An update on my situation:
My TM went to the service centre over 2 weeks ago and we heard nothing until my husband phoned yesterday.  It was ready - but we still had no idea on how much.  They did however tell my husband that they were swamped with repairs, mostly from north QLD with cockroach infestations.  They offered us a ThermoServer as compensation for the wait.  When I picked it up today, they only charged us for half the service fee and nothing else as we had already sent it to Melbourne at our expense and they had found nothing.  When I mentioned that my MC had sheared in half, they just popped out back and gave me a new one!!  I am very happy with their customer service (of course) and very happy to have my machine back.  It came out of the car at 2.30 and was making smoothies for the kids when they came home from school at 2.45.....ahhhhh all is well with the world

Thanks to all above - it sounds like the problems I am having are pretty standard.  I do agree that most of the things I am less than happy about are probably not that huge an issue on such a great machine and due to normal wear and tear.  I have been using digital scales since it went to Melbourne when no problem was found as I never trusted them after that.  The funny thing is I only realise they are faulty when I make risotto and after I put everything in, the bowl is almost full and then the varoma is full to the very very top.

Thanks for the feedback

Pippa

Hi everyone

I am wondering if any else is experienceing faults with older TMXs?  I have had mine since Oct 2010 and have had a few things replaced under warranty (blade seal, lid seal and spatula). The printing on the front is slowly rubbing off, but not bad enough to get it replaced.

About 4 months ago I had trouble with the scales.  It was shipped to Melbourne at my expense and they found nothing wrong.  It is now under measuring again 4 months later.  The feet are clean, the chord is out and it is still under measuring.  And now my measuring cup broke in half last week and I have noticed the hard plastic at the base of the blades where it is contact with the base of the machine is cracking and perishing.

I know I can't expect it to last forever, but I was hoping for a little longer than 4 years!!  Brisbane now has a workshop, so I will taking it there next week.

Anyone else with an older machine having similar problems or a solution?

Cheers

Pippa

News about Thermomix / Re: New Model Thermomix, truth or rumour?

I have thought about the whole consultant selling to people when they knew the next model was about to come out.  Why would they sell the old model to you in a hurry when they need 3-5 sales (I haven't seen anyone sure about how many yet!)o f the new model to re-sign as a consultant.? Why not hold your sale off and have a guaranteed sale when they need one?  I think most, if not all consultants would have sold the 31 genuinely not knowing the 5 was imminent.

How do you clean the bowl afterwards?  I tipped my first attempt into the bin and the clean up was disgusting!!  Perhaps it would have turned out in the end, but again, the clean up was very labour intensive and messy!!

Ooooh mine sometimes makes the same noise around speed 4 as well.  What was the outcome?

Pippa, no way will the TMX slice fruit in thin strips.  But you can control the size of the chunks by the time and speed you use.

Sorry - did realise that, but my marmalade either had chunks too big or too small.  I was more wondering if there was some secret to getting "right-sized" chinks whatever they are  ???  I think I will slice by hand and make the next batch of marmalade in the TMX that way.

Thanks for all the advice

Thanks so much judydawn - that was the problem.  No sticking if I preheat the bowl!

Yum - just made this for presents.  Worked well, but there were about 3 largish lumps, so perhaps I added the egg too fast?
Can I please clarify - once you decrease the temp to 80 degrees, do you then cook it for 10 minutes, 80 degrees, speed 3 while slowly adding the egg mix?
Thanks

Is it one "l" or two???  Regardless, here is a recipe for Chilli sauce I just made as Father's Day gifts:

Chillis - the amount of chillies you use depends on what kind and how hot you want the sauce to be.  I read recipes that called for 250g of chillies, we only had about 25g of super hot Bird's Eye Chillies - this was enough!
1 tin tomatoes (or 400g fresh tomatoes)
1/4 cup sugar
!/4 cup white wine vinegar

Blitz all the ingredients together on speed 5 for 10 seconds
Scrape down the sides of the bowl and cook for 15 minutes, speed 1, 100 degrees
Once cooked blend all ingredients turning the dial slowly up to speed 10 for 30 seconds

Store in sterilised bottles in the fridge ready for pouring

To decrease the heat, you can take the seeds and the membrane out of the chillies.  You can also add water to the sauce to dilute it.

WARNING: if you start cutting or deseading the chillies, wear rubber gloves or make sure you wash your hands thoroughly before touching anything else - especially your eyes or mouth  :'(

This recipe is a combination of recipes I read when looking to make chili sauce.  The only other Thermomix one I found was here http://www.recipecommunity.com.au/recipes/xxx-chilli-sauce/42231

Yep, I answered a question recently where someone was having trouble editing a recipe. They lost the lot when using the back button.

I mentioned that I didn't bother putting recipes on that forum anymore as it was too clunky and took forever.
Then said I put them on THIS forum.
My comment disappeared! Funny that...

I wonder if that was me.  I asked that very question a few weeks ago and got no answer from HO, just a single reply from someone else and certainly never saw your response meganjane!
I have a feeling it was you Pippa! Was it about the issue of using the back button and losing everything you'd input? I think Ros responded with something about you get to understand it after a while, then I responded.

Yep - that was me.  My other issue has never been answered (I can't say any more without offending people, which is not my intention as it is not their fault, but HOs).  I am considering taking my recipes off and just publishing them here too.

Ok - thanks for those tips.  I will try them next time I am ready to make marmalade.  It was the EDC recipe that didn't work, so will try the alternative posted by achookwoman.  The other issue with the EDC recipe was that the citrus was just all cut into little chinks, not nice thin slices or grated.  I haven't looked at your recipe achookwoman, but does it use the TMX to cut up the citrus or do you do that by hand?
