Recipe Requests / Re: Help pls with UK 'birds eye' type custard....

The custard for this Vanilla slice recipe is very, very thick and doesn't use the butterfly either.

Not sure what recipe you used, however I am currently making a bolagnaise sauce and I cook all the sauce ingredients for 10 mins first  (onions on their own first though as normal), then I break the mince up into the sauce, pushing it down into the sauce and it never gets stuck around the blades. Just make sure it's moving at the top through the hole.. I then cook with the mince added for about 20 -25 mins at 100 degrees.  I never used to like mince cooked in the TMX as I found it came out too fine, but now I do it this way we love it !

Mel, I made this and no didn't cook it. I don't think it needs to be cooked because there aren't any eggs. The alcohol keeps it at a softer consistency in the freezer so it's easy to scoop.

Staclee, i normally spray the tray with a little oil, do you think it makes a difference using the liners?

Decided after spending all the money on the ice cream maker that I really should buy an ice cream book so decided on "The Perfect Scoop" by David Lebovitz.

http://www.bookdepository.com/Perfect-Scoop-David-Lebovitz/9781580082198

That is the best book for ice cream recipes.  David is a wizard when it comes to imagining new recipes and then making them work.
I've been following his blog  HERE since he started it.  I recommend you read it when you have already had a meal, otherwise, you will find yourself in the kitchen at midnight, trying one of his delicious-sounding recipes.

andiesenji  I have been looking at that blog and I have got this ice cream churning now. The mixture tastes yum ! Thank you.

I've just been having a look at The Perfect Scoop on Amazon.  If you click on the picture of the book, in the link below you can get a mini preview of the book (some recipes are there too so you can start before you get the book).  Looks a great book ! Am deciding whether I NEED it or not lol.

Gert,
That reminds me we have to have our termite barrier inspection done ! Did they write into your warranty that you have to have inspections done every year or your void your warranty? We are a bit slack there but the guy that does it also does our normal pest sprays and we only find we need to get it done about every 18 months. So we get the barrier checked then.

We are looking at replacing our paved drive way with some form of decorative concrete and we're going to have to have that section of barrier replaced as well I think. It will be interesting what they charge for that !!

I'm having great fun experimenting Chookie ! So what flavours did you have in your freezer ? I'm looking for another one to make for the kids. They love Tenina's I Scream Chocolate Ice Cream. But kids being kids .......... they've asked for rainbow ice cream..... yep they would wouldn't they ! DH9 watched this you tube video, on making rainbow ice cream with jelly crystals.

Quite clever, but don't think I'm keen lol. So looking for other ideas.

Wonder, it will be interesting if you try it. My 5yo ds loves licorice but he's disappointed he can't have this ice cream. Next time I make this I will probably chop the licorice in the thermomix. I think my pieces although I thought were small, the licorice goes really hard in the freezer.

Cuilidh,
My Mum was telling me about this one anyhow ....... we did and internet search, found ex demo ones on ebay for $89 (at the time she was going to buy one for nearly $300) and she bought one on ebay. We asked them what the difference was and they use them for a short while, test them package them up and give a warranty. It is the same seller so not a copy.

Mum ordered hers and it arrived and looked brand new ! She's very happy with the saving !

Thank you Chookie .......... I think I might just have to experiment before Christmas ......... what a shame that we'll have to sample all these different ice creams. The rum and raisin sounds good too. mmmmmmm

That's a good idea Debbie. You might also find that they freeze more quickly or that you can freeze more in between freezes if that makes sense. With the three pop maker, you can make up to 9 pops before having to put it back in the freezer (so with each single you could make 3 -or maybe more?- pops before putting it in the freezer). I've not had much success with multiple pops (because I usually choose milk based ones), but apparently water/juice ones work well with multiple uses.

I hadn't thought of the freezing factor Jamberie, I thought it might be easier to find room in the freezer for little ones and also the kids can each do their own.  Good point though ! I hope they like them. Do you find you use them a lot ? Do you have the chocolate station ? Not sure whether we should have ordered the storage case too ??

I'm sooooo stuck to what to get the kids for Christmas .......... they have too many toys and we're more trying to downsize them than anything ........ and they have well and truly enough of the electronic stuff !! Maybe a jetski lol I'm trying to convince my DH but he doesn't seem to take me on lol.

mrsb .......... go on buy one for yourself ! I'm sure you'll still have fun !

My girlfriend and I have bought Zoku pops for each others kids for Xmas. We bought the single ones because it's a better deal than buying a triple. You get one tool for each and more sticks. We also ordered the chocolate stations. Should keep the kids busy over the holidays.

Chookie, this recipe most definitely has the tick of yum from my DH and me.  Absolutely lovely and such a nice consistency. I made it with Black Sambuca. Do you think you could substitute with Baileys, Kahlua etc ? These flavours would be great for xmas day !

Thank you for the recipe.
