Tips and Tricks / Re: Clever way to separate eggwhite from yolk
« on: March 15, 2013, 07:57:03 pm »
faffa - I guess we're both clever chick's then! ;-)

What is it they say about good ideas? Something like, "for every good idea you have, there are hundreds around the world who've had the exact same idea".

JMC - great to hear this handy hint is getting shared - I think it's ability to separate eggs is just another surprise bonus that makes the TM31 design simply awesome!

I am just continually amazed at the moment.  The best thing I ever spend hard earned cash on!

Jams and Chutneys / Re: Gentleman's Relish
« on: March 15, 2013, 07:55:28 pm »
I've just found this and as my lovely dad is very fond of Gentleman's Relish, I will make some for him.  Just a question though, please - does it freeze?

Chit Chat / What do you call him/her/it?
« on: March 15, 2013, 07:46:17 pm »
I'm just under three weeks into being a Thermomix owner and already I don't know how I ever managed without her (yes, definitely a 'her').
I've named her Thermione (being a big Harry Potter fan) and I wondered what names others have given to their Thermomixes (or should that be 'Thermomixi'?)

Tips and Tricks / Re: SPATULAS IN THE UK
« on: March 15, 2013, 07:43:00 pm »
I have a very flexible spatula that I got free with a magazine at some point.  While I wouldn't use it while the blades are running, it's the best thing for scraping out every last bit of whatever from the bowl and blades.  Much better than the spatula I bought with the machine itself.
Wouldn't be without it!

I haven't had it very long (just over a fortnight) but what I've tried I like very much.

Many thanks.

I saw this and headed straight into the kitchen to make it.  While it was doing I carried on reading so didn't see the warning message until it was done.  No problems, it's fine, but I wonder if the mods might consider posting some sort of warning that would show at the start of the thread?
Just a thought.

Introduce Yourself / Re: Introducing me!

Hi!
I'm quite a newbie myself and it is really lovely in here.  So much information, so many ideas and there's always someone who can advise or recommend.  It's brilliant.

You will love your Thermomix!

 :)
Two different perspectives.  I guess it just depends on what you want.  I might have a go with reduced salt to start with and see how hard that freezes.
Many thanks for the speedy advice.

Thank you very much for this recipe.  I've just made the vegetable stock paste for the first time and it's great.  I will have a go at this too.
Would you say it's better to add the salt and then not need to add any to the recipe, or make the frozen variety and add more salt?

Yeah, I didn't realise I was sitting on an unknown trick until I hosted a party a month ago & the Demonstrator was cracking eggs the way I used to BT (before Thermomix). When I asked her why she didn't use the MC/lid, she gave me a blank look.
So I showed her & she got excited.
Pretty much, if there's a way to streamline something, I'll find it. lol.
I'm lazy when it comes to washing dishes... can be a good motivator for efficiency.  ;)

The word must have spread quickly because when I had my demo just over 3 weeks ago it was one of the tricks mentioned.  Brilliant idea!

Coconut rice!  That sounds gorgeous!  Thanks again.  Everyone is so helpful here.   :) :) :)

Thanks from me too - I just came in to ask a few questions and this was one of them.  It's so helpful in here.

Thanks very much for that.  I need milk so must stir it back together again.  Great!

Suppose I didn't - what could I do with the watery bit, please?  It seems a shame to throw it away.  The only thing that occurs to me is that I could freeze it on a tray, cut it into cubes and use it instead of ice cubes for sorbet.  It might make a nice mango and coconut sorbet.  What do you think?

Questions? Technical Issues? The Survival Guide / Coconut milk/cream.

I've had a go at this as described on p19 of Fast and Easy Indian Cooking.  It's all gone well except that the results have separated into a thick layer at the top and what looks like coconut water underneath.  Is this right?  Do I need to mix the two back together again?
If someone can advise I'd be very grateful.  Thanks
J
