Margaret, that is loverly.
The highlight of my year when we lived at Cherokee , was the Kookaburras teaching their young to sing. You would think that such a distinctive part of they identify would be inherited, not taught and learned.

I’ve just had a very good friend from Qld staying with me for a few days and she got as much enjoyment as I’ve been having with the nesting Doves. Mum is quite happy leaving them for hours at a time now so I have ample chances to take a picture. The 2 of them are such good babies, they never cry or move much and eat their dinner really quickly when Mum or Dad return to feed them. I’ve never seen baby doves before so now I’m wondering how big they will grow before flying off.  My neighbours are away so a family of Murray Magpies now visit me when they’re away and expect me to hand feed them like the neighbours do. My visitor was very impressed with all these seemingly tame wild birds visiting me.

Our magpies are now bringing their young every morning to be fed.  They are so noisy and demanding.

A gorgeous photo Judy. We have galahs that come regularly and we feed them wheat. We buy it by the bagful. Willy Wagtails are nesting out the back and crows over the road. We also have mudlarks that drop in frequently and a little later in the year short beaked corellas. They are very noisy and I’m sure annoy the neighbours.

Judy, thanks for the beautiful photo. What a joy to have a successful hatching. I miss the birds . There are a lot about here as we are near a wetland. Very few come into my small garden. I’m hoping that will change.

Have you got a bird bath Chookie? That might help.
Cookie I think my favourite bird is a Willy Wagtail, DD has them at her place and he or she always come over to where I am to say hello. Our neighbourhood has Norfolk Island Palms lining the road down to the ship terminal, the corellas love them but drive the near neighbours crazy. I hear them at the local shopping centre where they strip the gum tree leaves and make a terrible mess before flying over to the pine trees to settle for the night. I’ve had the odd galah (or 6) pop in for a drink which is nice.

Mum feeding her babies more often now, she’s been preening them too and I suspect she’s preparing them for their independence.  She no longer sits on them.

Judy, thank you for the information about feeding magpies.  Ours are always in the garden searching out tasty little bugs and worms etc so they don't rely entirely on us feeding them.

How lovely to have the doves so close to your door, what a thrill to see them being fed and growing up.

Judy, I do have a bird bath but the problem is it is too exposed. At Invermay it was under a tree and well visited. The trees here are still small, being a new estate.

Unfortunately I found the smaller of the 2 doves had died today but the other one is growing nicely.
