Title: Recipe Review-Beef and Mushroom Curry
Post by: cookie1 on October 26, 2009, 02:37:27 am
Beef and Mushroom Curry
Fast and Easy Indian Cooking

Tweaking
I made a half quantity of this and was pleased to see at the bottom of the recipe it had tips for making a half quantity. I didn't put in all of the garam masala and I should have as it wasn't really hot at all. I also reduced the chilli powder and once more should have used the full amount.
I had no trouble sourcing ingredients like the mango powder as we have a lovely Indian shop quite near and they're very helpful.
I will make this again with the full amount of 'hot' spices.
I do need to remember that the UK tablespoon is only 15 ml too.

Don't have the book handy - is it listed as amchur powder?  Some Asian/Indian grocers would have it but don't know what we call it.

Yes it is listed as amchoor powder in brackets and as mango powder in the ingredients. It was only a couple of dollars or so and was in a packet like jelly crystals. I THINK it adds a sourness to the recipe.

I made Chicken Korma last weekend from the new Indian book,
It was amazing, just loved it, the flavours were amazing, I did the same though,
only put a small amount of the gram masala, would put thr right amount in next time.

I live in the Rockingham and went to a great Indian supplier nearer to Perth,
they had everything and so helpful.

May, where is the supplier? I'm wondering whether you can sub tamarind as that's really sour.

The Indian suppliers was on 'High Rd" in Willeton, it is an amazing place, I got every spice I needed, and not expensive.

Thanks for the offer Cookie! I should be able to get to Willeton, as I'd love to browse through that store.
