Chicken in Yoghurt
From the Indian book
Tweaking
I only used 1 chilli, again I think I could have easily used the 2. I left out the fresh coriander as I don't like it at all. I only used 350g yoghurt as I felt that was enough. I used chicken breast cut into 2-3cm pieces.
We really liked this. I served it with rice and Naan bread. We still had a lot of 'gravy' left so I quickly microwaved some pappadums and we used them to slurp the 'gravy'.
Score 4/5

Taps feet impatiently....I want my Indian cookbook!
-
I made this a few weeks ago and froze the left-overs. We had these for dinner last night and they were still very tasty.
One very pleasant surprise was how much better the TMX rice was after freezing than rice I had previously frozen. Not sure why this is but it encourages me to freeze TMX rice more often.
-
Katya, did you use absorption methods to cook the rice previously or boil it?
Thanks cookie1 for the review too.
-
Thermomixer - I think I used absorption method. Put c.500 ml water in TMX and put rice in the basket. I think of it as steaming but maybe that's what you call absorption. With my rice cooker, all the water was absorbed but with the TMX the basket sits above the water and so you don't have to be exact in the amount of water you use.
-
Strange that it is so much better for freezing - may not be overcooked?
-
This recipe is really good. My husband loved it :)
-
My DH loved this too - I made it the night before last with the naan bread from the same site. I also made a cucumber raita with it. The curry was delicious but it did have lots of gravy - next time I will probably use less yoghurt. I'll post the raita recipe as well.
-
Yes - we loved the flavour but there was a lot of sauce. I think the liquid amounts could easily be reduced. :)
-
Oh nooooo, we love too much sauce to mop up ;D
-
Made this a few days ago. Hubby, aunt and 3 year old LOVED it. There was a lot of sauce, and we had the sauce with shredded BBQ chicken and rice the next night...an instant meal! Next time, I'll just add more chicken and it'll last 2 meals. ;)
-
i made this last week and it was a big hit in our house. my dh doesnt normally like anything with yoghurt in it but he really liked this and the best thing for me is it is so quick to make.
-
Made double the recipe quantity yesterday, i.e. cooked the sauce for 15 minutes in the TMX and then poured it over two kilos of diced chicken breast and cooked 45 minutes at 120C in the oven. Meat was beautifully tender. 1 1/2 the quantity of sauce would have sufficed in hindsight.
6 men ate all of this minus one portion, so it was definitely enjoyed :o
-
good to hear Viv - wonder how it would go in the Varoma like baf's dish?
-
We had this tonight. We didn't have any turmeric or fresh coriander but it was still fantastic. Enough for another meal! I also made the Naan with Besan flour from the Indian book. This wasn't quite the same success though. They tasted nice but not quite like Naan from an Indian restaurant. Will try them again though.

-
Thanks very much - i might give it a go on the weekend!
-
hubby loved this one and is very fussy and a curry fanatic , nice to score a hit :)
-
just cooked this for dinner tonight. It is sooooooooooooo watery. I think 250g yoghurt would be more than enough. I thought that before I started but was using 800g of chicken so thought I might need the extra liquid. I had to tip half the liquid out. It was also pretty bland (again reducing the yoghurt might not dilute the flavours so much) I cooked it to the letter apart from reducing the chillis to 1 instead of 2 as 11year old son hates chilli.
Indian food is a big part of my life so I was looking forward to this :( Hopefully by tonight the flavours may have developed a bit more.
I cant wait to convert my own recipes and try them in the beast.

Made last night

....but we didn't like it :(
the coriander and yoghurt were too strong in flavour for our taste.
Won't make again.
-
I leave the coriander out Maddy (don't like it) and have reduced the yoghurt to about 350g.
I'm sure you have plenty of other things you can make instead of this. ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
we didnt like it either and I love yoghurt and coriander. I made it in the morning and hoped by dinner the flavours would have come out more.
Youngest son liked it ok but he has no taste buds :D
I have a heap of indian recipes (bit of an Indian fanatic) cant wait to convert them. After the chicken in yoghurt I was starting to think that maybe the TM wasnt suitable for me but thank god I made the Korma which was wonderful. ;D
-
Just shows the variation, for me the Korma is meh and this is spot on :)
Mind we leave the Chillis out.
-
Tarasis which Korma did you make?
-
The one that is in the Indian cookbook, using Chicken.
-
I havent tried that one yet. I did post the one that I make which I converted for the TM - have a look at it if you get a chance :)

This is going on the "Cook Me Regularly" list. A hit with the "i dont eat spicy food" 15 year old daughter and the "that B****y Machine is so noisy" thermomix hater husband, They were both impressed, as was I. I even made Nann bread from the Indian Cookbook, and that worked too. Next time I will divide the dough into about 10 pieces instead of the recommended 6, as they were huge and very thick by the time they cooked.
The Chicken in Yoghurt did have lots of sauce and I will try reducing the yoghurt a little next time, but lots of sauce, makes good use of the Nann Bread.
Loved It!

Don't worry Dane, my DH likes to be as far away as possible when I am using the TMX - I'd never be able to use it if we had an open plan kitchen/dining/lounge room.
Thanks for your review, why not pop over to the Home page and go into the Introduce Yourself section so that we can all officially welcome you to the forum.

I don't use any chilly, using ALDI's frozen coriander and forvegetarian version using diced potato and peas (around 1kh in total). Cooked 12 min in TMX then in slow cooker, 3 hours in high. Turn out beautiful and perfect to feed the crowd. I served it with jeera rice from Indian cook book. Sorry no picture, all gone in no time.
-
We love this recipe!!!!!
The idea of using the aldi frozen herbs is a brilliant one. And we shall try it with the veges too. Thanks for that!!
I will add any leftover rice to any leftover sauce and use that just by itself as a leftovers lunch!!
:-)
-
That's the best bit :D
-
I love this recipe.
Usually add some diced par-boiled sweet potato in with it to give some additional bulk and flavour. Tried raw sweet potato (1cm dice) but it didn't cook properly so I had to cook the whole lot for longer... found it frustrating.
As the recipe says, you can double the chicken, which I usually do as the sauce is more than sufficient.
Mmmm!
