Cakes / Re: Magic Bean Cake
« on: July 11, 2012, 01:33:59 am »
This cake is always in my repertoire of GF cakes- I have made it lots of times now and it always comes out amazingly well- so moist. In fact I'll often take it to parties and it gets gobbled up very quickly.

If making these with gluten free plain flour as I do definitely make them straight away- they seem to hold together better than leaving the batter- if I make them with normal flour then I do let the batter rest for 30min as suggested in the recipe. My family have tried them with GF and normal flour (obviously I can't compare the two) but I am told that there seems to be no difference in taste between the different flours.

Wonder- I only used Fishpond once and they stuffed up the order badly- in other words I won't use them ever again. Also, I cant stand the fact that if there is a problem there is no direct contact number, it all gets done via emails ie cr*p service if you ask me!! If I buy books online I now only use The book depository- always get the order right, arrives promptly and funnily, most of my pressure cooker books have come from their website. Also, being in Heidelberg you probably would find the books at any Kmart or Target store. I don't know if you go to Westfield Doncaster but there would definitely be some stores that sell the WW pressure cooker books there.

Yep, I saw the softcover one after I had forked out for the hardcover one although I do prefer hardcover cookbooks especially in the kitchen- the softcover ones seem to cop more of a battering from me when I'm cooking.

I bought a mini doughnut maker from Kmart for $12 when they had them on special abut 2 years ago and I make the kids 'normal' doughnuts as well as gluten free ones. Works perfectly each time. Ths recipe  is such a great standby one when hungry kids drop by!

I bought the hardcover WW pressure cooker recipe book at Target for $23.95 about a year ago. I saw some there the other day in stock and still about the same price.

Hally, the recipe book with the Cuisinart is very American and very basic. I use the Womens Weekly pressure cooker book or the Suzanne Gibbs one.

Stacelee, thanks for the recipe. Do you find that the 500ml water is too much liquid for the PC for one chook?  I bet it would make an absolutely delish chicken stock though! I'm only asking as I usually cook with less liquid than that.

Hally, don't worry- I wouldn't give up my Cuisinart 6L PC for anything. Absolutely LOVE IT to death!!!!!

Chit Chat / Re: What book are you reading?
« on: July 10, 2012, 04:20:22 am »
Have done the 50 shades trilogy already- Ho hum in my estimation! I'm currently reading a fantastic book called " Buddhism for Mothers of school- children". I know it sounds very new age etc but a good friend of mine put  me onto it and I can't put it down. It has far less to do with Buddhism (the author practices Buddhism) and far more to deal with various strategies for dealing with common situations faced by mothers in general. it is a lovely book and a great read. Even though I am in no way Buddhist, the philosophies in the book are very sensible and I think we could all probably take a leaf out of certain aspects of Buddhism in our daily lives. That book along with my weekly yoga lessons are making me so calm, not to mention my recent holiday in Fiji! There's nothing like practicing yoga on a white sand beach on a Fijian Island listening to Cafe del Mar. Oh well, back to the reality of daily life- I am back at work to fund the next holiday now!!

Thanks for the review Cecilia. I had this one on my "to do" list and will definitely make it now.

Cecilia- you forgot to translate the el!! For those of you who don't know German measuring levels, el stands for Essloeffel which literally means "eating spoon" ie roughly equivalent to a tablespoon/ soup spoon.

Thanks for the recipe- it looks simple but I'm sure it's tasty.

Thanks Cecilia. Do you think a whole side of salmon would work? My fishmonger sells a 'side' of salmon already pinboned and obviously the fish is headless and gutted. If I am making fillets for say a dinner party I usually just cut the flap of salmon into smaller fillets and any leftovers I make into gravlax. The size I get normally would fit into the Varoma and it still has skin on one side.
