Post by: brazen20au on January 05, 2009, 08:51:13 pm
cooking appliance before you got your tmx and fell in love for real  ;D :D :-*

mine was probably just my pie maker which i use a few times in winter (and which the tmx doesn't replace lol) i'm finding it har dto recall life BT !!!!

i still have all my appliance unused in the cupboard, i really must sell them lol

My bread maker and I still have and love it (but the TM31 is definitely the favourite now).  I have a dodgy oven so the bread maker still gets a workout.  It also makes fantastic jam but I'll try out apricot jam in the TM31 this week as I have an abundance of apricots.  I'll post the recipe if it works.......

I sold all of my unused appliances as one lot and got $90.  It's certainly decluttered the appliance cupboard and the kitchen bench.
Happy 2009 everyone!

Hmmmm.  Define appliance.  If they fit the definition, I'd say my knives :)

Toss up between my Magimix (Robot Coupe for you Warren) that I have had for 30 years - and still strong.
It mixes, blends, chops, grates, shreds, juliennes, slices (plain & crinkle cut), makes potato straws, has a juice attachment, has a citrus press attachment.

But then my Kitchen Aid with pasta roller, slicer/grater and mincer and sausage making attachments - more fun lately.  I still use both as the TMX won't slice, and the pasta roller/cutter lets you use both hands for feeding into the rollers.  :D

My favourite machine by far was the bread machine.  I have had it for 10 years and it is still going strong - just not often now!
I can make a fresh loaf of bread or a batch of pizza dough much faster in the TM than in my bread machine.  I still use it to bake bread if it is a ery hot day and I don't want to heat the kitchen up too much.
My second favourite is my Kitchen Aid and I still use it for pavlova.  I don't think that the TM can beat the egg whites properly.

Those original Robot Coupes were really great machines :)  When my TM arrived, I packed away my Cuisinart DCLX

This is a hard thing to reply to. I have packed away the rice cooker and even the bread machine and also my food processor.  I still have my handy Sunbeam hand held mixer ready and available so I'd say this would have to be my favourite as I still use it quite a lot.
Oh dear, I've posted on every Chit Chat topic, it looks greedy.  Perhaps someone else will do the same.
It's a great idea so thanks to all those who arranged it.
Keep ^^

 ;D te he, Tenina!

Mine WAS the bread machine, which is now packed away.  I also have a Remoska, which is fantastic.  I loved it before the TM, and love it even more now, as it's a marriage made in heaven!  Things which need baking, I whip up in the TM, and transfer to the Remoska.  Very, very rare that I use oven or anything else.  It's pretty much all sorted between the Remoska and the TM.

For those who haven't heard of them (although apparently they are exported to Oz), they are a Czeck gizzmo, which is like a strange frying pan on your countertop - except that it's an oven, which uses as much electricity as a light bulb.  So VERY economical / environmentally friendly.  Plus, it works better than an oven.  I don't know why, but it does.  Cakes are better.  Everything I've tried has been better than in the oven.

You can see one here http://www.hoorayforhomecooking.co.uk/ (http://www.hoorayforhomecooking.co.uk/) and a video here http://www.lakeland.co.uk/standard-remoska!REG-electric-cooker/F/C/pots-pans-remoska//productvideo/2511?returnURL=/standard-remoska!REG-electric-cooker/F/C/pots-pans-remoska/product/2511 (http://www.lakeland.co.uk/standard-remoska!REG-electric-cooker/F/C/pots-pans-remoska//productvideo/2511?returnURL=/standard-remoska!REG-electric-cooker/F/C/pots-pans-remoska/product/2511), should you be interested  ;D

i have never heard of the remoska or the steam oven!

the remoska looks fantastic - except you can only cook one thing at a time in it?

From an environmental point of view they sound great.  I don't use the oven much because I hate using that much energy for small meals.  So, I generally combine things when baking/roasting.

It may well be like the Thermomix - I have not seen it in stores and a quick search in Google is not promosing.  :(

Thanks for the heads up.

Well, you can't batch bake in it.  If I'm doing that, then I still switch on the oven.  But you can put a separator in the pan and cook 2 things at once that way.

I'll see if I can find the Oz distributor, if you like.  It definitely says on the remoska website that they are also in Australia, but the site's mainly in Czeck rather than English, and doesn't link to the Oz site  >:(

I'll be boring and say my electric beaters coz that's about all I used apart from my electric frypan, but I still use that. All my other appliances I couldnt' be bothered to get out of the cupboard. I donated them all to my church garage sale (except for the beaters, crockpot and popcorn maker). Goodbye blender, food processor, barmix and I can't remember what else.

Hands down the toasted sandwich maker! Many lunches, snacks and scratch together teas made in that and still are! Had most other appliances but never used of course. I got a bread maker at a clearing sale for $2 worked fine but only ever made 2 loaves in it! got money back i suppose  :)

I think even with the cost of the tmx and switching to organic we'll still be better off than we were eating all that crap (both financially and health wise!).

Snoozie, you'll notice big changes soon.

My pantry and fridge look very different now.  Less boxes and more tupperware with food in them.  At the moment you can choose between homemade custard, homemade cake, homemade yoghurt, homemade muesli bars, homemade bread and jam, and there's leftover mashed potato and meatloaf in the fridge.  Sounds look I've been cooking up a storm, but each thing takes almost no time.

We're definitely eating much better.  And we made our final payment on TM last week so it's all savings from here.  WOOHOO!

I agree Cathy.  It is amazing how different your pantry and cupboards can look after just a couple of weeks/months with a TMX.  I am able to stick to my food budget each month now and that includes buying quite a bit of organic food.  We are eating so much more fruit, veg and whole grains - I love it.

Definitely my Kitchen Aide mixer. I still love it, but only use it for sponges and larger cakes.

I have a bench top turbo oven, larger than the Remoska, but rarely use it because it's too heavy and takes up too much room on the bench. Also, awkward to get things out of when it's hot. Similar to this Turbo Oven (http://www.getprice.com.au/EASYCOOK-E737-CUSTOM-HEALTH-OVEN-Gpnc_248--37488168.htm) I lend it out to people when their kitchens are being renovated!
Food processor now only mills salts for my Mineral Salts, and Bread Machine is sitting in my workshop waiting for a garage sale!

I have kept my slow cooker and a hand mixer for meringue. I also still use a dedicated coffee grinder which I never wash! Now in two houses the hand mixer went to the new home where I only spend weekends. I had two slow cookers so one to each house. the children have my Kenwood mixer - they share a flat in the city and can now make cakes etc - but Thermomixer is the wedding present - no boyfriends at present so somewhere in the future.

I'd have to say my Vitamix, but have decided it's staying as it does a better job on the green smoothies than my TM does. I will be selling the breadmaker and food processor (Magimix, less than a year old!). Might keep the rice cooker as I take that along to my church cookups and it's light and easy to transport. I will also be keeping my digital kitchen scales as I have found the TM's scales to be inconsistent in their accuracy (even after checking that the cord is fully pulled out, the feet are clean and nothing else is leaning on the bowl when I weigh things).

(rather what IS my favourite is the TM, pressure cooker, cheapie hand beaters, cheapie microwave dish --ALWAYS in constant use) okay i haven't probably used my Romertophf (? spelling) for quite a few months, but I'm not chucking those gorgeous clay dishes out. The frypan and wok seem to be a thing of the past for the time being, but am not going to turf them either because they are a different style of cooking to the TM, and will always be handy.

Thanks very much for this Chelsea, I will move it around the kitchen to see if there's a good spot for it :) I was trying it again last night and it seems to be about 10-16g out - it weighed a 1kg bag of rapadura at 990g and my other scales had it at 1003g. I will persevere though!

I still love my Kitchenaid Stand mixer and use my pie maker, slow cooker and occasionally my stick blender. Other than that it's my coffee percolator.
Sold the rice cooker and bread maker.

I don't cook meat in my TMX (other than steaming fish and chicken occasionally) so love my Le Creuset stove top pieces.

I thought of a reason to keep my rice cooker - it has a 4 hour 'keep warm' function, so I can put my brown rice on to cook, then head out to Zumba, and when I get home I just need to do the stir fry in the TM. Until the TM has a built in timer/delay function, this seems like a good option!

Slow cooker. I absolutely love it and still use it a lot. My 3 tier steamer was used everyday before thermie arrived. Must get rid of it because I haven't used it since.
