This is just incredible, Katie . . and Cookie - this is just what they've been brought up to believe. . . send a text . . . problem solved! No duty of care, responsibilty, thinking of what the other party endures by such a decision!  Surely she should have given you due notice, Katie!!!  the next one you hire, put it up in neon letters a metre high!  Two weeks notice ( or whatever time frame you indicate)in person and in writing!  It's just not the way we (older ones) were trained to do things . . .the world has taken a different turn, I'm afraid . . .

I would like to not pay her, as her signed job contract requires her to give 2 weeks notice.
I didn't reply to her text as I felt it was so inappropriate to resign via text I wasn't replying.  Sometimes silence is the best reply anyway!

She was probably right the job may not have been for her, she wasn't picking anything up.  But an actual conversation and working out her notice would have been nice.

It shouldn't surprise me though, over the past 5 years I have interviewed and hired many young people.  Every time I've interviewed at least one of them hasn't turned up for the interview (even though I've confirmed the appointment by phone and a follow up email).  I guess some days they just can't be bothered getting out of bed  :D

I've only eaten 2 of the freckles and given them to my DH to hide for now.

I can't understand this??? I would gladly be your receptionist. I'm not particularly trained for it but have a good phone manner, can type, file and have life experience and a first aid certificate. I know how to dress for a front desk position. Oh and I love to bring in morning tea.  :D

No mcmich I want the job. I am completely dependable, reliable and will bring coffee AND tea but only if I have the good coffee machine.

Tempted to get the soapbox out for a discussion on MANNERS.

that is appalling Katie we  have instilled strong work ethics in our dd21 and would be very disappointed if she did something like this.  she gets up at 4.45am everyday for work as a carer at the cerabal palsy Centre is never late and rarely unless sick has days off

What is appalling to us . . is just how it is to our new generation.  Quite frankly I see it as a tragedy because it's all become about "me"  . . not giving a (%&^&*$%^ about anyone else or how our actions can affect another . . . just so tragic.

Suzanne - your daughter is a gem!!

Gert . . go for it . .  Manners maketh the man . . .!!!

Suzanne, you have a wonderful daughter.

Katie, that was a terrible thing for her to do and I would make sure it was noted on her work record.  It will be interesting to see if she comes in to see you re her payment

I'm glad you didn't scoff the whole lot of the freckles Katie, good idea giving them to DH to hide - or was it  :D :D

Love the sound of your DD Suzanne, you must be very proud of her.

I agree, you must be rightfully very proud of your DD Suzanne.

Judy my DH is very good at hiding treats (and very stingy), he will only give me 1 or 2 a day until they are all gone.  Problem is I know where he hides them  ;D

Just read this Katie and I am appalled too. How rude. Don't call her, or text her. Make her come to you for severance, etc. and give her a lecture on her bad manners. P.S. Have a freckle for me too ;)
