BH&G Lemon, Ginger & Honey Drink for Colds.
« on: May 29, 2009, 03:11:06 pm »
This recipe came of Better Homes and Gardens tonight for relieving cold symptoms.  Haven't actually tried it in the TMX yet, but this is how I think I'd do it.  If you make it would love your feedback/hints/tips/suggestions:

Combine the following ingredients into TM bowl:
500 mls boiling water,
1 lemon sliced,
12 slices fresh ginger,
4 tablespoons honey, 5 cardomon pods

Set Timer for 20 minutes and cook at 100C on Reverse  ^^.
(Their version was simmering on the stove for 20 mins)
Strain using baset, and pour into cup.  Sip rugged up on the couch with a cosy blanket.
Get well soon!  ;) :)

I think I'll add the whisky to tonight's brew to balance out the honey taste. It seemed to loosen the conjestion on my chest and I coughed for ages until I thought of another remedy I had read about and that was to rub the soles of your feet with Vicks - it worked (not immediately) and I then slept cosily until around 7am.  Think I will spend the day in bed with the paper and my computer today - plenty of leftovers in the fridge. It is such a waste of time being sick  :( :( :(

Well hope everyone who is sick is feeling better and no one else will need this.

JD made this one first and we adapted to the TMX  ;)

Let me know how the whisky goes! :D :D

I am drinking the remainder of last night's brew as we speak but this time with a few glugs of whisky in it.  Pretty potent stuff which is bound to kill something - either me or the bug I've got. :P :P :P Gets better with each sip though and certainly loosens things up.  Will do the feet thing again before settling down for the night as that Vicks trick certainly stopped the coughing. I love old remedies that actually work.

The vicks on the feet trick is great. I do it to Grace anytime she has a cold and it just helps her (and me!!) have a good nights sleep.

I think one glug is acceptable -  a few and we may need to notify authorities  ;) ;) ;) ;D

Slowly getting over the flu but needed some more ingredients for another batch of this drink.  Mum did the shopping for me and DH went around to her place on his gopher to bring the items home.  Made in in the TMX ILB and it worked perfectly, put 1T honey less in it this time as that was a bit overpowering in the first lot - will add a little whiskey to tonights cup to ensure I sleep well again.  Had to cancel babysitting arrangements for tomorrow with DD for the first time in 4 years - don't want new baby to catch it and 1 more day taking it reasonably easy will just about do me I would think.

Hope that and a good nights sleep fixes that for you JD! And I'm sure DD would prefer you to cancel rather thank passing the cold onto kids and baby. Put your feet up while you can  ;)
