favourites is if I am in a hurry and haven't got time to go through the thousands of recipes I have or if I am having visitors I will not make them an untried dish. DH never knows what is going to be served up to him from one day to the next and therefore has to ask ' what is this one'.   I love nothing more than finding recipes and converting them for the TMX - don't have too many failures in this regard. 30 minute meals are certainly possible if you are organised. Menu plans are a great idea, especially for working mums. Don't think of the price tag, think of what a wonderful help in the kitchen the TMX will be. You can't put a price on love.

Hi Noelene, glad to hear you love your machine so much you have decided to become a demonstrator. After the experience you have up your sleeve already, I'm sure you will make a great demonstrator.  Good luck with your new career - go sell and make a lot of households happy like we are.

Have to agree with this one too - rarely get to sleep before midnight or later, hardly watch any TV at all and have no trouble finding something to do. I am not up with the sparrows like you though Cookie1 - 8am is my preferred rising time. Boredom, what's that ???  I am amused when I see people sitting on their front verandah watching the cars go by and wonder if I will ever have time to do that  ???  Thermomixer, I knew a couple when I lived in Darwin (he was American, she Fijian) who always went to bed at the same time together but after 4 hours sleep, he would get up as he had had his quota (like andie) for the night.  I first noticed it because I had to get up for my then baby's 2am feed and could see him sitting at his kitchen table reading or writing - not much else one could do without waking the household at that time of the morning.

You will have to half empty it out like I have now done Ceejay - don't want that happening again.

Hi Dutch, welcome to the forum.  I think everyone on this forum would tell you to get it now, you don't know what you are missing out on.  It will make the extras that you don't have time for now in no time at all.

It looks so peaceful, where do you live Chelsea?

Cookie, if you make it to Adelaide we will have to organise a meeting.  We were going to do it last year, long before these events started becoming a regular thing in various parts of Australia but with one thing and another, your trip didn't happen.

Questions? Technical Issues? The Survival Guide / Re: Mince Muddles

I have made spag bol and lasagne using bought mince (I only use the top grade low-fat variety so whether that makes a difference or not I don't know) and to be honest, haven't noticed your problem.  Don't do either very often but will take note next time and get back to you (may be a while though so don't hold your breath). DD's spag bol is chunky though because 4 yr old GD referred to it once as spaghetti and meatballs because of the little chunky bits in it.
Sorry, I forgot to get back to you on this one.  Asked DD about it and she actually cooks it on the stove top, hence the chunks.   I personally like it with a fine texture though.
