A Little Taste of India - Butter Chicken
« on: May 19, 2015, 11:16:00 am »
The butter chicken is a real favourite in our house. Lots of sauce leftover which I freeze for another time. Well worth the effort to make.

Really lovely mild dish. I used 1kg chicken breast that I marinated for 2hrs. Subbed white wine vinegar for Apple cider vinegar. Only added 1/4 teaspoon of chilli for the kids.

We love this dish. With the massive amount of sauce it makes, I had success using 1.4kg chicken beast and doubling the marinade. I cooked the extra marinated chicken in a pan and added it to the dish at the end. An absolute potluck winner.

We love this recipe too. I make a full batch and use half the sauce and 500g chicken (cooked in frypan) to feed the four of us, then freeze remaining sauce for a quick meal next time. Vegetable biryani is yummy too.

Hi all, I've been away from the forum for a while and just getting back into more cooking and checking out this forum for recipe ideas.  Could I please ask if this book is a new Indian cookbook from Thermomix?  I ate butter chicken for the first time,  when I visited Adelaide for a work conference last year, cooked the authentic way, and fell in love with the flavour of the curry dish.  I would love to replicate it at home. Thanks in advance!

Hi wenv, nice to see you again.  We love our 'old' members popping back in.

No, this is not an official TMX book, it's one of several books for the Thermomix from a lass called skinnymixers and you can buy them here http://skinnymixers.myshopify.com

I know you shouldn't compare recipes, but I really want to make Butter chicken! For the people who have made both, which recipe should I begin with...Quirky Cooking butter chicken or Skinnymixers one?

I bought the Little Taste of India book, glanced at the Butter Chicken recipe and put it aside because it 'looked' complicated (yes I was being lazy and it's probably not as long as it seems!) and I needed to go and buy a few ingredients!

Any thoughts on how the two recipes differ in taste? spiciness etc? Thanks! :)

I'm afraid to say I haven't made Skinnymixers recipe yet. I must do it.

Skinnymixers isn't really that difficult. You just need to give yourself a bit of time the first time. I do this sometimes when I feel like I need to concentrate on a recipe.

Great idea Kyton, we love this butter chicken recipe, I follow the recipe, till the step where you add the chicken, then slow cook it, as I always add more chicken. I also use almonds instead of cashews and some times replace the cream with coconut cream.
I child-proofed my house, but they still get in!
