This is another recipe from the TM21. I think there is a recipe with the same name in the MOTM cookbook, and it could be similar but I'm not sure.
We used to have this almost every week because we loved it so much, but after I found the forum, there were too many new recipes to try!
I have changed the method slightly to how I found it to work best.
Dutch Curry and Rice Soup
Ingredients:
1 small onion
20g olive oil
100g rindless bacon
1000ml beef stock
100g baby peas
100g Arborio rice
1 tsp curry powder, or to taste (I only ever used 1/2 tsp)
S&P
Method:
1. Chop onion and bacon for 3 seconds/speed 5.
2. Add oil and curry powder and saute for 3 minutes/100 degrees/speed 4 (make sure the ingredients are finely processed).
3. Insert butterfly and add remaining ingredients. Cook for 17 minutes/100 degrees/speed 1, or until rice is cooked to your liking.
I will try to make it soon so I can post a photo :)
Just wanted to post that I made this again tonight, I added 2 carrots and 1/2 a large zucchini with the onion and bacon, reduced the stock to 850ml and it was really yummy. The carrot added a little hint of sweetness. I'm going to make it like this from now on Cheesy

JD, Hally & McMich all enjoyed this soup. The rice will take up the liquid once cooled so you will need to add more beef stock when reheating.

The recipe in MOTM has additional ingredients of ginger, garlic, chilli, coriander, cumin, turmeric, fish sauce and baby peas - I think you could say it was a little different Amy ;D
-
Well there you go, thanks Judy ;D Seems like this one might be a bit boring in comparison then! :-))
-
Try it and see Amy, as long as a soup is tasty I don't think it has to be full of spicy ingredients.
-
Never made either, but sounds good :)
On my to do list :)
-
I hope you enjoy Hally :)
I remembered late last night that I never put salt in this soup because I found the salt from the bacon to be enough. Just thought I'd mention that ;)
-
Just wanted to post that I made this a couple of nights ago and it was just as delicious as I remember :D
I tried to take a photo but it looked very boring because all the rice and peas kept sinking to the bottom of the soup :P
I only sauteed on reverse + speed 1 because I wanted little chunks of bacon and onion in there ;D
-
Thanks for posting Amy, this looks great. I'll have to try it soon :) Thank you!
-
This looks lovely Amy, I will make it soon.
-
Has anyone made the MOTM version? I have looked at it often but can't imagine what it would be like. Seems like an odd combination, but then I haven't eaten much Dutch food. If indeed it is Dutch?
-
Thanks Jam and Katie :D I hope you both enjoy it as much as I do ;D
Hopefulcook, I don't know anything about Dutch food, but I use Indian curry powder so technically mine isn't Dutch either ;) I don't have MOTM and I don't particularly want it so I'm more than happy to stick with this recipe :)

Nothing worse than having no peas :-))
-
I made this for my tea tonight, thanks Amy it was lovely.
-
Glad you enjoyed it Judy :)
-
Made this last night and it was lovely.
-
Just put some in a container for dhs lunch, it looks more like slushy risotto ths morning, the rice has absrbed a lot of the liquid.
:)
-
That's what mine looks like too Hally - I've added more beef stock to it this morning.
-
Oops, sorry ladies, I should have warned you about that :-[
It looks great Mich, I'm glad you like it :)
-
I knew that would happen so I added more stock before putting the leftovers in the fridge last night. Just right this morning to drop off to Mum.

Smarty pants ;D ;D
What about long grain rice?
-
I had to learn something in 66 years LOL.
-
;D ;D ;D
Hally, I've never tried it with long grain rice. It might be a worthwhile experiment though :)
-
I'm sure that would be ok Hally. I've put rice and risoni in soups and casseroles before and they haven't turned out as thick as our soups. Alternative only put 50gms of arborio rice in.
-
Yum, risoni, that's a great idea Mich! Thank you :-*
-
I put 2 tsp of curry powder in my soup and warned DH it had a bite to it. He loved it and said he didn't notice the heat.
You've posted a lovely soup Amy - thankyou xx
-
I put 1 tsp & you couldnt tell. I use risoni a lot in soups :)
-
Mich, my pleasure :-*
You ladies have inspired me to use risoni more. I think I've only used it 2-3 times in the past :-))
-
I made this again for my lunch today, I added 2 carrots and 2 broccoli stalks this time. Could hardly taste them ;) I also used less rice so it wasn't as thick. Love this soup :)
