Title: Mini Balls of Berlin
Post by: isi on January 16, 2010, 04:16:14 pm
Hello again :)

Last year when my oldest son did Birthday - he invited 22 kids ONLY! :o :o
- Can you imagine the excitement????
I had to find something to calm them down at least for a bit!!
So as I have a gas stove in the garden near the BBQ I decided to do a demonstration:
"How the balls are born in Berlin" :D :D
It was very funny to see the Faces of the kids -  amazement when they saw small pieces of mass to transform into a small ball into the oil!
I Filled 2 large syringes (from pharmacy) One with a Sweet eggs and one with raspberry jam - It was great!
The other day there was a new subject in school ;D ;D ;D

MINI BALLS OF BERLIN
(http://i470.photobucket.com/albums/rr64/melgaco/DSC_0055.jpg)

350 grams of flour
20 grams of fresh Baker yeast
50 grams Sugar
150 grams of warm milk
2 egg yolk
50 grams Butter
1 pinch of salt

All the ingredients into our Thermomix and knead for 4 minutes on  ::!

Let rise for 40 minutes.

Knead a little by hand and roll out dough with the roller (5 mm thick)!

With the measuring cup of our TMX cut the circles and put them on a  board lightly dusted with flour to rest another 15 minuts.

Heat the oil in a saucepan over medium heat!

Fry the dough in hot oil (be careful not too hot!!)on one side and the other (sometimes it is not easy because they are round and stubborn)

Place on absorbent paper - Fill with the help of a syringe - Involve in Sugar

Hide them immediately to avoid being devoured instantly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

These look great isi, can understand how they impressed the kids - what child wouldn't like these  ;) ;)  The word gem had me beat too. Like Chookie I guessed 'sweet eggs' to be custard too as it would be a perfect filling for this little morsels.

Hi :)
I am sorry - i have changed the word in the recipe!!
My Dictionary said that Gems and Egg yolk is the same but now I see it is not :-)) :-))
For safety - The yellow Part in the Egg = Egg Yolk - is this the name??? ???

achookwoman : I have to go see my schedule :D :D :D :D  But of course I would love too!!!!!!!

What a lovely idea. Thank you again Isi.  What a thoughtful way to entertain all the children at the birthday party. They would have talked about it for weeks.

Isi, in Australia, these are often sold with chocolate icing and sprinkles - adds a great extra flavour.  Not sure whether sprinkes will translate, so here is a picture.

Hello
Some time ago I bought a mini donuts machine!
I found it very interesting because with this machine they dont have so much calories - as they are not fried!
But everything depends on the coverage that applies of course! :-)) :-)) :-))
If someone has such a machine I can put the recipe that is wonderful!

Isi, I made these little balls of delicious this afternoon. They exceeded my expectations, so yummy, and easy, and look fantastic!

I didn't have a special syringe, but my Tupperware cake piping tool worked perfect.

We did some filled with jam and some drizzled with chocolate. I halved the recipe and could have gotten away with halving again, i think! It still made plenty!

WOW..  Made these last night as DGS was asking for Chocolate Donuts.
They turned out fantastic. I made 22 small donuts from the recipe.
I made most as balls, and a few with jam inside like the 'real Berliner' .  Others I shaped into rings Just rolled in some cinnamon sugar to keep him happy and all gone.  .
DH also gave them "Thumbs up"
Sorry no photos.  I wasn't quick enough.   :D

After numerous requests for more.  I made them again last night.
Rolled in icing sugar while still very hot.
Some we had with jam, but DGS was happy with them just as they were.  (https://fbcdn-sphotos-a.akamaihd.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/398691_10150571025198291_634658290_8726501_1470529963_n.jpg)
