Congratulations Jamberie. I'm very impressed with the macarons. I had lots of failures until I tried Mara's recipe. I'd love to see photos too please.

Thanks Cookie, after two failures without TMX,  I used Mara's recipe and I was very proud of myself indeed! I think I need to adjust the temperature for my oven as the first batch rose perfectly with the 'feet' and then just fell. I turned up the temp in the oven for the second batch and they were great...sorry no pics as they were all eaten! I made sure I had a super clean and dry bowl (drying once with a tea towel and then a final dry with some very absorbent paper towel worked a treat) which I'm sure helped too.

Chit Chat / Re: What is for Breakfast

This morning I experimented (again) with porridge, I like a really thick porridge that I then add milk to at the end...I really hated the EDC recipe as it was like soup and no matter how long I let it rest it didn't thicken up....so this morning I tried 1 cup rolled oats, 600mL water, 2tbsp LSA mix, 1 chopped apple, 2tbsp sultanas, mixed seeds and some brown sugar (8mins, 100oC, reverse, speed 2) . I've nearly got it to my liking but will use 300mL milk & 300mL water next time....

You did well Jamberie, bet your relies were impressed.  Macarons for a new TMX owner, great stuff! Are you going to post some reviews for us?

Will do Judy - it's the least I can do!

Recipe Requests / Re: Yoghurt making
« on: August 07, 2012, 12:14:07 am »
Hi there,

I too have been looking for yoghurt recipes. This is the one I've bookmarked to try...
http://www.superkitchenmachine.com/2009/3581/thermomix-yogurt-recipe.html

There's also one here on the forum Faffa's best yoghurt recipe that looks great too, I'm on my tablet computer and haven't worked out how to link back to the forum other than cutting and pasting the URL... http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=10188.0
 Hope this helps

Chit Chat / Re: what sort of can opener do you have
« on: August 06, 2012, 12:44:57 pm »
I just had to reply to this thread, as for one, I love my OXO Good Grips can opener! And two I haven't been able to help out with any other thermy questions/recipes etc as my TMX arrives tomorrow, so this reply helps me feel like I can start to repay all the hints I've received so far!!!

Back to the can opener....it was a little on the expensive side [fifty aus dollars] but it leaves the edges super smooth (great for pencil tins for school -I'm a teacher) and is easy to use. My mum is borrowing it at the moment as her arthritis has flared in her wrists, she has liked using mine so much she will buy her own.
Hope this helps

Chit Chat / Re: Roasting pans
« on: August 03, 2012, 02:35:26 am »
Another thumbs up for the Scanpan! I've had mine for a few years and it is still as good as new. I don't put it in the dishwasher or use high heat when it's on the stove....I learned from my Scanpan frypan which is not in the greatest condition from putting it in the dishwasher and using high heat almost all the time! I certainly would never pay full price for one though because you can nearly be guaranteed you'll be able to find them at 40-50% off at least twice a year!

Thank you to everyone for such a warm welcome!
Well, we had our demo last night and we took the plunge and bought a Thermomix   ;D
I'm already making lists of recipes from the forum and making a Thermomix friendly grocery list so I'm ready to go!
Happy days!

Wow! Thank you all very much for your support!
My demo is only a few hours away [and I'm super excited] but I think (thanks to all your advice), I will get the Thermomix and put the HMP on my wish list for when I win lotto (which could be a long time away from now as I only ever buy a ticket once in a blue moon!)
I'll let you know how it goes!
Jamberie :)

Thank you for your advice Mama Fergie, I am such a newbie I thought that the second blade set was only for people who already had the TMX machine itself......hopefully I'll be able to get the second bowl then!

I have my first demo tomorrow night ...I deliberately timed it so that I could choose between July/August incentives.....I'm thinking of taking the second thermosaver offer (July incentive)......What would you choose?

And then by the sounds of things, I might book a Varoma demo at the end of August to choose between the second bowl and......

Introduce Yourself / Hi from Cold Canberra!
« on: July 25, 2012, 11:35:21 am »
Hi everyone!
From cold Canberra! I love cooking all sorts of food with my husband and two year old daughter for our extended family and friends. My cooking heroine is most definately Nigella Lawson, but I have an eclectic repertoire of cookbooks!
I thought as my first post I'd say a very big thank you to so many Forum Thermomix members who have already helped me so much in my quest for a thermal cooker! I have spent many hours (maybe even days) reading hundreds of posts here on the forum helping me decide on purchasing a TMX, TMC, Bellini or the HMP.
I think I am 99% sure I will buy  TMX at my demo next week, I love the worldwide support network of users and that the TMX has stood the test of time, I also like the idea of Varoma cooking (can't wait to cook Nigella's Meatballs with pasta). My 1% of doubt comes from a recent post from another newbie a day or so ago who said they have a HMP (I'm sorry, I'm still learning about the forum and can't link the post on my ipad) and some members said they have HMP envy!
I guess I'll make my decision next week when I taste the proof in the custard!
Thank you so much for your help so far! Either way, I'll be visiting regularly and hope to repay with some converted Nigella recipes to share!
Happy days
Jamberie
