Chit Chat / need ideas how to organize a deep corner pantry
« on: September 17, 2011, 08:54:17 am »
 hi there
 l have a deep corner pantry and l need help :( :( :(
please lots of  ideas of how to organize a deep corner pantry
it is 40 cm deep and is a L shape  one way being 90cm and the other way being 115 cm  and has about 5 shelfs .
the problem is stuff gets lost in the back corner it is a waste of money/space .
l have tried baskets but then you need to move the stuff from the front to get to the stuff at the back
l want to try and do a weekly meal plan so we know what to having  instead of staring at the fridge /cupboard at 4pm
hoping that something will jump out to say eat me .
l hate that decision every night .
that is why l brought a thermie to eat healthier  meals  .
also l work part time and my husband loves to use the thermie to cook tea which l love when he does .
so l would like this to be easier for him as l want to encourage him to cook  tea  :) :) :)
l can buy stuff online but don't have many shops close by to get ideas
please help all ideas welcome

Chit Chat / butter - helps keep food??????
« on: July 27, 2011, 04:46:04 am »
hi there, new to tmx (just bought one) and new to this forum (first post)......
firstly, just want to say that it took us 7 months to finally commit to spending such a large amount of money.
we have had it a month now, and i have used it quite a bit,,,,,, from a male perspective (one that seldomly cooks, and a very limited list of recipes..... - its great...... the more i can help Michelle out with the children and cooking -  :) the better

the question

I made up some rock cakes for the second time (out of the book you get with the machine - and everybody loves them),

But the second time I made them up – I forgot to put in the butter..

They actually turned out just as good as the first lot (with the butter in them)…

A friend told me that the butter is a keeping (or preserving) agent – so I should eat them relatively quickly?????

My question is – is butter a keeping (or preserving) agent……… cos I cant find anything about it on the internet..

The reason I ask, is because animal products usually have a short shelf life compared to vegetables…. But then again, there might be something in milk/butter.

and i prefer not to eat butter/marg if i can get away with it..

just out of interest, i stopped eating butter/marg in sandwiches when i was a teen.. (took a couple of months to get use to it)..
but then i had a sandwich with butter or marg in, and i found it killed the taste of all the other ingredients in the sandwich ??? so never wanted butter ever since..

any help with the above question would be great ;) thanks
