'Pavlova' without sugar.
« on: March 15, 2013, 09:32:21 pm »
This is not a typical Pavlova as I know bit ,  but is a perfectly acceptable dessert dish.  I used Xylitol as the sugar substitute.

Set oven at 150 C.

4 large egg whites
3/4 cup of Xylitol
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
1 teaspoon of vinegar.

Place egg whites in clean TMX bowl with Butterfly
Set time for 4 minutes, and beat at  speed 4.until egg whites are stiff. ( mine took 3 minutes)
Gradually add Xylitol while beating,  continue beating until glossy.
Add vanilla and vinegar in last few seconds of beating.
Place meringue on to a pizza dish covered with foil.  (20 cm.) it will spread a little.
Bake for 40 minutes.
Let cool  in oven.

Notes
It will brown slightly but not form a crisp crust.
Tastes better than its looks.
Will make again and take photo.

Makes 4 serves.

Note,  next time I make this,  I am going to add a teaspoon of corn flour.

This looks great.  As I've been totally off of sugar since Jan, it will make a wonderful dessert for me. :)

Beware
If you have a pet dog please be very careful as Xylitol is deadly if eaten by dogs and other animals.
Please take care as only a small amount is deadly.

soBlessed,  I made this for visitors who are also off sugar.  I find it very difficult to serve a nice desert.  They really liked this.  We ate it with strawberries soaked in vanilla.

Bootobethin ,  I didn't know this .  Fortunately we don't have dogs and the chooks certainly won't be getting any.

Note,  next time I make this,  I am going to add a teaspoon of corn flour.

Yes it is a little known fact that Xylitol is so toxic to dogs.
Most don't survive and it is an unpleasant way to die.
I try and tell as many people as I can as it is in so many products sweeteners, toothpastes diet foods etc. and accidental poisoning is so easy.

That's rather Scarey.
May all dairy items in your fridge be of questionable vintage.
