I have also made another gingerbread Christmas tree. However, this one was made in one piece. A tree of life pattern was cut out of gingerbread, baked and then iced.

I made a two tier orange and poppyseed layer cake for my SIL's mother's 70th birthday. One layer was filled with orange curd and the other with orange jelly.  The cake was covered in Swiss meringue buttercream http://www.superkitchenmachine.com/2012/18181/swiss-meringue-buttercream-thermomix-recipe.html

I agree Chookie. I have an Asko washing machine and dishwasher. Mum has a Miele dishwasher, but I prefer my Asko. I prefer the internal configuration of the Asko.

Cakes / Buttercream flowers
« on: August 07, 2016, 01:07:58 pm »
I tried making this buttercream but didn't have much success with this recipe. I doubled the recipe and used the butterfly, but ended up whipping the butter in my Sunbeam mixmaster as it wasn't whipping enough, and then transferring it back into my Thermochef to finish the recipe. I found it hard to dissolve the sugar without it overheating and melting the butter.
On the plus side, the buttercream tasted nice and didn't crust over. On the minus side, I had trouble with the icing tubes blocking - probably because the sugar hadn't dissolved properly. I had some icing left over, and decided to make some more flowers the following day. I did what I would normally do, and beat the icing with a pallete knife. This resulted in a lumpy mess as the water molecules disintegrated.

I did have fun piping the buttercream flowers, especially after I made a batch of buttercream using this recipe http://gastromony.com/wiltons-buttercream-icing/

I made these again and they turned out very fudgy this time. I couldn't find any walnuts so I used choc chips instead, and they were delicious.

Chookie, the salmon sounds delicious. I love the crispy skin too. Yesterday I made another batch of bagels, and piped some buttercream flowers. Today I had to make some cupcakes to decorate with the flowers and some bread for lunches tomorrow. I'm pretty tired now as I went to the growers market this morning and spent the afternoon traipsing around the city whilst the kids hunted Pokemon. Although overcast, it was relatively warm today so it was rather nice exploring the city.

Chookie, I couldn't work out why the ice cubes were necessary either as the bread was sealed in the pot at the time.
The chocolate fudge cake looks good, as does Marina's.chick peas.
My machine has been getting a bit of a work out this weekend as I have been busy baking again. I made yet another batch of the Mochi Cheese Puffs, mini chocolate eclairs with custard and petit four glacé. I couldn't believe how long it took to make and then ice the petit fours. I baked a pound cake http://thermomixbakingblogger.com/thermomix-pound-cake/ in a Lammington tin and had to add more milk to loosen the mixture. It is a lovely tasting cake, but didn't bake evenly enough for the petit four. I cut the cake into quarters and sandwiched two quarters together with homemade apricot jam and the remainder with homemade strawberry jam. I then rolled out some marzipan and covered the top of both cakes in a thin layer and then froze them. The next day I cut them into 1 inch squares, basted with warmed apricot jam and then dipped them in the icing. I made the icing by melting rolled fondant with a sugar syrup in Thermie on 37C until thick and smooth. The fun came as I tried a number of methods to coat the frozen cake squares. I started by dunking each square in the icing and then flipping them with a large pallet knife, but the marzipan kept sliding off. Then I tried just pouring the icing over the cake squares, but then the sides didn't get covered. In the end I balanced the cake on my knife and used a spoon to coat the sides of the cake and then the top, and then eased the cakes onto the wire rack. It all looked easy on YouTube! I ended up very sticky as did my kitchen.  I then tried to pipe chocolate details on the top, but I couldn't find my cellophane cake triangles to make a small piping bag,so had to use a large plastic piping bag which had a sticky-out bit of plastic which got in the way. Once I did all that I tried to put them into mini cupcake wrappers which were too small, so had to find some medium ones. By the time I got to taste one, I was totally over them. However, today they taste really nice, although the icing is no longer dry to touch and is a bit sticky.

I agree with Cookie as I tried the Artisian bread recipe from the baking blogger website http://thermomixbakingblogger.com/thermomix-artisan-bread/. It is baked in a hot Dutch oven which results in a crusty loaf, and uses molasses which gives the crumb a lovely golden colour. I'm really happy with the loaf.

Ds's teacher has asked for the recipe!

Absolutely! You won't regret it :)

I needed something quick to make in the morning before school for a class party. These were terrific. I used mozzarella and Parmesan cheese, cooked them in greased, silicon mini muffin tins and baked them in the oven

I have 3 left from last night, and the outsides seem quite hard, but they're still soft on the inside. I'm going to toast the remaining ones. I thi k they're best eaten on the day they are made.

Very funny Kimmyh  It's a stunning cake.
Cookie, your little cakes sound yummy.
My biscuit barrel is empty again, so I made a batch of choc ripple biscuits. I couldn't get the temp right in my oven, so they're not very ripplely (not sure that's an actual word)
I also found some out of date chocolate covered marzipan in the back of the cupboard. It still tasted fine, so I turned most of it into biscuits to stop myself from eating it all.
I made pea and ham soup for dinner and instead of making bread rooks to go with it, I made bagels. I've never made them before, but I was really chuffed by how well they turned out. I will definitely be making them again.
