Cakes / Re: Choc Chip Muffins
« on: January 29, 2013, 01:21:41 am »
I just made these. They look amazing coming out of the oven, just like Muffin Break muffins! I didn't have brown sugar so I made my own by wizzing 1.5 cups of sugar with 3 tbs of honey in the TM.  :)

Would someone mind linking to this discussion about Nico's mashed potato? I'm hit and miss with the EDC method.

Thanks!  :)

I got mine a few days ago and made our first batch last night. I used the chocolate icecream recipe from the forum here and it was divine!

I thought that heavy cream meant thickened cream, but I could be wrong.

Thanks so much for all your replies everyone. This is such a helpful community!

I agree from the comments here and talking to Jo (I think?) in the head office that it sounds like the problem is my blades. She said the blades should not spin independently from the black part on the bottom, and mine definitely do! So I ordered some more.

New blades are $135 +post.

She charged me $150. I also got a new seal for $20 and postage was $9.50. Ouch. But I seriously can't go without it. I think we're going to have to go my parents' house for dinner tonight.  ;)

Em, yes, my blades went really hot, too. I am going to call HO now, so frustrating that it is just out of warranty.  >:(

I just took everything apart and gave it all a good clean and dry (I don't mean the actual motor part, just the bowl, lid, etc) and it seems to be working okay now. I just steamed and pureed some cauliflour and its working fine. I examined the blades and can't see anything out of the ordinary with them.

I still don't feel go about it though.

Chit Chat / Re: what is the best brand of saucepans
« on: July 12, 2011, 05:39:00 am »
We were given an Ikea set of pots for our wedding eight years ago. It was a boxed set with three different sized pots and a saucepans, plus lids. They are great! They all have a good, heavy base and have held up very well over the years. I think they cost around $100 (ten years ago). Just putting a less expensive option out there!  :)

CP, I don't think I have done anything out of the ordinary in the TM lately. Your suggestion about the blades is a possibility though, don't they need replacing every couple of years?

How did you check the blades - what did you see that told you they needed replacing?

Thanks for your help. I had such a big TM day planned - CADA, steaming and pureeing veggies for the freezer, playdough, mashed potato and swedes and icecream tonight.  :(

Chit Chat / Something is wrong with my TM!
« on: July 12, 2011, 04:42:37 am »
I just went to make some Cydni O'Meara CADA - had a small amount of almonds, coconut and dates plus one small apple chopped into eights in the bowl.

I pressed pulse and instead of the blade spinning the machine made a whining sound and the blade did not spin, and after a second or two smoke was coming up out of the bowl.

 :o

Should I contact head office? I don't have a consultant anymore and I think my machine is just out of warranty. Has anyone else had this happen?

Thanks for this review! I just came here looking for this recipe, I am making it for a friend but I don't eat meat so won't be doing taste testing!  :)

Chit Chat / Re: Why do TMX recipes use so much butter and oil?

Where do you buy coconut oil Kath?

Your local health food shop should carry it. You can buy it in little 200g jars up to 2L tins.

Make sure you buy it when it's on special. That helps a bit.

I scan the catalogues to look for sales and then stock up. Most of the big supermarkets will have EVOO on sale at some point. When it goes on sale for 50% off I buy up to five of those 4L tins. They last for months and months and months!

I generally use coconut oil instead of butter, though it is more expensive I think it is worth it for the health benefits.

We don't really eat dairy in our family but I would choose butter over margarine any day.

Recipe Requests / Muffin-like musli bars with jam filling?
« on: March 19, 2011, 09:15:56 am »
My sons really like these bars in the their lunchboxes, but I would like to stop buying them as they are full of sugar and other rubbish (the bars, not my sons!  ;) )

They have a cake or muffin like outer shell, and the inside is filled with some kind of fruit flavoured jam - often blueberry, apple or berries.

Does anyone have a comparable recipe? I would love to make these successfully myself!

Thanks.  :)

When baking I usually just switch butter weight for weight with coconut oil, but I thought I'd see if anyone had tried it with the the short crust pastry before I give it a go!

Thanks.

I got rid of my Kenwood stand mixer and I dearly wish I had kept it. I often do double batches of bread, cookies, cakes, etc and the TM bowl is just not big enough.
