Maddy, I think you just proved that your 'friend' is far too demanding for someone who just wanted a cake and next time, (if there is one) I reckon you should recommend  she goes to a baker. Also, I would also make mine look more homemade (you could say rustic!) and do my own interpretation of what she wants anyway! Clearly you have such a lot of work ahead of you so all the best of luck!!!

DizzyGirl- I have the 6 L cuisinart one and absolutely love it. Good size for our family of four with intermittent teenage drop-ins but probably not big enough if you have a very large family. I always have enough left over to freeze for another meal. I think I bought mine from Everten Online for $159 three years ago so if you've seen it for $150 then that's a great price. Having come fom a background of using stovetop and electric pressure cookers, at the moment I only use my electric one and can't fault it.

I agree- the best thing with any electric pressure cooker is you dont have to be around to wait for it to come to pressure- you set either high or low pressure and when it comes to pressure the electronic timer kicks in and when it's done it reverts to keep warm mode- so basically- set and forget.
Also, as the TM makes such great rice I have done away with my rice cooker and the pressure cooker does a great job of sauteeing or browning meat before you chuck everything together that I dont often use the stove for browning first either.

I have the Cuisinart 6 litre electric pressure cooker- absolutely love it! Have not been near a slow cooker in many years and gave mine away. That's why I haven't even considered a multicooker as a slow cooker doesn't appeal to me- either I use my oven and 'slow' cook or use the pressure cooker and make the same dishes as I was doing in a slow cooker but obviously in a fraction of the time. The two main appliances I use are the TM of course and the pressure cooker.

Has anyone also looked at www.ozfarmer.com. They have a fantastic variety of preserving jars and accessories and their prices look pretty good.

Keiramax- you're so lucky. My mum had a Fowlers set up as well as all of the jars etc but she ended up passing it on to a relative. I wish she'd kept it all- she had all of the different jar sizes and lids. I love making batches of things and preserving them. I am still going through jams and jellies that I made last year.  It is so therapeutic to know what is going in to them as well as knowing that you made them yourself.

I always use gumption on my oven door but the miracle spray works really well on the bathroom sinks and toilets.

The small jars I bought for 50 cents and the 1 litre large ones were $2 each so even though it is a $2 shop it basically means a bargain store
I will try the online ones too. Thanks.

Chit Chat / Preserving jars

I am so excited that our local "$2" shop is now selling really nice (and very cheap) preserving jars. For our personal use I just reuse any glass jars I have but the ones on sale are great to use for gifts etc. Have stocked up on quite a few in case they all get sold.  Guess I'll be cranking out all those jams and preserves again when more fruit comes into season!

Just informing everyone that the word "bogan" has  been recognized officially in the Oxford English Dictionary.

Felt it in two waves- all up lasted 30-40 seconds and sounded like a freight train was about to come through the walls just like the last 'big' one. Apparently last night's quake was the strongest we've had in Victoria for over a hundred years.  As usual, my DH is away for work but at least my kids were asleep in bed and none the wiser. My cup of tea which I was drinking at the time spilled though.
