New Competition: British Isles on a Plate.
« on: February 29, 2016, 04:19:58 pm »
Let's have fun. A chance for members to win a copy of the much coveted British Isles on a Plate Cookbook.

I have two copies of this fabulous cookbooks to give away. All you have to do is to say what is your favourite British recipe and post a photo of your dish.

Rules.
1) Limited to one entry per person with a photo of your finished dish.

2) Only members with a minimum of 30 postings as of 29/2/16 are eligible to enter.
Entry is open to all members worldwide.

3)To post an entry, please post your name and give yourself a number eg "I'm Lucy and I'm No. 1."  State what is your favourite British recipe eg "Bakewell Tart".  Add a photo of the finished dish. The numbers must be consecutive. You may make a comment with your posting but comments can only be made within your entry. You may add the recipe or link your recipe with your comment. Any comment only postings will be deleted as will any entry which does not comply with the rules.  Moderators are an exception to this rule.

4) The competition will run from 1/3/16 to 14/3/16.

MM will do a random draw as soon a possible after the competition closes.
I will post the books air mail ASAP.

The U.K. Thermomix website has some ideas as does the BBC Good Food website, also the British Isles on a Plate index.

Any questions can be asked on the Questions? Technical Issues? Survival Guide? section.

Good luck and have fun cooking. I'm sure there will be some great ideas cooked and posted.

I will kick things off (any excuse to cook these).
My name is Kim and I am number 1 (he he he).  My favourite British recipe is golden syrup dumplings.

Wonderful competition CC. Thank you for your generosity and good luck to everyone.

I'm Judy and I'm No. 2.  I'm a Yorkshire pudding lover so it was a no-brainer as to what I was going to make for this competition in the Thermomix  http://www.bbcgoodfood.com/recipes/9020/best-yorkshire-puddings.  These freeze really well, I'll reheat in the a/f.

No, I haven't eaten 2, my 'pour evenly into tins' was a bit heavy handed!  Thanks Denise for your generosity and a great competition.  I may do something else but will just add it to this post.

Tonight I've made a quick version of Lancashire Hotpot after finding an easy recipe in a book which took me a while to find.

I'm Mab and I am No.3.

I'm JulieO and I'm number 4.

This morning I made some eccles cakes which I haven't made for ages.  Only 6 to the batch and I formed them into different shapes.

The filling is very simple; currants, honey, chopped fresh mint and fine orange zest (though I used mandarin today).  Really lovely.  :D

I'm Sue and I'm number 5.
My DS requested Parkin as his birthday cake this year. http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=9615.msg142115#msg142115
I've just fortified myself with another slice and a cup of coffee after a boisterous boys sleepover party. I'm too tired to take a decent photo (I really wanted that coffee!)

At last! I'm Cookie1 and I am number 7.
I have made a Raisin and Port Pie. In 1948 an English couple and their 2 children met my Dad and came to work for him for many, many years. This pie is something Auntie Ada used to make quite frequently, so I am hoping that it is truly English.
I used short pastry for the base and Tenina's vodka and ice puff pastry for the top.

I am Marina and I am hoping to scrape in at no. 8.

This one was a tough one for me but I managed to whittle it down to three and in the end went for tattie scones.  I am hoping to post my image up in a few minutes (it's just a generic one as I haven't made these for a while!).

Hello, I'm lucky No 9 and I have made Eton Mess. My mum made it regularly when I was growing up and I haven't eaten it since. First time for making meringue in TMX too.
