Chit Chat / Re: What have you been doing today?

Yesterday I spent 1.5 hours out the front tidying up the yukkas as it was green bin day and I like to put that out as full as I can. I got bitten by a wasp I didnít see, rubbed some gel from an aloe plant onto the area and hoped I would survive until I was able to finish the area I wanted to do before coming inside and googling for info on these types of stings. The area became very red and somewhat sore but this morning it was fine. Today before it became too hot I was out the back cutting back and deheading lots of different plants for an hour.  I think I need to get the guys with the right equipment in again to do some more removals out there.

Judy, you amaze and inspire me with how you keep trying. Although you have issues with taste and texture you still give it a go.

Yes Iím pretty stupid arenít I Chookie, I waste a lot of time and ingredients on things I try and end up throwing out but Iím not going to give up just yet. Last time I visited my SIL I told her not to bother about lunch as I donít like people having to worry about what to give me. She ended up having made a jelly and gave me the choice of custard, yoghurt and/or ice-cream with it. A perfect lunch LOL. Winter of course is easy, I virtually live on soup.  Recently NQR opened a branch reasonably close to me so I had a good browse through the shop, so much stuff and good prices with use by dates less than normal supermarkets but not out of date. I came across bottles of different types of soups but I just bought one bottle of this one just in case I didnít like it. Most meals from supermarkets are horrible for me, believe me Iíve tried a few. I added a scoop of Sustagen to this one and it really was quite nice, it being the most like home cooked soup than anything Iíve tasted. I went back earlier this week and bought 4 more - just $1 a bottle and I get 2 meals out of it.

Marina thereís probably nothing wrong with the recipe, I can tolerate different foods at different times so never know how anything is going to taste anymore. The original was flavourless and my additions just made it taste horrible and it shouldnít have.  The fact that Iím rarely feeling hungry doesnít help, who wants to eat when theyíre not hungry. I just have to live with this, itís hardly likely to change after 2.5 years and thank goodness I enjoy my Sustagen smoothies and many desserts are nice too.  I only have 2 meals a day now but Iíve got to the stage where my fitness level seems to be back to pre-op days so I really donít have anything to complain about. I do like Asian flavours so Chookieís suggestion is next on my list when I feel like having another go at something different.

Looks nice cookie, I could eat that without the chicken.

Marina, yesterday I made the sauce you suggested (Carolines), served it over pasta but it wasnít anything special to my tastebuds so I thought I would add some cheese, garlic powder and a tiny bit of tinned salmon for tonightís dinner. I served it over Bronís garlic rice which I had in the freezer but 1 mouthful and I knew it wasnít going to work for me.  I made a batch of the rice some time ago and froze it in 1/2 cup portions, I thought I would be able to eat it with something saucy but apparently not. I used to love tuna but now I donít (my specialist said this would happen with some foods) so I thought Iíd use the can of salmon already in the pantry but itís no different to eating tuna. Itís all a matter of trial and error and Iím lucky if 1 out of 10 works for me. I havenít given up yet as I still love to cook.  I ended up having a scrambled egg, tomato & avocado followed by trifle.

Judy, I believe peaches are good just now, maybe worth an experiment to buy one?  I find the white ones tastier.

I saw some nice white peaches in Farmer Joeís so bought 2 on Thursday. They were very firm so I was surprised but optimistic when they softened within 2 days.  They were perfect Marina, I canít remember when I last bought stone fruit that were this good so thank you for the heads up.

Iíve made the mango custard that Marina told us about ( tasted a spoonful before putting it in the fridge for later, nice one thanks Marina), cooked some beans and asparagus for tonightís salad plate, cut up a bunch of bananas for the freezer to add to my morning smoothies and made up a batch of liquid fertiliser for the garden with the skins.

Great news Chookie, now you're ready for the next hot spell and have a back up unit if needed.

Glad you could get in earlier and get it over and done with cookie, not a good place to have something cut out. Hope it heals quickly or at least that eye stops crying.

So many people involved in solving your a/c problem Chookie, it will all fall into place no doubt.

Really appreciating the lovely cool change which came our way yesterday afternoon, got out into the garden and did a load of jobs whilst my motor mechanic was servicing my car today. Yesterday I had the bore man come to solve a problem for me.

They looked perfect at the time Marina, fruit is never ripe when you buy it so it would have taken a week or so before their customers realised they were not edible. Iím sure they removed them as soon as the complaints started coming in.

Itís great that your kids are so helpful K Atie, city kids wouldnít have a bar of those hours. Do they plan to take over from you and DH in the future or will they follow their own dreams?
