Chit Chat / Re: Varoma, how often do you use it & what do you make?
« on: January 11, 2014, 08:58:23 am »
Used it today to steam cauliflower before pureeing in the bowl - will add to mac n cheese tomorrow. Baf's chicken is a regular here also.
Agree about full steam ahead - luckily I got it for free, never used it!

Just as an aside, did you know the chef at the Antarctic base uses a TMX? There was an article in The Age a few weeks ago about Xmas dinner at Mawson.
It always surprises me how vicious people can be over a kitchen appliance. Get over it people, and let us get on with our cooking!

Just showed Annika your pics Gert and her comment was OMG that is sooooo cool! She loves snakes....
Just pottering around today, washing, grocery shopping, a bit of cooking. Miss 10 at a sleepover party so Miss 8 & I went out for dinner.
I was thinking as I was reading all the terrible salesman stories, "haven't these people seen Pretty Woman?", but maddy beat me to it. ☺️ Funny when I was looking for a car with 2 kids in tow I was never asked where hubby was, guess they had me pegged as single from the get-go!

It is lovely CC, I made this one and froze it to take over to Melbourne to vegetarian DD when I was last there.
Let me guess Judy, the weather in Melbourne was suitably foul? :)

Introduce Yourself / Re: Reluctant cook

You sound just like me Vanny, dreaded the daily chore of cooking. Have had my TMX for 2 years now and never looked back. Never used to bake, now I only eat home made bread and the kids always have home made goodies in their lunch boxes, and just this week I bought an icecream machine! (Beware the shopping thread ;)). I only wish I was home more often so I could cook more!

I've read The Elegance cookie. Not the most exciting book, sort of plods along like a hedgehog possibly, but like a lot of foreign films and quite realistic.
Totally agree CP, spot on.
Just started The Luminaries, think it's going to take me a while!

Baked chicken drumsticks and veggies, clearing space in my freezer for ice cream! Used some fancy garlic @ lemon olive oil I got for Xmas on the chook, smells good.

Day off today, and kids back home from grandma's. Went to council to get parking permit as our street now has 2hr limit - fantastic, no more bl#%^y commuters taking up all the residents' parking spaces! Then did a bit of shopping, DD needed a present for a friend. Postie tried to deliver new ICM while we were out, bummer! Got my haircut after lunch, popped into PO and yay! parcel was there, now looking up ice cream recipes :). About to take kids & dog for a walk, lovely day here today.

My ice cream maker arrived today! Naturally the postie came in the 1.5 hour window when we were out this morning, so had to collect from the post office. Now I'm very frustrated that I have to wait 12 hours to use it! Working from home tomorrow, so will make a custard base today and stick it in the fridge to churn tomorrow, very excited! Have been umming and aahing about getting a machine for 2 years, ever since I got my TMX (and joined this forum - you're all to blame haha!)

Me and the kids have been playing with their new Rainbow Loom all afternoon - from Spotlight.  DS is obsessed and has made about 10 already.  ;D  Great holiday buy.

DD bought some bands with her Xmas money but the craft shop didn't have the loom in stock. Will have to try spotlight so she can make fancier stuff - thanks Jo!

No fussy kids here tonight, so I'm making myself a nice Thai green curry chicken.

Bought some clothes & a pair of shoes for myself today, and since I ordered an ice cream maker a couple of days ago I also bought one of those Tovolo containers. Looking at recipe books online right now, I have the Ciao Bella gelati book in my basket mmmmm love gelati! Thinking of getting The Perfect Scoop as well.
