The Slap was too light and lacked guts. I'm surprised it was made into a movie. I never felt enthused enough to see the movie.

Me either. I prefer books to movies anyway.

I say don't waste precious reading hours on Barracuda. I still do not know what it is all about.

Just back from the wonderful writers festival in Adelaide.
Really enjoyed reading your wrap-up Gert. Sounds like a great festival. I loved the No 1 Ladies Detective Agency on tele. May have to think about a kindle to cope with all Andrew McCall Smith's books after that glowing recommendation.

The Slap was too light and lacked guts. I'm surprised it was made into a movie. I never felt enthused enough to see the movie.
Same here. I though it was a big fuss about very little.

I'm reading Colleen McCulloch's, Sins of the Flesh at the moment. Only finding it mediocre so far.
I have read couple of her books and found them twisted and not in a good way.

I have been re-reading "The Amtrak Wars" books by Patrick Tilley. A blast from the past because last time I read them I did not have children ;D

Gosh, I had forgotten all about The Amtrak Wars - it seems so very long ago since I read them.

I would love to read all the Pern books by Anne McCaffrey again, but last time I looked they didn't have them all for kindle  >:(

A few weeks ago I read a very inspiring book called When the Dust Settles by Rob Cook (true story). Just finishing off an Agatha Christie, Mrs McGintys Dead; light reading but I love the Poirot and Miss Marple books. I love this thread as I am hearing of some good books I wouldn't find just browsing the library. Am still getting used to the ereader.

Where do you live troupie?

I was just reading the Weekend Australian's book reviews  which set me off on another tangent.  Stephen Romei was at the Adelaide writers festival so be sure to reach his review of the Fest in his regular column. So many books so little time.

I ve read a few books lately, my favourite being Debra Adelaide's "The Household Guide to Dying". I enjoyed it so much that I also read a book of her short stories too. I've just finished an early Ian Rankin book - it was a spy story. I didn't enjoy it as much as his Rebus novels as I don't really like spy books but I really like his writing, so I thought it was worth a read.

Gert I live in the suburbs of Perth; actually I have just made your biscuits and when I get off this machine I am going to eat one as they smell great; cant wait until after dinner. After cooking and sewing I love reading and am still collecting recipe books and love to sit and just read them like any other book.

Just Been lent the fishing fleet. By Anne de courcy
( husband hunting in the raj)

It comes very recommended by sister, mother and mother's good friend.

Expect it will take ages as not much time for reading!

I have finished Agatha Christie (not all of them of course as there was about 80 in the set I got for the ereader) and have moved on to Arthur Upfield and one of his Bony stories about the Australian bush around 1930. I like paper books as well but some of them get a bit heavy to hold.

I am rereading Cross Stitch/Outlander by Diana Gabaldon, gearing up for the TV series later in the year.  Cannot wait! :)

Ooooo that is on my wish list along with about 40 others! So little time and so many books!

I agree troupie. No good in the bath either.  at least I can hold the kindle with one hand and a glass in the other
