Seafood and Fish / Re: Creamy Garlic Prawn Risotto
« on: August 26, 2011, 12:35:04 pm »
I made this for dinner tonight and it was really lovely.  I rarely cook prawns or any seafood (other than fish) so it was a nice change.  My partner loved it and said it was the best risotto I had ever cooked  :).  Will definitely make again.

Thanks Chelsea - another great recipe!

Bread / Re: Parmesan bread (like focaccia)
« on: August 26, 2011, 11:52:14 am »
Made this bread tonight.
I thought perhaps it needed a bit more salt (only because I forgot to put the salt in whilst making!!).  Even without the salt it made a perfect loaf and was very tasty (I think my partner had 3 slices  :)).

Great recipe Maddy  :)

I made these (again) today.  Such an easy recipe for great results!

Today I did the original cherry ripe version, but have tried the pineapple and lemon version before and they are also good.  I've also made them plain and spooned lemon curd on top (Tenina's lemon curd recipe), yummy!

Thanks again for posting this one  :)

well the cook book sold for $511.00 !

What I did find interesting is that the bidding increments were set at $10.00.....bit cheeky for a cookbook me thinks  :-\

Cheeky - I think I could think of a few other words!!  They list the books with as little info as possible, set it so no-one can see the questions other "ebayers" have asked etc.  Its the same people listing these items over and over again, so to have that much Thermomix stock I think they are either consultants or former consultants (and if they are consultants they know exactly how much these books are worth and that they can be bought direct from Thermomix at the normal price).  EDC for $150.00 or $511.00!  Thermoserver for $260.00??  Profiteering for sure   :(

But I do agree with the other comments - buyer beware!

Bread / Re: Plain White rolls - no fuss

I'd definitely try again Molly.

I'd never made bread before owing my Thermomix.  My first few attempts to make bread (using recipes from the EDC or from here) were really bad.  Then I tried this recipe and actually made bread that looked like and tasted like bread!  I was so pleased  :)

Now I make bread every weekend and have tried lots of different sorts of bread and recipes, all with success.  I think you just need one good loaf to get you started  :)

Excellent!

I hope they arrive on a day your checking the PO box and you can sneak them in the house :)

I got my Thermomix in January this year (after wanting one for ages).  I first saw a Thermomix on a food program on the Lifestyle channel.  I was immediately curious about this gadget that could do everything and went off to “Google” it.  I remember telling my partner about this new kitchen appliance I just had to have – he laughed as I already have every other kitchen appliance on the market.  I then told him the price and he stopped laughing!

Months went by and I still wanted one but told myself I didn't need one, whilst still “Googling” it every second day or so.  We then stumbled upon a Thermomix demonstration one Sunday morning at the Wayville farmers market, what luck!!  After the consultant blitzed raw sugar into icing sugar in seconds my partner was sold.  He sat there mouth opened for the rest of the demo, not believing what Thermie could do.  We have to get one is all he could manage to say!  He (not me) spoke to the consultant and arranged a home demo.  There was no way I wasn't going to buy one now  :)

I don't use it everyday - but I work a full-time job in four days (my choice to have every Friday off), its only my partner and me at home (we can only eat so much) and my partner also cooks (I even let him use it  :D).  On my 3 day weekends I use it constantly.  I don't know if it's saved me any money (if it has I’ve spent it on Thermomix cookbooks anyway!).

I’ve always loved cooking and I love my Thermie and can’t imagine now life without it.

Hi Hally,

I bought two books from the UK site earlier this year and had them posted to me in Adelaide.  I just emailed them from their website and they emailed me straight back with the price (including postage, which is the killer!).  I did have to ring them though with my credit card number, as they don't do the credit card thing via email.

Perhaps check the time difference and ring them tomorrow?  I think I have the lady at UK Thermomix's direct email address still if you'd like to try emailing her?  I could PM it to you?
Maybe someone in the UK can offer more help.

Katie  :)

Hally - of course you need 5 dinner sets!  Nobody can eat of the same plates everyday.  I often just buy dinner plates and not the whole dinner set (as they are easier to sneak in - my partner has given up asking if these plates are new and if he's ever seen them before  :) :))

Deeau - I don't have a Newwave 5 in 1 so can't answer your questions, but I know Kitchenware direct have them & there is plenty of details, reviews, questions on their site that might help.  They do look good, but as I already have 2 slow cookers, an electric pressure cooker and a rice cooker, I doubt if even I could justify purchasing one!

How amazing would it be to see JD or Chookie in action at home, it would be a one-on-one Masterclass!

It sounds like you both had a lovely catch up, chat and lunch.  I think the sun was even shining it Adelaide then.

I have to agree with everyone else, JD you're a legend  :)

There is a recipe for custard in the UK Demonstrator Delights cookbook that actually says "makes a lovely thick custard (like Bird's!) but with no artificial ingredients".   I haven't actually tried it though.  I could PM you the recipe if you like?

My partner is English (been in Australia since he was 6 years old though) and was brought up on Bird's custard.  He makes all the Thermie custard in our house and uses the custard recipe in the EDC, but includes a small bar of white chocolate right at the start (blitzes it with the sugar).  He says it's better than Bird's!  It is very nice  :)

Chit Chat / Re: In bed with heavy cold, easy soup please
« on: August 07, 2011, 06:03:29 am »
Hope you're feeling better soon Hally, I'm sure the soup will do the trick!

I've just spend the last couple of days in bed with the flu, so I know how you feel.
My partner made me JD's chicken & veggie soup and that really made me feel heaps better.  We have made that soup before and my partner knows how to use Thermie, so he was able to make it without any assistance or worry from me  :)

Sounds like you all had a great time  :)
Great photo too!  I'm really sorry I missed it
Well done again JD for organising it.

I've just surfaced after spending the last couple of days in bed with the flu.  Starting to feel better now, just in time for work tomorrow!  :(
