Suggestions and Complaints / cyndi o meara zucchini slice disaster
« on: March 09, 2011, 08:39:36 am »
Hi,

i keep having disasters and i have had my thermie for over 6 months now.  My latest  disaster was the zucchini slice in the thermomix cyndi o meara healthy eating book i recently purchased at a cooking class.    The funny thing is - zucchini slice is something i regularly do (not in the tmx ) and it is never failed before.  i thought i would try this version as it looked a bit healthier with a few more veggies in it.  I followed the recipe to the tee  carefully as i have had plenty of things not work.  i thought it odd to have oil in what was already a very wet looking recipe but went with the book.   It never cooked properly - despite longer cooking time.  was wet and sloppy in middle and i have had to throw away as my family were horrified.  i am getting a little weary of wasting both time and expensive ingredients on recipes that should be easy and simple ( have had problems with cakes, the veg nut roast, pasta dishes and now this).   has anyone tried this recipe with success?  what am i doing wrong to keep having disasters?  i find the thermomix works best for me with chopped meals and not mixed things like cakes and slices!  salads, cada, dips and soups are all great.  but cakes and loafs and the like i am not doing well with.

anyway - sorry to whinge - pregnant and hormonal and grumpy at having to throw out food and feeling like i am a crappy cook!

Question  for the moderators,

just wondering if there is a link or a person to whom i can ask questions regarding the  vegetarian recipes  from the vegetarian TMX book - or more specifically who put together the vego book?  i am having trouble finding info or help on the recipes from this book.  I have tried quite a few things in there and they are all great but need some tweaking and i am still lacking in confidence (terrible cook prior to getting my tmx)!!!   Thanks,

Astrid

Hi all,

i am wondering if anyone can give me tips on how to make the harvest nut roast in the vegetarian book?  I made it tonight and it tastes great but is not cooked properly and does not look like the picture.  It is something i would like to get right as it is super healthy and tastes so yummy i think my family will eat it.    I have perfected other things once i got tips so hoping to get this one right too.   I think my errors may be to do with the bread and how much i ground up the nuts.  i found the instructions did not mix it up enough so i had to mix it more than what the book said.  have i overdone it and made it too sloppy?  thoughts?  comments?

« on: July 01, 2010, 12:14:25 pm »
Hi all,

I am after some vegetarian lasagne recipes as i am still too scared to try converting my own recipes ( and i never could be bothered doing lasagna prior to having a thermomix)!!

I would love a recipe that contains eggplant - or a spinach and mushroom recipe would be great too.  thanks!   :)   :) :)

Introduce Yourself / a thermomix new recruit!
« on: July 01, 2010, 11:36:30 am »
hi all,

i am very excited   ;D  to join the world of thermomixers!  I am a mum of a 2.5 yr old little girl, work part time and live in the Dandenong ranges in Melbourne.  we are a vegetarian  household so i loved the idea of cooking fresh and minimising all the effort that gos into chopping and grating tonnes of veggies!

i was previously a person who hated cooking and never imagined myself spending money on a 'food gadget' let alone joining a food forum!  but the thermomix has transformed me into a person who really enjoys cooking and this has amazed all who know me!

i can see how wonderful the thermomix is even though i have only had mine a week.  i have had my share of disasters ( both my porridge and rissotto were crap) but i have had lots of successes too ( my pumpkin quiche was awesome)!

I look fwd to learning lots from all you experienced thermomixers and in particular would love any vegetarian recipe suggestions with kids in mind ( mine is fussy).

Thanking you all already for what i have already picked up from this wonderful forum.

Cheers,

Astrid

Questions? Technical Issues? The Survival Guide / risotto help
« on: July 01, 2010, 09:21:55 am »
hi there,

i am a newbie to thermomix and very much enjoying my experimenting in it thus far!

My first risotto was no good - gluggy and too much liquid at end and not quite cooked enough.  I was just wondering if i should have used boiling or hot water when adding the water to rice?   I have read about other people having similar problems with this dish on the first attempt so im not too worried - i will try again in a few weeks.  Just wondered what you more experienced people can suggest as tips for the risotto in the EDC.  I was also thinking less water??  maybe 900g instead of 1100?

Interestingly i had the same issues with the porridge!!  I can see you have to play around a bit to work things out?  most other things i have made have been pretty good for first time though - and so easy!!   thanks in advance for your suggestions
