Hi friends.
It’s turned Autumnal here. Met Todd’s owner this morning on my walk. She was picking Sloes to make a batch of Sloe Gin. Never made it myself as we wouldn’t drink the end result.
Also met a new neighbour who recently moved into our lane. He was walking their Beagle puppy.

Although it is cold, no rain, will try a little gardening today.
Still have our visitor.

Chookie Sloes are the fruit of the Blackthorn. They are very very sour. They look like a very small purple plum.
Many people make Sloe Gin with them or Sloe wine.

No cookie but I’m sure some people do.  The herbs we saw were used for medicinal purposes in the dark ages, I’m sure people don’t bother so much these days. It was Interesting though and we were lucky that the rain held off.  Walked quite a lot so I should sleep well tonight.

Judy, that sounds very interesting.  Many people at the Creswick Swap use medicinal herbs.  They often bring cuttings or pots of them with written instructions.  I find them very interesting but am a bit cautious about using them.   They often have side effects.

It is cold again today with showers later.  The 4 old Chooks don’t lay when it is cold.  Immediately it warm up they start to lay again.  The 3 new girls lay an egg most days.

Yesterday I arranged for a man to come and measure our windows for magnetic screens.  We had them at Cherokee.  They are flywire screens that are attached to the frame with magnetic tape.

Good morning everyone.  Mixed bag here today, rain then sun.  Hopefully my washing will dry.
The screens sound good Chookie, usually the fitted ones are so hard to remove for window washing, I was hopeless at getting them out but as I have had a window cleaner for years I don’t have to worry about it anymore
My plumber is here painting the cornices in my ensuite and bedroom after one of the pipes in the roof which his boys installed a while back came apart. Thank goodness I acted quickly to turn the water off at the meter as only the cornices are water stained.
I agree with you re the herbs Chookie and I don’t think any of the people in the group yesterday were interested in trying them out.  I checked out the prices of different plants & veggies for sale at the Botanical Gardens shop, mostly in tiny pots and way too pricey. Particularly the succulents which are so easy to grow from a cutting.

I don't think I would be willing to try out medicinal herbs either. They haven't been through the stringent testing medicinal drugs have and sometimes they even have bad side effects.

Judy, we bought lots of succulents at the Choir concert.  $2 a pot. Our neighbour grew them.  They gave us lots of flower seeds.  I’m not very good with seeds but will see how I go.

Good morning everyone, a good drop of rain here late yesterday/overnight.  Too bad that I didn’t have time to bring the washing in when I arrived home just before the rain came.
The nurseries charge way too much for succulents Chookie, $2 is a great and reasonable price. I’ve potted up bits of everything from my garden for the annual trading table at the nursing home, they go like hot cakes.
