Chit Chat / What are you cooking today?

Sarah what recipe did you use for your pull apart. ?   Certainly looks great.

Just the one from the Basic cookbook/chip for the TM5, it's also on the recipe community.

Last night took out what I thought was chicken breast but was stewed peaches.
Not quite what you expected :)

It's the Chicken Veloute meal, but the salmon variation from the basic cookbook, if I'm right.

Yesterday I bought a burger from McDonald's, and it made me sick. Not the first time, I don't know why I ever bother. Every so often I do it again and regret it.

But it's a lot of money when you think you could make a batch for less!

We eat a lot of jam, I love making it now. I haven't perfected my checking for setting, but it's lovely to have homemade jam always available.

Yes, according to the news, it may have been an accident, not a suicide. Very sad.

I took leftover herb and garlic pull apart and leftover hot cross buns with us on our outing to the zoo today. This was our lunch.

My eldest daughter and I went to the zoo today for a cub scout gathering, and we were supposed to be seeing the King of Sweden, but as usual the event was a bit of a debacle and I don't know if he was there or not. There was a lot of waiting around to meet up - due to a fatal train accident which affected lots of people travelling into the event. Then there was a quick trip to a few animals to see some stuff, then our leader got a message that we had to head to the picnic area. Which was outside the zoo and around a 1 kilometre walk away. The poor little kids were exhausted before we even got there.

Once we arrived, we didn't know what we were supposed to do, and hung around for nearly an hour before they took a group photograph. And that was it. We were then sent off to do some activities, but they could only be done in groups of twenty, and we had only four cubs with our group, so we had to join another one. The actual activities seemed to be a little strange, and when we were finished, we were glad to be heading home because it had been a long day of doing nothing much but lots of walking around.

The funny thing is that many people decided to try to take public transport in as the event itself was scheduled for 10-4, so 6 hours. The parking at the zoo is for 5 hours. Because people didn't want to stress about being fined or having to leave and move their car, they descended upon the trains and trams instead. Then this accident happened and it caused a lot of groups to arrive very late. We were affected but still managed to get there almost on time, and waited around for an hour to meet the rest of our group.

We had about a third of the pull apart yesterday, and it was wonderful. I purposely kept some for today, in a bread bag. It has kept it quite nice and soft, but it's certainly not quite as magnficent as it was fresh.

I also made some more chicken stock paste this evening as I'd run out. I bought some chicken the other night and kept the leftovers for it, but was too busy to make the stock last night so made sure I did it today before the opportunity was lost.

I've made the hot cross buns from the chip and frozen them - I take one out each morning to put in my daughter's lunch box. I also reheat them in our sandwich press. No problems with the glaze when I do that.

I did go to Dick Smith today and bought my husband a FitBit Zip. I have a Surge, and I also have a Flex that my daughter sometimes uses. I'm competitive and in a group with some people from an online course I'm doing through UTAS. I'm studying about Health and Nutrition and Technology and Fitness. My husband and I have discussed this many times, and I got him one today and hope to encourage him to start walking more - to try to reach 10,000 steps. Right now, I'd suspect he'd barely make 5,000 most days. He moans about it but doesn't do anything to change it, so I thought I'd see how this goes. He doesn't have to make any effort, just clip it on.

Anyway, they had a 20% off sale, so I got it for about $68. Their prices were inflated already, so it's not a huge saving, but I'm happy enough.
