Toll free number 1800 753 379
FROM THE GRAND CHANCELLOR

There are a limited number of rooms available at the Seniors discount rate of 50% off the rack rates

We would also like to take advantage of the meal offer of $58 per head with a choice of 3 entrees, 3 mains and 3 desserts for a booking at 1800 on 25 Sat October 2014.
We will need around 20 rooms more or less. We are mostly singles. There are some seniors .

Seniors when booking must mention not only the Thermomix Forum Fest group booking but must also also mention they are requiring a Seniors Discount. Seniors must be aware that this discount may not be available at the time and their booking may revert to the previously negotiated price above.
Bookings will be made by individual attendees.
Bookings will be for the following dates. In on 23/10/2014 out on 26/10/2014. Some attendees may book for less or more nights during this time and will confirm their own dates at the time of booking.
We look forward to welcoming you to Hotel Grand Chancellor Hobart.
Our Reservations Manager is setting up the rates in the system for you, as
mentioned all your guests will have to state is something along the lines of
:
" I'm wanting to book a room for the following dates, I was told to quote
the Thermomix rate..."
Because it's a specially set up rate bookings will not be able to be done on
line however they can send an email to this address requesting a room as
long as they specific which kind or room they're choosing, check in and
check out dates and a credit card will be requested for each booking just to
guarantee it in the system. No payment is required until the time of
departure from each guest so the credit card is simply a standard guarantee
of the booking at time of booking.
I have passed your details to the Restaurant Tasman Manager Tegan Magee who
will be in touch with you in regards to the dinner as stated below.
We are so pleased you have decided your accommodation will be with the hotel
whilst in Hobart and look forward to welcoming you to Hotel Grand Chancellor

It certainly is a busy time, Gert. Do you realise that is the Show weekend? You can all enter your chutneys and cakes (if you can figure out a way to deliver them in time for judging) and have fun taking home all the prizes:
http://www.hobartshowground.com.au/show/entries.html
I know a perfect place for a welcome party - well, at least, I think it's perfect. Would you like to check it out while you are down next month, Gert?
-
Would you add my name to the list please Gert? :D
-
And mine, if consultants are welcome?
-
please add my name too
-
Oh nazar it is so good to hear from you. So happy you want to come next year. I have missed you on the forum.
Yes I will add you.
Gert
-
When are you coming to Hobart on your quick trip, Gert?
-
I will be removing my name from the list please gert... Personal reasons.... Enjoy everyone :)
-
That's a shame Frozzie-you will be missed :(
Would you add me to the list please Gert ? I would love to come :)
-
It will be a party alright. Now to find a hotel here we can make advanced bookings. Needs to be walking to Salamanca . Any ideas anyone.
Gert
-
Ok ad me. Being everyone is coming to Tassie then I think me traveling 2 hours to Hobart is easy. I would love love love to meet some wonderful member. I'm so excited now, can't wait :)
-
Dede that is great

Are there any hotels in Hobart that you may want me to check out IF I have the time and IF I have the inclination on my visit this month?
Personally I would love to stay here but the price is astro, still I can go see and I will be at least having a meal here. http://www.thehenryjones.com
Prices range from $160 to astro in the area we want but we don't know about group discount and pensioner discount. I wish I had inquired about the pensioner rate in Adelaide as I would have saved about $30 a night.
There may be some places you know of to avoid. If anyone has any ideas please let me know.
gert
-
If you have the time Gretchen, just checking out a few may give you enough of a choice to put to us all. I'm sure none of us are that fussed as long as it's clean and not over the top price-wise. If anyone can twist an arm to get a good deal for the group, I'm sure you can! It will be much appreciated but remember with this holiday you are taking, you are to enjoy it for what it is and not use up too much of your time checking places out for the retreat.
-
Sorry Gert, cannot help. I don't know the Hobart area at all, been over 44 years since I was there
Marie

Will astarra be coming.....? :) :)

With 4 very young children - that would be a miracle if she could get away Amy ;D

Oh right.... duh Amy!!! :-)) ;D ;D

Hi All
Local Hobartian here!
There are tonnes of options close to Salamanca and hence close to the wharf area (where the MONA Roma Ferry departs for MONA from - there is a bus option too) with prices varying greatly. Places right in the heart of Salamanca come with a Salamanca price tag! Some options with a more affordable price tag (lets face it, the less $$$ for a bed mean more $$$ to shop!!!) are still within in a 5-8 minute stroll.
Mantra on Sandy Bay road http://www.mantraonesandybayroad.com.au/
This hotel is very close to Salamanca - about a 5 minute stroll through St David's Park, past the Supreme Court into Salamanca.
Salamanca Inn http://www.salamancainn.com.au/
This is right in the heart of Salamanca, but a slightly cheaper option that some of the others.
Travelodge Macquarie http://www.travelodge.com.au/travelodge-hobart-hotel/home
This Hotel is between the City centre and Salamanca - probably 5 minute walk to the mall and 8 or so into Salamanca.
RACT Hobart Hotel http://www.ract.com.au/Pages/RACT-Hobart-apartment-hotel.aspx
This is a new acquisition by the RACT (RACV etc equivalent) They offer a 25% discount on the standard rack rate to any Australian Automobile Club members. This is in the city, so about 10minute stroll to Salamanca.
The Grand Chancellor http://www.grandchancellorhotels.com/au/hobart/4
This is located right opposite the wharf area. Can be a bit pricey, but they do have some good deals at times and worth a look.
Aside from places like The Henry Jones Art Hotel and Somerset on the Pier which are right on the wharf area ( and have the price tag to match!!) these would be some options to investigate. Really, any hotel in the city centre would be no more than a 15 minute stroll to Salamanca.
If you want any other ideas or information about things to do, places to see, let me know and I can put my "promote Tassie" hat on and list some ideas for you all.
Even though I don't often post, and haven't been on the forum in some time, I would still love to meet those of you who make the trek south to our beautiful Island.
Jodie
-
Great info MO2 thanks :-*
It will be very nice 2 meet you
-
Jodie thank you so much. We were hoping a local would have some input. I will be in Hobart briefly soon and was if possible will have a look around. I will be staying in an apartment in Sullivan's Cove.
We paid $189 a night in Adelaide which was a bit exxy. Had more research been done Re the hotel I found they have a year round rate of $129 for seniors which had to be booked in advance. Some of us are seniors so that would have been handy.
I was actually thinking of the Grand Chanellor too as they will give a good rate and have a variety of rooms plus that is where ya wanna be.It is also cheaper than the Crowne in Adelaide. Still lots of time and we will need to know how many rooms are needed before we can start negotiations. I was sort of working on 20 rooms plus. If we can choose a hotel get the rate fixed and a reference number the everyone can make their own booking.
Any ideas Jodie for a day trip on the Friday . Wine, chesse or food related? Sat for the markets, shopping, MONA etc. Also we Need a restaurant for Fri and Sat nights for maybe 30 or so. We are hoping some locals will participate if not staying with us. Some may also be bringing partners which could bump the dinner numbers. The more the merrier.
We had an outstanding dinner in a Chinese Restaurant in Adelaide. Really quite spectacular I think we would all agree. A very good choice of Amanda's.
Though the rooms were nice, the dinner at the Crowne was pretty ordinary and not up to standard for the reputation of the place and the breakfast certainly lacked the style and variety of a 4 star hotel. I was hoping the restaurant would show off ythe wonderful produce that Adelaide has but I guess it is always the lowest common denominator in a tourist area.
Hopefully the same won't be true in your beautiful Island State so long as we stay well away from Muers restaurant at the wharf.

It is not possible to check rates on line for some hotels so early but here are a couple of published rack rates.

Jodie, thanks for your input - nice to see you posting again just in time to catch up with this thread. Hopefully we will get to catch up at some stage of the next forumfest.
-
Jodie have you ever eaten here

-
Looking good. Jodie thanks for you input. I'll now go back and check the places you have suggested. I even know where Sandy Bay is, even though I haven't been to Tassy for about 20 years.
-
Gert, Grand Chancellor might be worth following up. Don't think Henry Jones or Somerset are really suitable. Somerset are apartments and Henry Jones expensive and Quirky. Have also stayed at Mantra but a few years ago so couldn't comment. Thanks Jodie for your input.
-
The Manager of the Grand Chancellor is in my Rotary Club, Chookie. The food is really good at the Tasman Restaurant there. :) The Woolstore doesn't have the same view but has a fantastic reputation for customer service and it's really close.
PS
Repeating my offer of 19 Sept on page 1 of this thread:
I know a perfect place for a welcome party - well, at least, I think it's perfect. Would you like to check it out while you are down next month, Gert?
-
I haven't eaten there actually Gert, although their reputation is excellent. There are some lovely restaurants around the Salamanca area;
Rockwall http://www.rockwallbarandgrill.com.au/
Blue Eye http://www.fishfish.com.au/blue-eye/
Maldini http://www.maldinirestaurant.com.au/
The Quarry http://www.thequarry.com.au/
Smolt - this might appeal as the menu includes lovely Tasmanian Salmon and Oysters http://www.smolt.com.au/
In terms of Foodie and Wine day trips have a look at http://www.tastinghouse.com.au/page/wine_tours.html The Coal Valley is only around 20 minutes from Hobart - between Hobart and historic Richmond (which also have great local art and craft shops). The tour company will totally customise a tour for groups, and with a large group the pricing would be more competitive than what is listed ($165 pp for a tour of 8). Lunch can be at one of the vineyards or in Richmond. (We have a tour organised for our work Christmas function and have been able to totally program what we want)
This is just one option, but as it is in close proximity to Hobart it means a day can be used fully rather than heaps of driving to get somewhere. There is also a Double Decker bus which does tours around Hobart - about an hour, with commentary on local history etc.
Let me know if you would like any more information on places.
Jodie
-
Wonderful Jodie for you to do that research for us. A day trip close by would be lovely for the Friday. The Coal valley and Richmond would be a great trip. Beautiful places with lots to see and interesting shopping too. Perhaps you could make an inquiry on our behalf and a tentative booking for maybe 20 + . If we had a ball park price it would give us start. The numbers could be finalised by say August 23, 2014.
Will we make that the cut off date?
All of those restaurants sound great. To accommodate the numbers can be tricky but not difficult. Again we need the final number for that perhaps by September 25 for a dinner on October 24 or October 25. If we all have a look at the web sites Jodie mentioned we may get a general idea of which appeals. Frankly they all appeal to me! Maybe Friday for one and Sat night for the other.
If the hotel we choose has a decent restaurant a deal may be done to include bed and breakfast for 2 to 3 nights and dinner for Sat night.
I know it is early days yet but if we have a plan then maybe we can excite some more members to put their names on the list. Tassie has so much to offer and we all can use a weekend away with some fun appreciative guys and gals.
If I knew the manager of the Chancellor and he was in MY Rotary club I would not hesitate to ask him for his best offer on 20 or so rooms from the 23-26 of October next year. After all that is what friends are for. ;D ;D ;D
The cheapest rate I have seen on line for The Hotel Grand Chancellor Hobart is $153 for a midweek stay off season. I wonder if that could be matched or bettered?
Gert
-
I checked out the Grand Chancellor on line and it does look nice.
Richmond is a lovely place. I love the bridge and I think it had a cute church or that may be somewhere else. I'm excited and it is still 12 months away.

The Grand Chancellor would be perfect Cecilia. Is there any chance that perhaps you could tell him about forum fest in Hobart and ask him if they have any special offers or group discounts for those dates in October next year? It's a lovely hotel in a great location and would be ideal for all of us. No pressure of course just a thought. :)
-
I can't 100% commit yet but could you please add me to the list :)
-
Indeed I will Yvette.

It would certainly be a feather in his cap and the hotels if he was willing to help us. None of us a quiet little mice and wopuld indeed spread the word of how wonderfully we were treated. (if we were of course 8))

I am sure we would be cookie. I have stayed at the Grand Chancellor in Launceston and the service has been outstanding on every occasion. Once they even opened the dining room for us after it was long closed.

Have done a bit of research around the Harbour front here. OK call it a pub crawl with a taste of Tassie wine and whiskey.
Next door to where I am staying is an old pub located next to Parliament House which is next to Salamanca . This is it.
http://www.customshousehotel.com 3 1/2 star three story with lift 23 room hotel with restaurant and bar. All rooms with Queen beds and maybe one room with two bedrooms . We could take the whole hotel for approx $140 a night including brekkie in the restaurant . It could be noisy at night but as far as I can see not a lot of night life but maybe on Fri and Sat nights.
The Chancellor is about 4 blocks from Salamanca on the far side of the harbour. Very nice but $190 at this stage and no brekkie. That could change
The weather right now is cold windy and not conducive to a leisurely stroll. This area has lots to offer by way of interesting shops cafés and restaurants.
If we wanted the Custom House I think we would have to seal the deal very soon as I say there are only 23 rooms. Tomorrow I may do more research on the other side of Salamanca depending on my condition after dinner tonight .
Gert
-
Thanks for doing lots of research Gert.
-
For those members who use whiskey in their cooking I thought it would prudent to try some Tasmanian whiskey at a small intimate whiskey. bar in Salamanca. I am pleased to tell you they are safe to drink and wold make a lovely addition to any Christmas cake. The Nant whiskey made here is a steal at just under $400 a bottle but you can buy a nip for only $30. Bargain!!
You are welcome cookie.
-
Thanks for the info Gert. Customs House looks good and at a very reasonable price.
Not sure about the whiskey thought!!! I am not a very 'good' Scot as I detest the stuff. Even the smell of it makes me feel ill.
My dad loved it and had a couple of nips most nights and called it "the water of life".
At $400 a bottle it would have to be : ;D
-
Wouldn't it be great if we took over the whole hotel Gert.
-
Customs house looks pretty good to me. You had better add my name to the list, as there is a strong possibility that I will be able to make it
-
That's good ES.
-
It looks like the hotel is almost fully booked already LOL
-
I like the look of The Grand Chancellor. A little walk to the markets will do me good.
-
I might try and make this if that's alright? ;D
-
It would be great if you could join us Julie, I've added you to Gert's list.
-
Oh Julie that would be really wonderful. So very exciting.
-
Is it OK for husbands to come for some of the time. Thought we might stay on afterwards.
-
I think there might be some with the same idea Trudy.
-
Thanks Judy and Cookie :D
-
Thanks Judy
-
That sounds like a great idea Trudy. I suggested it but couldn't persuade my DH.
-
Not a 100% certain yet, but hope to be able to come
-
I do hope so Marie. I'll take care of you !
-
I do hope so Marie. I'll take care of you !
Thats good Cookie, thanks ;D We can look after each other ;) :D
-
I think Ral would like to come as he really enjoyed the Perth Fest. JulieO and Emme, I would love to meet you both and ES it would be really nice to catch up.
-
Cookie try and get him to come. Wayne would be happy to keep him company,
-
My DH may come too and maybe we will stay a few days longer not sure yet.
-
I don't like my chances Trudy. Although he thoroughly enjoyed meeting you all at Karen's.
-
this time next year we will be there ;D we are going to a ball ;D
-
Fingers crossed Jean!!
-
oooh I'd love to go. Oct is a killer month in our household but next year I can see what the kids competition/end of year timetable is and who knows!!
-
Do you want me to add you to the list as a maybe then Zan so that Gert has an idea of numbers?
-
While I wait for the termite man to come and check his dirty work I will share my thoughts and research on Hobart .
The visit was much too short and not nearly long enough to take in all the things Hobart has to offer but I did my best eating an drinking for you Forum Fest enthusiasts!
It will be the same time of year so the weather..... Very cold and very windy but today 20 degrees. For my trip I needed thigh high boots, thick leather gloves, a balaclava and a great coat, none of which I had. Walking fast was practiced.
I stayed in Sullivans Cove Apts Admiral Suite http://www.sullivanscoveapartments.com.au about 100metres from the wharf where the local ferries depart. Parliament house was an olive pip spit away and just one long block from Salamanca Place to the right and about 3 blocks in the other direction to The Grand Chancellor hotel.http://www.grandchancellorhotels.com/au/hobart/ My apartment all but shared a wall with The Customs House Hotel. http://www.customshousehotel.com
First breakfast at Daci Daci. http://www.urbanspoon.com/r/345/1634290/restaurant/Tasmania/Daci-Daci-Bakers-Hobart. Wow!
Then off to MONA by ferry. If in the POSH PIT. It is a two glass and nibble trip. It can also be reached by bus. If going by ferry there are 99 steep steps on arrival. If you do not fancy these I recommend asking in advance for the golf buggy trip up. The ferry then proceeds to a second wharf where you are met for the ride up the steep hill. No problem to them.
This museum of old and new is privately funded and it shows. No government interference to crap it up. No expense spared to make this one of the most unique experiences in the world. Something for everyone even if you are not culturally inclined. It is gobsmacking glorious with incredible spaces filled .....or not.....with an eclectic collection. There is a bar near the entrance . At the exit upstairs by gentle stairs or smooth lift there is a cafe.
Walk outside and up the hill to the Moorilla estate winery and brewery. A free tasting and winery tour is included in you POSH PIT ticket. Eat at the fancy restaurant or walk across the lane to the bistro.
We spent 5 hours there and I figured I saw about 2/3 of the place and was not even vaguely bored. Not a place for children at all even though there were some exhibits which would be of interest to some children perhaps.
Next day breakfast at Salamanca Place. All places packed . The city shops were closed due to Hobart show Day. Pity as the Sea Princess was in port. Next year Hobart show Day is Thursday the 23ed so No problem. http://www.tasmanianrestaurants.com.au/cafes.htm
Didn't go Into the shopping are at all but lots of interest and places open in Salamanca.http://www.salamanca.com.au
On to a road tour of Coal Valley Winery's and Richmond.
http://www.coalvalley.com.au
http://www.puretasmania.com.au/default.asp?pID=126
This place would be great for lunch. Well organised professionally staffed with wonderful interesting food locally produced. The gallery upstairs with the fascinating floor is sock worthy. I had to take a shoe off to experience the timber. Beautifully crafted.
http://www.frogmorecreek.com.au
On to http://www.puddleduckvineyard.com.au Small cutesie and pretty with OMG wines including the Bubbleduck I tried just for you MF. Had to buy a few of those.
Something for everyone here in this historic village. See it before it is ruined by people like the local pharmacy with garish windows. Some people should get with the program.
http://www.richmondvillage.com.au/vineyards.html
A dinner at Henry Jones restaurant. Artsy and wonderful with professional staff. Not as expensive as I thought it would be and worth the money. Wine prices exxy but not overly with the quality wine list. A good Tassie experience.
http://www.thehenryjones.com/dine/henrysrestaurant
Other places visited in and around.
Buy a slab of smoked or otherwise salmon for $20 or less a kilo. In Salamanca Square just off the Place
http://www.tassal.com.au/salamanca/index.php/content/salashop
http://www.news.com.au/lifestyle/food/it8217s-official-there8217s-a-whiskey-revolution/story-fneuz92c-1226700718854
Have a tasting here.
http://www.larkdistillery.com.au
And here
http://nant.com.au
Out of town is the Sullivans Cove whiskey distillery where I tasted multi award winning single malt double barrelled whiskey. Nothing and no one will ever make me drink an ordinary whiskey again. I died and went to heaven. Of course I had done the same the Nant tasting the day before and then there was the Lark. But enough of that. Not for everyone I know.
Last night a small, chef owned Chinese restaurant in Sorell where dear friend of hosts prepared a Peking duck meal. You would never know the young chef had a top reputation when he was at the casino in Hobart and I see why people come from all over to this place. I feel though you would have to know of him to order off menu. I saw one table having bowls of chips for an entree. Here you have a world class chef having to serve chips to make a living. http://www.localstore.com.au/store/164930/hong-wan/sorell/
Now I must get on taking the stems from the pink peppercorns stolen from a tree in Sorell. Wish I could have brought back some Lilacs which were beautifully in bloom.
Over to you now for some decision making for the Fest.
All are welcome to contribute, make their own inquiries and do some research. I know some of you have been or are planning on going to Tasmania. For those who have never been you should. I have been there several times and it is one of the most amazing places on earth. CC would have loved it.
That is all folks.

thanks Gretch for your report from the apple isle ;D (so funny)
-
Gert thanks for all the research, much appreciated and I know how hard it was for you. ;)
When I first read about the thigh high boots etc I thought OMG I don't have anything like that! As I read on I figured if you can cope then so can I.
-
Thanks Gert for all the information sounds like it will be a great trip next year :)
-
Thanks Gert, I'm happy to go along with anything the others want to do. Great spiel, it sounds great.
-
Thanks Gert for all the research I happy with anything that is decided. The main thing is the "get together".
-
Thanks Trudy and judy. The thing is that we need everyone going to have an opinion to make a decision.
We need to know how many for how many nights. How many want to do a wine tour to perhaps the Coal Valley on Friday before we can ask for rooms or a tour. Sat is good for Salamanca but we need numbers for dinner that night in order to choose a restaurant
Then it needs for someone local to arrange with a tour company a Friday trip if wanted.
Or I can contact tourism Tasmania to put together a package . If that is done it may be all or nothing and not so flexible.
We have a year or say 10 months to make a plan and put it all together.
I am sure there are a Lot more ideas out there.
Like the Tasmanian Devil Conservation Park
Old Hobart Town model village
Ida Bay Railway
Inverawe Native Gardens
Louisa's walk
There is a double decker bus with hop on and off
Maritime Museum
Grayline Tours do half and whole day tours as do Let's Show You Tasmania Tours or Herbaceous Tours to meet local farmers and providors.
We don't even have to stay in Hobart if we want a relaxing chatty get together out of town
I think we need more input myself as not everyone is a pi** pot like me who wants to eat and drink everything local. I hate shopping and I know some of you love it so we have to cater for everyone and be where we can all enjoy.
I think getting the rooms is more of a priority and when we have approximate numbers we can seal a deal and everyone can book for themselves. It was lovely having us all together in Adelaide but it was equally nice to have groups as in Margaret river? Hobart is a small place and most things are less than half an hour out of town.
Thinking caps.
Gert
-
Gert, green with envy. Thanks for the work you have done in putting it all together. thinking, may be a list of essential Hobart experiences. example Salamanca market, Sat 9.00 till 11.00 , please attach name if interested.
Mona Sat 2.00 till 5.00, please attach name if interested.
This way we may be able to gauge how many interested in what type of events.
We do need to all get together so need to know roughly how many , what venue can take this many.
Just some thoughts on the logistics.
-
Now we are cooking chookie!
Gert
-
I'd like to stay at the Grand Chancellor or somewhere similar to that. If I'm paying the air fair I would like to be somewhere a little bit super duper. I'd love to see the Bruny Island cheese man. ( I guess he sells at the markets). I am happy to spend the day T the markets or half a day as I have never been.
I adore Tassy Devils so a visit to the park would be great
A visit to MONA sounds awesome.
Coal Valley and Richmond sounds wonderful.
I love hop off, hop on bus tours as you see lots easily.
I am not a big drinker but am more than happy to have a drink and chat while others do. as someone said it is the company.
I am not a foodie, but love food and would love trying just a few of the delights Tassy has to offer.
I also would love to spend a little time shopping. But that isn't vital.
I want to come NOW.
-
Last time we were in Tassie, the Bruny Island cheese man was selling his cheese from Mathew Evans shop which is in the Salamanca complex. His cheese is very nice, especially Tom, which is a cheddar. We were able to take some home.
-
At this stage I will be in Hobart 4 or 5 days before our get together, could help with arrangements and would like to stay at the Grand Chancellor, if we stay in the city.
Friday - Mona
Saturday Markets 9 - 11
Richmond for lunch ( the bakery has the best scallop pies) and Coal Valley wine tour.
Dinner Saturday night ? I'll ask my sil if she can recommend some place for 30 people.
Sunday ?
-
Sounds perfect to me Jeninwa.
-
Yes, me too. ;D
-
And me Jen it sounds perfect :D
-
I'm jealous!
Gert, you write so well. Even though i cant make it, thankyou for your very descriptive accounts. What fun for you all.
-
Ok Grand Chancellor it is then. As I have said before I have seen rates for around $160 but my several enquiries have been somewhat terse and around $190. Anyone want to try to do better ? My plan was 20 rooms plus pre booked by August 15 and possibly dinner on Sat night for about 30 plus . The restaurant gets mixed reviews but generally good.
From my observation the interesting well placed and reasonable restaurants would struggle to seat 30 plus comfortably except for those touristy fish and chip restaurants around the waterfront. Muers is one of those in a beautiful location but I have eaten there in the past, have given it a couple of goes and it is overpriced for utter utter. ,
The market goes all day Sat and I think 2 hours would not be long enough for most. Probably take an hour to walk it without stopping much! There are over 300 stalls not to mention the shops. Then you might want to walk the four to five blocks back to the hotel to drop your shopping.
Richmond is about 25 minutes from Hobart. There are 5 wineries in the Coal Valley and the Wicked cheese Factory. I bought 700 gms of a very ripe Brie for $5.00. In Richmond There are a couple of tea rooms and a pub apart from the bakery which is recommended. There is also the Barilla Bay oyster farm on the way back from The Coal Valley if you do the circuit north east to South.
The ferry to MONA goes roughly ever hour until 5ish from memory and can be booked in advance as is the entrance to MONA. Locals can visit MONA for free. If you book one ferry and want to change the time it's is not a problem.
I guess we had better see how many will be there on Friday.

Gert you sound like you have been having such a great time. We all should be there with you!!!!!
-
Gert, I've written to the Chancellor with our story so will let you know when I receive a reply. I did warn them that there may be more than one request for a special deal for our group who will need approx. 20 rooms from 23 - 25th Oct 2014 with some people staying longer.
-
Maybe not Trudy as it was sooooooo cold I had to spend a fair amout of time inside from the gale force winds drinking whiskey. I didn't really explore Richmond as I wanted too but having been there before in the summer it was a no brainer. LOL!
Gert
-
Your "thigh" high boots must have been a God send Gert!!!

Well done Judy. I have written and phoned my one email never acknowledged, the 2 phone calls by me and one by another produced no good results.
Sometimes a personal contact produces more lucrative results.
Gert
-
Maybe if several of us emailed them they would have to answer as they could see were are serious about this.
-
Your "thigh" high boots bus been a God send Gert!!!
I wish god had sent me thigh high boots, a sheepskin great coat , a driazabone overcoat and a deer stalker hat. No fun walking around in rain and wind unless you are fortified with grog in my opinion. A small umbrella is no match for Hughie. But I survived.
Gert
-
July I will see how you go and then do the same. I am pretty sure I will be there on the Friday. It will take me time to get used to the 3 hour time difference. ;D :D
-
I will definitely be coming on the Thursday as it takes all day to get there from up here. May stay another day or two depending. Might get a bus to Launceston and fly home from there. Just a nice ride and only about a 2 hour trip through the middle of Tasmania.
Gert
-
I'd go over on the Thursday too Gert and I might just keep you company on that bus ride if you don't mind having me around for another couple of days. It seems a shame to go to Tassie and only see Hobart. A bus trips sounds good to me.
-
You bet Judy. Be fun. When it gets closer we can check on flights. Tassie bus something or other schedules it's busses to meet the ferry in Devonport so leave Hobart about around 3 and gets to Launceston around 5.
Or maybe a few may like to create a wee tour while we are there taking in a few other places. Could always hire a car or get a bus tour I am up for anything.
Bruny Island. Hobart to Strahan is an incredible trip but I would not like to drive it again. Had to do it three times in five days once. Over it.
The North Coast is equally beautiful. The trip from Hobart to Launceston by way of Bicheno is Wow!
Port Arthur may be a must for some as well. I have been there several times and need not go back there ever. Too emotional.
Lots of options.
I once did a steam train trip all over Tasmania with the historical train people. Rail lines were opened especially for the trip and we saw places no longer accessible . Magic and it was high summer. Train enthusiasts are proper nutters . I had no idea. They were a lot of fun and quite wicked. I was exhausted after a week with them.
Gert
-
I agree about Port Arthur Gert. I could never go back there again. I found it a very emotive place before nasty things happened there. :'(
I'll probably fly over Thursday as it will take all day and then fly back Monday.
-
Is there anything you haven't done or seen Gert ;D You sure have fitted a lot in for someone so young ;)
-
Too funny JD.

What an amazing array of food. Thanks Gert.

Some more places of interest from Cuilidh's recent trip to Hobart .
Gasworks Cellar Door in a good location at 2 Macquarie St. Sorry I missed this place but it was closed for the holiday when I was there. They do group bookings and give you an educated dedicated "guide" to help you taste your way through some lovely Tassie wines.
www.gasworkscellardoor.com.au . And they will send all the way to your very own house.
Bruny Island is doable being not so far from Hobart. Foodie tours can be arranged to visit the places making fudge/chocolate, smoke houses oysters, cheeses and more. I can vouch for the Bruny Island oysters. To die for. Apparently the Barilla Bay oysters are not so desirable according to some as there is a distinct odour around that area at the moment. There is an "adventure" tour to the island available but not recommended for those with iffy stomachs!
Cuilidh describes the Travelodge as missable so we can cross that off the list of maybes.
There is a funny barge restaurant thingy in the harbour called Fish Frenzy. Eat In Or just get some, sit on the wharf and watch the action.
Thanks Cuilidh for also confirming Daci Daci is a yummy place for breakfast, morning tea, lunch and justto pop in to grab a goodie. Not far from Salamanca either.
Hope there will be more people going to Tassie in the next few months so we can get a good idea of what best suits.
Gert
-
Oops I was corrected. Fish Frenzy is a restaurant on Elizabeth wharf. Here is a pic.

Ok now someone tell me what the barge fish place is across from the sculptures I think. I will go nutso worrying what it is called. LOL!
Gert

Freshly caught lol
Fish and chips cookie
-
Probably cookie. Deep fried at that!
While I have your attention ladies, what about this for an idea ...remember when chookie had her get together at her place and she suggested everyone bring just one gift for a lucky dip..... Might this be a good idea for the fests?
When we had the first one in WA we had a lot of locals, a lot of cars for transport and it was all on the mainland. In Adelaide people still had to travel but each person brought 25 plus contributions to the goodie bags each and then each person had the same number to take home.
This can become a wee bit stressful and more than a wee bit expensive not to mention a lot difficult to pack and bring or pack to send and pack again for the trip home.
How about we adopt the chookie plan and each bring just one goodie to a certain value? Let it be not too heavy, not to bulky , no food to save declaring it in certain states and not too sharp so it can be carried on board .
Waddy think my friends ?
Gert
-
I think that is a great idea Gert.
-
I think it's a great idea Gert. I'm sure there will be some among us that will only bring carry on luggage so will save them wondering how to get it all back home.
-
Well it is not my idea Jeninwa . It was pointed out to me that no one had mentioned it as yet. Achookwoman is the smart one who thought of it first.
It also means that any "others" who come will be able to bring something and not miss out. What do you think about a dollar amount limit?
Gert
-
I think it's a great idea Gert. I'm sure there will be some among us that will only bring carry on luggage so will save them wondering how to get it all back home.
Exactly right Trudy . I almost had to leave my clothes behind due to the generosity of you gals in Adelaide. Shudda drunk uni's limoncello before I boarded as I was worked about it leaking. LOL!
Gert
-
Gretchen, you crack me up.
wish I was with you all. :)
-
I think it is a brilliant idea. I remember in Gracetown some people had to leave things behind as they just couldn't fit them in. I have been racking my brains as to what I could bring that was small and light and not get yelled at by the quarantine boys and girls.
I would hate to have to leave any goodies behind too. :'( :'(
-
What amount does everyone think is suitable.
Gett
-
I was thinking maybe around $50 or even a little more. Maybe we could even purchase a voucher to the value to use as the lucky dip. It will certainly be easier just one gift instead of 30 or more.
What do others think?
-
I was thinking $50 too......if you don't mind me putting in my five cents worth ☺️
-
Of course not, you can even put in 10 cents worth if you like. ;D ;D
-
😊😊😊
-
Great idea to me, it is so hard coming up with ideas. $50 is a cheap way out so I go along with that as well.
-
Everyone should have a say. Gift cards would be a Hoot. Like giving yourself a gift. I am thinking POK . Amazon, Coles, Tea2, . I can see Us all dipping into the bag and squealing. Could even exchange cards. Good thinking cookie. That might be a fair exchange and a giggle.
Anyway an idea.
Gert
-
All sounds so exciting. Trying to get fit enough to enjoy every moment. We will probably spend some extra time in Tassie. Not sure if we will bring the car or fly and hire car. Shame Ral gave up his bus license last year. Lucky Dip, ( one gift) seemed to work well at CC's lunch. It is a real problem carrying imaginative gifts interstate. Hally provided the Bay leaves for me when we went to WA. $50 a good amount.
-

I agree, it was so much easier to think up just one gift for CC's weekend. I think it will make the preparation for the weekend much easier on everyone.
-

I think this is a brilliant idea. Not having taken part in other get-togethers, this is a lot less daunting for a 'newbie'. ;D
-
Seems it is the go then JulieO. No goodie bags but a light weight non bulky non food gift for a lucky dip to the value of $50. Hopefully you are right Julieo more people will sign up for the Tassie Fest. Without having the worry of so many gifts. One big happy "family" get to gether.
Gert
-
Great idea everyone I agree wil everything $50 is fine and much less stressful :)
-
Brilliant idea and would certainly be less stressful ;D
-
$50 is fine by me as well. Gert, I'm sure you enjoyed your little nip before you boarded the plane in Adelaide, would have made the journey a little smoother.
-
Way to go Gert, wish i was. coming

I wish you were coming too Denise :(

Me too :-* :-*

Me as well Denise!!

Thanks everyone, your a lovely bunch.

Yes it does sound a bit expensive :o I though originally they were cheaper.

This hotel is just over the road:

have you tried a Mantra hotel for deals :)
-
Just had a look Cecilia, it looks like it's more expensive.

Add me...and I think I will aim to stay on and do a class or two. If anyone would like to help me I will certainly need it.

I'm glad you can make it Tenina.
I don't mind the hotel price rates as I will only be there 4 nights. I think the breakfast being for two is a bit stupid though. It sounds as though they don't want to make a few thousand dollars.

Any other suggestions.

I wonder if it is worth contacting the Tassy tourist department or tourist bureau to see what they come up with. Surely there is a nice, reasonably priced place that would love us to stay. We are well behaved, slightly cashed up dears. ;) :D :D

We actually stayed on top of the Quest Hotel and the access was through this hotel. Great location but not user friendly. No bar no meeting area and no food. But there are places to have breakfast nearby and is almost next door to the Customs house hotel which is old, friendly with cheap food. Just opposite the ferry to MONA.
Not actually a hotel but apartments
Gert
-
Maybe we should contact the Tassie tourist bureau or a website that specialises in group accomodation such as this one
(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/11/11/gemeqe6u.jpg)
-
To my mind, it all looks expensive, but maybe that's just the cost of accommodation these days. When we were there last week we stayed at the Travelodge and that was $189.00 per night ... and I wouldn't call it anything other than just "fairly basic plus", it was comfortable enough and clean but I wouldn't be inclined to stay there again. Macquarie Manor was just across the road and looked very nice from the outside, but we didn't go inside.
I think a discussion with the Tourist Office might be the way to go. We called in there and they were very thorough and helpful ... I know how helpful they were as I had to wait 15 minutes to be helped! No, that's me being sarcastic, it might be wise to get in touch with them and see what they can come up with.
-
I had another thought about group activites whilst visiting Hobart and I have absolutely no idea at all whether this is possible there or even if it is feasible.
Whilst we lived in Hong Kong there was a group of us that had birthdays close together and each year we would hire a junk and go out on the harbour and putter around to some of the islands nearby where we would either bring a picnic or stop at one of the local beachside restaurants and have something to eat. The weather was always warm so those brave souls who were happy to swim in HK waters also went swimming. We also took loads of snack food on board - and just a wee bottle of something interesting to drink - and we had a great time.
One year the junk broke down and the water police had to come out to 'rescue' us ... but that is another story altogether!
-
That sounds a great idea Marina, mmm now what could us Adelaide girls get up to I wonder?
-
maybe this may help:
http://www.rent-a-home.com.au/articles/Hobart-Holiday-Accommodation-148.html
http://www.stayz.com.au/accommodation/tas/southern-tasmania/battery-point
-
I'd love to come to this but totally can't commit this far ahead.
Is there wiggle room?
-
Don't know why not Amanda.
Been doing more research and phone calls today and am a bit disheartened. It looks to me like the Grand Chancellor is the only decent HOTEL in town for under $250. It fulfils all requirements and they have now given us a very decent price for dinner of $58 a head for a three course with 3 choices each.
Wondering. Change the city in Tassie? Maybe Launceston ? Or the State.......Mebourne? Sydney? Cairns?
Any thoughts or will we must go with the Grand Chancellor. Obviously will get the bed and breakfast price down to brekkie for one.
Gert
-
It is always hard to organise a weekend like this when you live in the area where it is all happening, but it is so very much harder to arrange anything like this when you are not 'in situ' - I don't envy the organising group at all.
-
I'm happy to go with the flow!
-
Hobart is a great destination and is easy to get to for our Southern Aussie members which is nice. I guess those who can afford to go will go and those who can't or wouldn't go anyway may decide to come another year. Not a lot of us have the time or freedom to go away for a weekend anyway.
How about we go with the Grand Chancellor and those who want to find other accommodation can do so. Have the dinner on Sat night at the hotel and see who confirms. Then we can make a plan for a Friday bus trip.
Will that work?
Gert
-
Fine with me Gert, a decision has to be made.
-
Gert, it is disheartening. The grand Chancellor seems quite expensive to me. Did you look at Wrest Point - they seem to have a range of prices and seems to be cheaper if you book direct?
-
(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/11/12/9evenety.jpg)
-
I am happy with that too Gert. Sounds like it's the best option.
Only on for a minute as still no wifi. Hopefully Thursday as have 3 guys coming to try to find the problem. Fingers crossed.
-
I am planning on being there but at the moment cant commit to the staying at the Grand Chancellor, plenty of family that I can stay with, and join in each day/night.
The Grand Chancellor is a lovely hotel, they do a very nice high tea.
-
I'm happy to go with the flow too.
Thanks for doing all the leg work Gert :-*
-
Would any of the relatives have room for 20 forumfesters Jan ;D Only joking, we have such fun as a group in a hotel and it's worth every cent we spend.
-
Would any of the relatives have room for 20 forumfesters Jan ;D Only joking, we have such fun as a group in a hotel and it's worth every cent we spend.
Haha ha
The guest house only has room for 18 what a shame. Lol more like room for 2. Lol
-
;D ;D ;D LOL
-
I'm happy with Grand Chancellor. Hobart is expensive for accommodation , just have to accept that. Thanks Gert for all the work you have done.
-
I'm happy to go with the flow too Gert. Thanks for all your hard work. :-*
-
Gert, thank you for all your hard work. I appreciate it so much.
-
Sue the casino is a 30 minute walk from the CBD. I don't fancy that in the wind and cold. Also apart from some of the tower rooms the rest of the hotel rooms get scathing reviews.
Some gals might like to share a twin room .
Judy and a few others have been doing their research as well so this is a collaborative effort as was Adelaide with CP doing all the work for Perth!
I think after securing the rooms and Sat night dinner we should wait until the new year to make further plans in hopes that someone in Tassie or someone who knows it well will help in planning further.
Gert
-
Sounds good. :)
-
How about you all come and stay with me :)
Free accommodation, I have a thermomix, bring your own sleeping bags and sleep on the floor lol. Bit squeeze though. Might have the caravan finished by then, not very comfortable at the moment though
(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/13/11/13/evy7amyv.jpg)
Your all doing a brilliant job with trying to organize a wonderful weekend, I don't know Hobart very well so can't really help much there unfortunately. But if anyone is flying in to Launceston and needs a lift to Hobart I have a 7 seater van and you can travel with me.
-
Your caravan is very modern, it has built in air conditioning, Mandi
-
Lovely offer thanks Mandi, somehow I don't think you will receive many acceptances for the accommodation part of it though ;D Love that you are going to join us down in Hobart.
-
Wonder if we could park out front of the hotel and have our breakfast in it ;D :D
Good offer and one to consider Mandy. Also help with petrol costs. Be fun get to meet each other trip.
Gert
-
Lol. I can't wait to meet you all. It will be a wonderful weekend no matter where we stay I'm sure. And I'm easy and will go with the flow :)
-
Is there a Crowne Plaza in Hobart, Get?
I might be able to leverage a deal out of them if there is.
-
I just spoke to my bloke at Crowne here who tells me they have no hotels in Hobart, but if we look at another city (Melbourne?) he can arrange something for us!
-
I went to Hobart last year for a conference, and we stayed at the Old Woolstores Apartments. Not quite as nice as the Crowne was in Adelaide, but the accomodation was still really good, and I think was quite reasonably priced. Maybe worth a look??
http://www.oldwoolstore.com.au/

This has not been confirmed but this will be the deal at The Grand Chancellor. No promotion code was mentioned but Natasha Boehm is the go to group reservations person at the hotel. There is a 1800 number or email I assume. groupreservations@hgchobart.com.au

Bookings will be for the following dates. In on 23/10/2014 out on 26/10/2014. Some attendees may book for less or more nights during this time and will confirm their own dates at the time of booking.
Done.
Gert
-
Once this has been confirmed by Natasha Gert, I'll sticky that information so that it becomes the first post in this thread. Thanks for getting us this far.
-
Good one JD?
-
Well done Gretchen. I am very happy with that :D
-
It's hard work doing the planning ... Thanks Gert
I remember last year when I searched for accommodation it was tough to find something reasonable - I somehow manage to get on wotif a 1 bedroom apartment for $99 per night because I booked 5 nights. Average for this place is $180-220. As my husband & daughter would be coming across I would probably look for something with a kitchen again.
When I have a spare moment & on the main computer I'll give a run down of what we did in a week in & around Hobart, the one thing we missed was the markets though. One place I recommend if there before or after & don't want breakfast in the hotel is Jackman & McRoss ... Pastries amazing & the French toast with mascarpone cheese & berries yummy 😄
-
I would say give it to Monday to set it up in their system and then book away. Please let up know when you have done so.

FROM THE GRAND CHANCELLOR
Hope you are having a pleasant week.
It has been decided to make it easier for your attendees that they call and
quote a rate that we will call Thermomix Forum Fest 2014 which will be the
quoted rates below for their stay.
Yes all details below are correct and confirmed.
Hobart.
Should you have any enquiries please do not hesitate to call me or email me
at any time and I will be happy to assist you.
Thank you for your time on the phone, it was a pleasure speaking to you .
Many Thanks
Kind Regards,

This information has now been added to the first posting so it will always be easy to find. With forumfest 2014 being so far off, believe me it will get lost as we chatter away about our holiday in Tassie. Thanks Gert for getting us to this point, now we can relax a bit and just go with the flow, well maybe not - there must still be trips to organise, our flights to book and decisions to be made by some as to whether they are going to join us or not ;D
-
I will book my room on Monday. DH has said he would love to come along too, though he will probably do his own thing during the organised outings, but will come to the dinner on the Saturday night. ;D
-
Lovely Julie. Looking forward to meeting you and DH. . After you book let us know so we can note it .
Gert
-
This is all so exciting. Almost 12 months away and lots of planning done. Thank you Gert.
-
Nearly booked my flights today when I saw a good buy but that is nuts. I'll wait
-
Thanks for all your hard work Gert. The next 12 months won't take long to go if it's anything like this one.
-
Thanks for all you have done to organise this so far Gert. I'm going to book when I see cheap flights, haven't decided if I will go for 1 or 2 weeks yet.
-
Judy and others were helping as well Trudy. The hard part is making decisions that hit others wallets and trying to get the best deal for everyone. It is easier if we have more input but so be it. Done now.
Jen I hope you will stay at least one night in the hotel with us.
Gert
-
Excellent thanks guys. So what's the exact dates we are booking? Wonder if I should let work know now to block me out for those days lol. But seriously the way they going they might need it, it's almost impossible to get a day off with some of the clients I work with because there is only a hand full of people who can work with these clients. Not sure what they would do if I got sick and couldn't go to work.
I will book my room soon too, will have to see if DH wants to come along as well.
-
Dede go to the first post and all the indfo is there.
Here is something else to explore. I can recommend The Lark Distillery as it is not far fro the GChotel!
http://fiveofthebest.com/portfolio/dani-valent-hobart-top-5/
-
That's a familiar face Gert.
Mandi it sounds as if you will need to put your name down for some time off.
-
I can recommend the grandvewe cheese, lovely restaurant and great view. It's quite a drive out of Hobart, the vanilla whey liqueur is different. They had a stall at Salamanca last time I was there.
-
Dede go to the first post and all the info is there.
Gee I was hoping someone would just tell me cause I'm too lazy to go back to the beginning of the post :D
Oh well I better have a look lol
-
Yay that's my weekend off :). Might have to take the Friday off though so that's not too bad :)
-
Ok Hubby is coming along as well. But we will just book in for two nights (Friday, Saturday)
I assume the room prices are the same if there is one or two staying?
I'm not a breakfast person so I won't worry about Buffet breakfast for me but hubby is keen (he loves food) lol :)
-
Great news dede.
-
DH and I will have to get onto booking our annual leave from work, so we can book our room.
Great work Gert, Judy and others getting it organised.
-
I have booked for Ral and myself. He chose the Harbour room. In on Thursday 22 , out on Monday morning 26. I had to ring 1800 753 379. Not 8 at end but 9. Looks good very excited. I am going to contact Rodney Dunn at the Agrarian Kitchen to see if I can do a cooking course while we are in Tassie. He hasn't advertised date for this late in 2014 yet. Will let you know what is happening. Thanks all for setting this up
-
That would be wonderful chookie. It would beat a bus trip for me.
Actually Thurs is the 23 so are you in on the 23 out on the 27 for four nights? That would be the same as me. If so I will note it on the first page.
Gert
-
I've done the same as you guys - booked in for the 23rd - out on the 27th. Mountain room for me.
-
Well I've gone & done it ;D Booked in for the Friday and out on the Sunday. Mountain room. Could not book for dinner on the Saturday night yet but will go to that also. Won't get in till around midday Friday.
-
Oh Marie, that is wonderful news - it will be so lovely to meet you.
I didn't book for the dinner, Gert are you just taking a list of names for dinner at the moment and booking when you have a final number?
-
I sent an email yesterday but still to hear back.
Have booked from Thurs for 4 nights, Harbour view.
Also asked to be put down for 2 for dinner for the Sat night.
If I don't hear in a couple of days I will ring them. :)
-
I am sure you will hear back. By phoning you reach the the central booking system for HGC but the emails no doubt go to Hobart .
-
Thanks Gert and all involved in organising this. Really something to look forward to
-
Emme and Julie, really looking forward to meeting you.
-
I have had a reply from the Agrarian Kitchen and they have asked me to suggest a date when I would like to do a class. ( this would be my 4th.) I have chosen Monday 27 th. October, because if anyone else is interested they may like to stay for one more night. The classes are about $350, and the farm/ school is about 40 mins drive north of Hobart. We will either bring our car over or more likely hire a car. Anyone interested could travel with us. Need to have them confirm date.
-
Thanks Chookie, looking forward to meeting you (and everyone) too. :D
-
I've booked for 4 nights, so out on 27th (not 26th as has been posted on first page) ;D
-
I've booked for 4 nights, so out on 27th (not 26th as has been posted on first page) ;D
Sorry. My fault.
Gert
-
No worries Gert. ;D
All confirmed, though they have sold out of Harbour view rooms, only Mountain view ones left. :)
-
All booked here as well for 24th and 25th (Friday and Saturday) :)
-
I have had a reply from the Agrarian Kitchen and they will run a class on Monday 27 October. 2014 . As it hasn't been gazetted yet, anyone interested must contact them direct, by e Mail. It will be open to the 'public ' when they release their bookings for this period.
-
I've well and truly missed the boat. :-\
-
Which boat did you miss Michele? It's not too late to book the hotel is it - are they fully booked for those dates already?
-
i still havent book my room yet Mich :-))
-
I haven't booked my room as yet. DH is thinking.........just maybe, except he wants to drive and I said no as we have to be in Perth until early October!
I hope they aren't out of space yet!
-
I doubt the hotel will be anywhere near full.
Gert
-
True.
-
I haven't booked yet either, yes Gert I've decided that I'm going to stay with you all for a night or two. :)
-
Lovely Jeninwa. Saves crawling home in the wee small hours. ...if you can stay up that late, I can't.
-
Lovely Jeninwa. Saves crawling home in the wee small hours. ...if you can stay up that late, I can't.
Ummmmm. What goes on tour stays on tour!!
Gert
-
Thankfully ;D
-
Well it looks like I still have time. DH may come - he has never been to Tassie. :D
-
He enjoyed himself at Chookie's Michelle so I'm sure he would have a great time down in Tassie.
-
We are in - will join you all for the forum fest and then stay on to explore more of Tassie.
DH did enjoy himself at Chookie and Ral's. He loves a chat and gets on with everyone. ;D
-
Great news Michele.
-
Well Don and I have booked our room. In on the 23rd and out on the 26th. ;D
-
anyone know the hotels cancellation policy ?
-
I think the rules are on the web site but I doubt there is a problem if you cancel when in a group. I would say we have to firm it up .30 days in advance.
Gert
-
I didn't book for dinner - what night are we having dinner?
-
When you receive your confirmation of your booking it gives the relevant information regarding cancellation. ie
All bookings are required to be guaranteed by a credit card. Bookings not guaranteed by credit card will be released by 12 noon (local time) on the day of arrival. Cancellations are accepted free of charge up until 12 noon (local time) on the day of arrival. Any cancellations after this time, or if you fail to arrive on the day, you will incur one night's accommodation charge.
-

-
I'm too slow, you beat me to it Judy and Julie :D
-
Nice to see us all on the job Marie ;D
-
I think that is a very generous policy. Not that we will be cancelling but anything can happen between now and October.
I'm so excited, especially for DH - I have family in Launceston that I hope to catch up with in the week prior to the Forum Fest.
We are hiring a campervan to travel around in for a week before the celebrations. ;D
-
Mich that is wonderful for you both.
That is a very generous cancellation policy. I will book after the Christmas/New Year/ anniversary/birthday rush. :D
-
Know where you're at Cookie. All we have booked is the room at The Chancellor. DH is flying out to NZ on Thursday to visit his dad and brothers. He won't have time to book the campervan or flights until after New Year. We are heading off to Coffs on the 28th Dec for a short break. :D
-
That's a nice holiday planned Michele.
-
I'm holding off until the New Year too, as just too much going on. I love Christmas, but working in retail does test your patience :-))
-
thanks for the info ladies, i will book today
-
just booked..................... hurry up October
in 23 out 27
-
I must book mine. Thanks for the reminder.
-
I was only thinking of this earlier today - glad it has been bumped to remind everyone.
-
anyone booked flights yet ?
-
I haven't .
Gert
-
No not yet. :)
-
That would be a no from us too, only booked the motel so far.
-
Mich i just looked on jetstar for prices $178 return, not bad.
-
Other than Ral, are there any other husbands / partners going to be there?
-
frank is thinking of coming only for a few days
-
Mich i just looked on jetstar for prices $178 return, not bad.
That is a good price uni. Jetstar? What time do you have to leave Sydney.
Gert
-
That is a good price Uni. We are hoping to leave from Williamtown though. Flights are a bit dearer but by the time we add petrol, tolls and long term parking it is more economical to leave from up here.
Cuilidh, my DH will be there. We are making a holiday of it as DH hasn't been to Tassie before.
-
Not booked a flight yet either. I believe there is no direct flight from Adelaide which is a bummer.
-
Judy I will have to fly to Melbourne and then on to Hobart. It will be a full day to get there. :'(
-
It's a long way from Perth Cookie.
-
Sure is. Being in SA you are sort of in the middle for travel. Not to worry though.
-
Same same here .Will take at least 8 hours . I will have to make two stops and change flights. CNS BNE SYD or MLB then HBT.
Things can change with seasons so must wait and see.
Gert
-
I guess my flights will be similar. It is usually about 4-5 hours to Melbourne. Then I will pick up a flight to Hobart. I can book through for my luggage etc though. Mr ereader and Mr iPad will be coming with me.
-
After much consideration, I have decided that I can't make the Forum Fest this year. I am really disappointed that I will miss out on all the fun and meeting new faces and catching up with the lovely ladies (and lads) I met in Gracetown. Apologies Gert for the late notice, but I was hoping I would be able to make it. :( :( :(

Oh kezza what a shame but we all have to make choices. If circumstances change at all we can still hope you will make it. There is always next year.
Gert
-
If it disappears Gert I will have to wear the same clothes every day. ;D ;D ;D ;D. Or borrow some.
Kezza, that is sad. Maybe next time.
-
Cookie1 Have you booked anything yet?
-
Not yet Tenina. I do plan to book my room soon though. I will leave the flight for a while though.
-
I've started seriously looking into Hobart tonight. We are looking at spending at least 1 1/2 to 2 weeks there going from Hobart probably along the coast to Launceston. It will be a family holiday with my 2 year old DD. Need to work this out so we can book holidays.
I've sent the Grand Chancellor an email tonight to see what impact DD will have on their quotes. Probably prefer something with a kitchenette though so I've been looking at apartments tonight as well.
For anyone looking to spend more time in and around Hobart we spent a week there last year (based in Hobart) and this is what we got up to with a hire car (we did have a 9 month old so you could do more and we really did nothing at night):
* Day 1 - travel day - left Adelaide 11.30am via Melbourne arrived Hobart 5.45pm (there is a real early flight out of Adelaide that will get you there earlier from Adelaide)
* Day 2 - Salamanca & Tasmanian Museum (we missed the markets as we arrived on Sat)
* Day 3 - Mount Wellington
* Day 4 - Port Arthur
* Day 5 - Hobart City, Frogmore Creek winery (does have a restaurant open only for lunch & lovely bubbles), Pooley winery, Wicked Cheese, Richmond (including old Hobart town)
* Day 6 - Stefano Lubian Winery, Moorilla Winery (at MONA)
* Day 7 - brunch at Jackman & McRoss (yummy), Grandvewe Cheese (nice cafe) & drive to Southport
* Day 8 - travel day - left Hobart 8.55am via Melbourne arrived Adelaide 4.10pm
One thing I learnt at the last winery was that in Tassie they will post a case of wine home with wines from different winery - wish I knew this earlier!
You may be able to tell I like wine & cheese ;)
-
Just catching up with this thread. Kezza, sorry you are not attending, but will be another one, I hope.
I am doing a cooking course at the Agrarian Kitchen on the Monday following the Fest. They are putting on a special class and anyone from our group is welcome. They will then open it to other people who may be interested. They only take 8 people. This will be my 3 class with Rodney Dunn. I have attended cooking classes all around the world and these classes , although they seem expensive, are the beat value. Any one can check their web site for info. Or send me a PM for details.
We have not booked our flights yet but are expecting to hire a car and have a bit of a holiday.
-
That sounds like it will be a lovely break for you both Chookie. I am tempted by the cooking class, very tempted. I won't come though as I have to prepare all the reports, for the auditor for the National Rally we are having in September. I will be finalising and closing the bank account in October.
-
Unfortunately I won't be able to come to the cooking class with you chookie as I will have to fly back either Sunday night Monday morning. I will be there the week before. I'm trying to talk DH into coming to tas with me, he probably won't join in on the weekend but spend the time with his family. I'll try and get him to come to the dinner. Must book my accommodation soon.
-
My DH and I have both arranged for our leave from work and I've booked the hotel today.
Booked for 4 nights - Thursday 23rd to Sunday 26th October (out on 27/10).
Both Richard and I will come to the dinner on Saturday night.
Excited!! ;D
Their email address seems to have changed:
reservations@hgchobart.com.au
-
Thanks for that Katie.
-
my home is opened for anyone needing a overnight stay in syd ;D, hopefully by then i will have 2 bedrooms vacant
-
Uni have your booked flights yet? When are you planning to go down?
-
not yet Yvette. Thursday the 23rd.
-
Re cooking class at Agrarian Kitchen.
As no one has indicated that they are interested, the class has been cancelled. I may join another class during that week.
-
So envious....wish I could dump the boys and join in the fun. Will follow virtually, when the time comes :)
-
True BZB. They will certainly be able to cook for themselves and their Dad. :D :D
-
I've finally got around to booking my accommodation today. Next is the flights.
-
Yes I need to do mine. :-))
-
Jeniwa. What nights have you booked for and what flight are you arriving on so I can put that on page one .
I think. I may have made a boo boo. Everyone please check the first page to see if your details are correct.
Gert

-
Just heard we are on our last month with FS.
European holiday not happening, think I might try persuading DH a trip to Tassie is in order!
Hopefully still plenty of accomodation, is it a goodtime to holiday in Tassie. I have never been and it would be lovely to see so many friendly faces again. ( my DH is still jealous of me meeting Matt Lucas...thanks to Uni). Adelaide was so much fun.
-
That would be lovely. I have been to Tassy in May, January and August and loved it every time. It snowed on the January (true!) and August visits. May was cold but dry.
-
Just do it Bedlam!,
Gert
-
Oh do try and join us Denise, it would be lovely to see you again.
-
I am feeling the need to touch base with all you lovelies. We have had tassie in our sights for quite a while. Will work on DH, wouldnt want to come without him but might be able to lose him for a weekend.
-
If he can't come Denise we can look after each other. :D
-
Thanks Cookie
-
Oh do go Denise. ;D You will meet yet more wonderful people.
-
Will you come CC?
-
I wish I could but sadly no.Hopefully I will make another in the future. ;D
-
Just wishing!
-
Oh Denise please come as we all had so much fun in Adelaide. ;D
Wish you were coming too CC ;D

-

DH has been planning our trip this week, we are driving across & getting the ferry, spending a fortnight away. Must book my holidays next week.
-
Kmw that is what my DH wants us to do. However we HAVE to be in WA until the beginning of October at least and then it would be a rush trip.

My DH wanted to do that as well Cookie but unfortately he can't take any more leave in October :(

Well done Uni its gong to be so much fun ;D
-
Great price Uni, it's nice to see people booking their trips now.
-
Wow that's a great price Uni, wish we could get them that cheap from the west.
-
My annual leave for Tassie was approved Friday :) and we have nearly worked out where we want to go in our fortnight so starting to come together.
-
Wonderful kmw.
We should start to think about a program for Fri. Anyone have any ideas? Let's make a list. I'll start.
I suggest a drive through the Coal Valley taking in at least one winery, lunch and a visit to Richmond.
We could use this company to plan an itinerary http://www.coalvalleycoaches.com.au/fleet.php.
Gert
-
It sounds good to me Gert, we should be starting to dot our i's and cross our t's pretty soon. Those on the list should be confirming their intentions so we know how many will be needing a seat on that bus.
-
I would be happy to go along with that suggestion for Friday. Sounds good ;D
-
I still haven't done any booking but I have every intention of coming. DH's brother isn't too good at the moment , but that won't make any difference. I'm just holding out a bit.
Friday sounds lovely. I love Richmond.

I'm easy with almost anything. I have been to Port Arthur, but to be honest I'm not sure how I would go returning there after the massacre there. But if others want to go I will too as I will have my forum buddies to take care of me. ;D
-
I like the idea of the Hobart Hidden Pantry tour and the Richmond Wine Tour. Pt Arthur doesn't make my must do list either Cookie.
I am however, prepared to go along with the choices of anyone who has local knowledge of these spots or has visited them. I haven't so I would rather the final decision is made by those who have been to Tassie before.
I was lucky when we did the Adelaide fest that the girls who live here all put forward their thoughts and we went from there. It made the job so much easier for me to then do the tour bookings.
Gert is obviously trying to get this fest off the ground so please everyone, throw your support behind her. Gert, I'm happy to do whatever you decide if that's the way we have to go.
-
As I haven't been to Tassie I am happy to go with the flow. I do think it is a good idea to have a pre determined plan for Friday so we don't waste valuable time trying to make a decision when we get there.
Gert a great big thank you for all your research. :D You have come up with some fantastic ideas. All the tours sound great so its just a matter of us all making a decision.
-
Port Arthur would be a huge day from Hobart and a difficult journey in many ways. I think it is something you have to choose to do so I say that is out.
I am sure any of the companies could put together a tour just for us with our input and a bus just for us rather than joining a set tour which is often not to your palate money wise and taste wise. I think part of the tour should be a lunch at a suitable winery so we can communicate.
Then something of mutual interest which may be Richmond where there is shopping and places of interest.
Maybe before lunch a foodie place of some sort.
Of course there will be Salamanca Markets on Sat.
Look at this winery perhaps for lunch. It is not only beautiful but is interesting. It has room for a group such as ours and is quality
http://www.frogmorecreek.com.au
Frogmore Creek's Cellar Door and Restaurant sits proudly in the Coal River Valley as one of the most noted destinations to visit in the area. Our reputation is already assumed by locals and quickly speaks to first time visitors as a place to recommend and want to return to. Our premium wines speak for themselves, the service offered at cellar door is personable, knowledgeable and above all, welcoming.
The main theme for our Cellar Door shop remains local produce and table inspired items which offer quality and a sense of purpose for people who enjoy sharing wine, food and conversation. This also relates directly with our ethos at Frogmore Creek.
The opportunity to find something a little unusual for gifting or the complementary pieces that will enhance our wines for serving.
We have the uniqueness of the Flawed History gallery space above us to showcase the story of Tasmanian wine. A permanent art installation on the floor mapping out the history of Tasmanian wines by local artist Tom Samek with prose by local wine writer Graeme Phillips. This area being earmarked for further enhancement to provide visitors with a memorable educating experience. Presently this area is successfully used for group wine tastings. Interested individuals are welcome to explore also.
Cellar Door Opening Times:
7 days a week 10am - 5pm.
Christmas Day and Good Friday - Closed
Tasting Fee: $5.00 per person redeemable upon purchase, (this applies to individual tasters, bookings are not required)
Large groups and tour buses
Large groups (greater than 8 persons) and tour buses are welcome however your booking is essential. Group charges are $10 per person and non redeemable.
Tastings are complimentary for guests joining us for lunch.
For all group enquiries please contact:
There are no doubt lots of others and local knowledge would be appreciated.
The food and wines of Tassie are unique and interesting so with only a small window we want to enjoy the best there is on offer.
If, of course, some want to do one thing and others want to do another we can certainly accommodate that.
We could easily spend the whole day at MONA taking the ferry. There is a wine tour, brewery tour included in the POSH ticket and 2 restaurants to choose from. The food in the brewery and the upper restaurant is great. The cafe not so much.
Then of course you could spend the whole day in the casino playing Blackjack.

-
Me too Cookie ;D

I think a tour out of Hobart including a winery plus Richmond/wicked cheese would be nice to cover wine lovers & non wine lovers and see something outside of Hobart.
Frogmore is a lovely winery & their sparking very nice 😄, I didn't get to try the restaurant out as they were closed. They have the largest list out all I visited. Stefano lubiana wines were just moving into a new cellar door & looking to do food when we were there last year. Nice view from their cellar door. Pooley winery is a small winery just outside of Richmond. Moorilla is a stunning location & had a restaurant & cafe. We didn't go to the museum as not quiet our thing. I bought wine from all these places.
Grandvewe cheese was my favourite cheese place, we stopped & had coffee here but it's the opposite direction, like most places in tassie has a great view.
When I get on the computer tomorrow I'll have a look at the tours Gert has posted - thanks Gert
-
Ral and I will go along with what ever, how ever the Hobart show is on during our time there. Is anyone interested and is it worth going?

We are on QF1505 from Melbourne to Hobart cookie.
-
Will get onto the Qantas site very soon. :D
-
I did not want to miss out on all the Sunday fun so changed my Qf flight to Monday at a cost of $119 >:( which was a bit of a shock but the lovely QF gal talked me into it by saying what a great time we will have and I talked her I to a Thermomix. She said she was booking a demo as someone in her same office had just bought one and guess what? She was in Hobart. At least with QF you get an Australian call centre at least for the moment.
Sent an email to Natasha at the GCH so hopefully I won't get the boot from my room Nd have to share Judys king bed ;D ;D
So what are we doing Sunday?
Gert
-
Great news Gert and if it has to be my bed then it has to be. I'll just have to put up with your snoring :D I think the charge is over the top too. We could just eat, drink and be merry on Sunday if no-one comes up with a place to visit but I'm sure there will be something to do.
-
Yippee Gert ;D
We will all find something to do on Sunday and as JD said if we don't we can eat drink and be very merry ;D
-
Natasha is no longer working at the GCH so now we deal with the lovely Alana. Apparently I had already booked the room for Sun night. Turns out the lovely QF rep Gabby only charged me $77 to change my booking. Win!
Gert
-
Lovely Gert.
-
Probably due to the lovely chat you had with her Gert ;D
-
Gert, all good.
-
My flights are booked as there is a sale on again so I took advantage. Leaving Perth 7.25 am, same as MF and then on flight QF 1505 from Melbourne to Hobart with MF and Gert.
I'm leaving Hobart on 27 th at 9.45am and arrive in Perth about 2.10pm. An earlier flight than MF I think.
I can get really excited now.
-
Yes you can Cookie, it will be lovely to see you again.
-
Well done Cookie. We have confirmation on our room. Busy tidying details for the house but will get there.
-
Was it an email confirmation Denise? I haven't heard anything since I booked. I may have to give them a ring and check.
-
Yes Cookie, once I had the correct address they were prompt to reply.
-
Alana at groupreservations@hgchobart.com.au
Gert
-
Thanks Gert. I have a booking reference number so will give them a call or email.
-

Exciting, looking forward to seeing everyone, old and new.
-
Good one Denise.
Gert
-
Everyone should have a say.
Gert
Here it is.
-
If everyone is agreed then we only need to decide on a limit and not to overboard.
Gert
-
I'd suggest $50 - is that too much?
-
Fine by me.
Gert
-
Sounds good to me too.

Perfect from here.

Gert

We finally booked our Hobart accommodation a few days ago staying where we stayed last year - Battery Point Apartments (123 Hampden Road, Battery Point, TAS, 7004). Its near Salamanca and walking distance to where you are all staying. The apartment ended up being the best option for us with our soon to be 2 year old, price wise and it has a kitchen & separate bedroom so she can be put to bed and we can still stay up plus we will have Thermie with us as we are going away for a fortnight driving hotel. Also as we have stayed there before it was easy to go with what we know.
So once off the forum now I will be looking at the remainder of our accommodation ... looking forward to going away.
-
Good one . I know that place. Very nice . It is going to be fun.
Anyone any ideas yet wot to do?
Gert
-
Is it always in Hobart?
-
The first one was in WA, the next one was in Adelaide and this year it's Tassie's turn INAID.
-
Oh ok. It sounded like you had all been there last time. I would love to get to Tassie one year!
-
Anyone any ideas yet wot to do?
Gert
I was only thinking about this earlier today. Gert.
Thursday is a public holiday for the Royal Hobart show.
Friday ferry trip up the river to Mona, lunch there and either the ferry back or the coach. Ferry would need to be booked.
We could go somewhere for dinner, there's a few good restaurants walking distance from where we are staying, or Mures lower deck of fish or seafood.
Saturday morning Salamanca market,
In afternoon trip to Richmond or the coal valley wineries or both. We would probably need to book a tour.
Dinner on Saturday night at the grand chancellor.
Anyone else got any ideas?
-
I'm looking forward to the Salamanca Market.
-
Me too cookie. The forum feast will be the last 5 days of our 3 weeks away. Happy to follow those who know.
-
I am happy to go with the flow as this will be my first visit to Tassie.
All the suggestions sound good to me :D
-
I've been a couple of times before but not for several years. A beautiful place.
-
Happy to do what everyone else does. I am hoping to organise to be able to stay the Sunday and come back Monday which would mean an extra day with everyone.
-
I will keep my fingers crossed.
-
I'm booked. Room and flights. Arrive 23/10 and out 27/10. Work is so busy ATM that I haven't had time to go through all of the posts on here but I am happy to go with the flow. Time is really going to fly between now and October! So exciting
Oh do I need to book the Saturday dinner as well?
-
I don't think the dinner needs to be booked right now Gayle. So pleased you are coming. D
Looking forward to meeting you Marie . It's gonna be lots of fun ;D
-
Yes, it's getting closer so we need to all make our arrangements if we haven't already. Marie it will be wonderful meeting you for the first time and catching up with old buddies is something I'm looking forward to as well. Gert & Jen seem to be on the right track for outings and I have no knowledge to be able to add to it so will be happy to go along with what everyone else is doing. We'll need numbers for booking a bus, ferry etc though so maybe we need a cut off date to enable those bookings to be made.
-
I am firmly of the opinion that I will need a wee break after the next couple of months. I was out all last week or doing Car stuff, this morning I am home for a while and off to do the shopping, out doing car stuff tomorrow. It is fun but very full on and will get worse. I am getting quite excited for the car National Meet and then Tassy.
-
I am firmly of the opinion that I will need a wee break after the next couple of months.
Me too cookie!!
Thanks MFIt's gonna be lots of fun ;D
;D ;D
-
Very pleased you are coming Gayle, looking forward to seeing everyone again.
-
I've updated the list with some who have booked. Anyone else on the list who hasn't booked but intends going?
-
Jeninwa and I were speaking to Tenina the other day and she can't make it this time. Just heaps going on.
-
Thanks Cookie, have removed Tenina's name.
-
After I clicked off I realised I could easily have done it. :-\
-
Judy, I think you should remove my name from the list. I would love to catch up with everyone, but I don't think I will make it this time. Whilst DH would probably just tell me to go, I think I should put the money I would spend just on myself in Tassie towards a family holiday instead. Before I know it the kids will be grown up and not interested in a family holiday, so I need to make the most of it now :)
-
No worries Sue, will do. I would think the same if I had a young family.
-
They grow up so very fast ES.
-
You will be missed Sue but understand your thoughts completely.
-
Ok my lovelies it is time to finalise the details of our trip to Hobart so will be needing numbers for the dinner on Sat night. Just to remind you I have copied details from page one .
Seems there are 14 for dinner and kmw will make 15 if she confirms.
Gert
FINAL DETAILS OF OUR HOTEL BOOKING IN TASMANIA FOR FORUMFEST 2014

Their email address seems to have changed:
reservations@hgchobart.com.au
Toll free number 1800 753 379
FROM THE GRAND CHANCELLOR
Hope you are having a pleasant week.
It has been decided to make it easier for your attendees that they call and
quote a rate that we will call Thermomix Forum Fest 2014 which will be the
quoted rates below for their stay.
Yes all details below are correct and confirmed.
Room Only Rates
Mountain Side Room Only: $230 per room per night
Harbour View Room Only: $265 per room per night
Additional Buffett Breakfast add $20 per person per room per night
There are a limited number of rooms available at the Seniors discount rate of 50% off the rack rates
Mountain Side Room $178 per room per night
Harbour View Room. $195 per room per night
We would also like to take advantage of the meal offer of $58 per head with a choice of 3 entrees, 3 mains and 3 desserts for a booking at 1800 on 25 Sat October 2014.
We will need around 20 rooms more or less. We are mostly singles. There are some seniors .
When making a reservation we must mention the Thermomix Forum Fest group booking.
Hobart.
Should you have any enquiries please do not hesitate to call me or email me
at any time and I will be happy to assist you.
Thank you for your time on the phone, it was a pleasure speaking to you .
Many Thanks
Kind Regards,

Thinking some arrive Thursday. An adventure on Friday. Saturday all day roaming Hobart and the Salamanca markets. MONA . Dinner. Sunday maybe brunch.
Staying at the above hotel.
Any and all suggestions very welcome and anyone in Tassie who can help with ideas would be lovely. If not anyone with any experience in Hobart please raise your hand. I am going down next month and will be pretty busy but I will at least be able to tell you about the weather. I will be staying at the Sullivan Cove apts .
There are many wonderful restaurants in Hobart but it is a busy time so booking will certainly be necessary for hotel and eating. Saturday evening meal booked at the above hotel.
Tasmania is a small place so we would all be delighted to meet as many locals as possible.

I have spoken with Gert, Cookie and JD and put my hand up to get the ball rolling on organise a trip or two for while we are in Hobart. Please feel free to make any suggestions.
We will need final number by the end of the Month. So that bookings can be made.
With the help of Gert this is what I have come up with so far.
As most are arriving Thursday we could meet for pre dinner drinks at a bar in the Grand Chancellor, then go somewhere for dinner.
Do we want have dinner each night as a group or do our own thing?
Friday: A get together breakfast at the hotel then off on trip through the Coal Valley with lunch at Frogmore Creek Winery and Richmond for afternoon tea. Will need numbers
Dinner?
Saturday: Salamanca Markets and for those that would like a ferry trip up the Derwent River to MONA
Then dinner Saturday night at the Grand Chancellor $58.00 a head. See Gerts post.
A leisurely stroll to Salamanca would probably take 25min or a taxi 3min.
Mona admission is $20.00 and concession $15.00
Ferry :
Posh Pit $50.00 Which includes access to exclusive lounge and bar, Complimentary beverages, including Moorilla wine and Moo Brew beer. Complimentary Canapés, pastries and antipasto platters.
Standard $20.00 Sit on sheep. (Info from Mona web page)
Sunday: A get together breakfast, any suggestions for a outing. I will be saying good bye at breakfast.
-
I am in for drinks and dinner on Thurs . We will no doubt need to book a place for dinner. Any suggestions?
Friday I am in for the tour.
Sat good for dinner. But no to MONA but for those going it is worth every penny and the Posh Pit is great.
Gert
-
I love the idea of the adventure on Friday. I would love arvo tea in Richmond. Saturday is love to go to the markets. Saturday afternoon I may need to rest the leg/back. But I will see. Not long now. Maybe if I say no to MONA now just in case. I won't have any trouble occupying myself.
I'm in for Thursday dinner and Friday dinner please. I'm will do everything please except perhaps the MONA visit.
-
Count Ral and I in for everything. Just let us know how much and when , where to pay. We are spending a few extra days in Tassie , after the get together.
-
Thursday - I think it would be nice to have our evening meal as a group if possible.
Friday tour - I'm in for that one, sounds good to me and dinner somewhere, yes please.
Saturday - Salamanca is apparently open from 8-3 so I'd like to spend as much time there as possible without rushing so will say NO to MONA and can amuse myself afterwards until we meet for dinner that night.
Sunday - I have no suggestions as I don't know the place.
Thanks Gert for what you have done for us so far and Jen, glad to see you put your hand up. Thank you so much girls.
-
Ok I am in for Thursday dinner, all plans for Friday too, Saturday markets and dinner but a no to Mona for me also. Sunday is a bonus day and I am absolutely happy to go with the flow as for me its about being with everyone and whatever we do will be great.
A big thank you to Gert and Jen for their suggestions. It's greatly appreciated and I am very excited. :D
-
Thanks Gert and Jen for organising these details.
Evan and I will be in dinner Thursday, the tour Friday, the markets Saturday but not Mona ( we are staying on until the following Thursday so will get to Mona later on our own, would like to spend time at the market). Also both for Saturday dinner.
Hope it's ok with everyone to have Evan join in the festivities.
Looking forward to spending time with all you lovelies.
-
Awesome Denise x
I will need to bring my stilts!! LOL
-
Hopefully will see you before Norma, X
-
I arrive 12.45 pm on Thursday so I am in for everything from Thursday (including Saturday Dinner for 1 please) except MONA. Sorry no suggestions for Sunday. It's been a long time since I was in Tassie!
Thank you very much to those involved in the organisation. So exciting. The days are rushing by. Only 60 something days to go!
-
It will be lovely to meet your DH Denise and of course he can join us.
-
Oooh, I am so jealous! Although I had put my name down as a tentative attendee, after my spontaneous holiday to the UK, (which is rapidly drawing to a close :(), and the precarious job situation, I won't be able to join in. It is also very close to DD's Year 12 exams, so I will be needed to be a calming influence. :-))
I have long wanted to visit Tassie, and there would have been no better group of people to do it with, so I will just have to live vicariously through your reports! :)
-
I have just added another night to my accomodation Yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee so now leaving on the Monday morning to come home ;D
I won't get into Hobart till lunch time on the Friday so will probably do some shopping in the afternoon and catch up at dinner Friday evening. Saturday at the market and because of walking difficulties may get a taxi there. Will pass on Mona and will be at the dinner on Saturday evening. I am happy to do what ever on the Sunday. I am sorry I have not been able to contribute to ideas for Hobart but as I am so out of touch with what is there I would not feel comfortable recommending places. A big thank you to Gert and Jen for all your trouble. :-* :-* Looking forward to meeting you all
-
It's sounding very exciting. I don't think we will have much trouble keeping ourselves occupied, that is if we can stop talking. ;D ;D
Bedlam, I wish my DH would come. :-\
-
Great news Marie.
-
Lovely Marie. If you won't get into Hobart until 1200 perhaps you could make it on your own to the Frogmore Winery just outside of Hobart for lunch....that is if that is where Jen is planning.
That winery is quite beautiful and an interesting gallery upstairs. The wine is great, lovely views and very interesting staff. http://www.frogmorecreek.com.au
Will we be going to church Sunday morning?
Gert
-
There is St Davids Cathedral, It is a quiet place in the heart of Hobart where you can connect with God, contemplate, meditate, pray or just walk around and look. The cathedral is open every day.
-
Thanks for that Jen. God might be surprised to see me there but is is a lovely church. The Tassie Symphony has played there and the organ is one of the finest in Australia. And it is in an interesting area for a look see..
Gert
-
May I sleep in instead of going to church? I don't want to be responsible for the collapse of a lovely church.
-
Sure ya can cookie.
Gert
-
Thanks Gert & Jen for organising, greatly appreciated!
Richard and I are in for Thursdays dinner, Fridays tour, lunch and afternoon tea, Saturdays visit to the market, Mona and dinner. We will probably skip the big hotel breakfasts each day, as that is too much food and I need to save room for lunch and dinner!
Depending in what is happening on Sunday we may do our own thing, as Richard has some things he wants to do - like a tour of the Cascade Brewery. We are spending nearly two weeks in Tassie, with the forum fest being at the end of our holiday. We are both looking forward to it, Richard had such a great time at the dinner in Adelaide last year & he is looking to seeing everyone again.
-
And we are looking forward to seeing Richard!
Gert
-
Thanks Gert & Jen for the organising.
I will be travelling with with my DH Adrian & 2 year old DD Alayna. So will have to juggle some things around her but Adrian great in saying it's my few days & is happy for me to go off and do things with the group.
Thursday night - count me in & depending where we go if ok with the group Adrian & Alayna join us at least for the first part of the night until Alayna needs to go to bed.
Friday - tour, lunch & afternoon tea count me in. Frogmore Winery is wonderful & I love their sparkling plus it is a beautiful setting.
Saturday - yes to the market but no to MONA as we have been there before. Dinner that night for one.
Sunday - we will drop in for coffee wherever you end up as we are normally up by 7 with Alayna which may be a tad to early for breakfast 😉
-
Kmw your DH and DD would be more than welcome to join us.
Gert and I have organized the bus trip for Friday, I will let you no cost when we get final numbers.
Don't forget the cut off date is the end of this month.
As only a few are interested in going to Mona I thought it might be easier if you did your own booking.
http://www.mona.net.au/visit/getting-here
-
Bus trip is just about organised just have a question about lunch does anyone have any allergies or dietary requirements?
-
Not with me Jen but I don't eat all that funny food Gert eats :D
-
No allergies here either Jeninwa.
-
My DH has a nut allergy Jen.
Thanks again for organising this!
-
I think the lunch is Lambs tongues, pigs ears , beef cheeks and pork trotters on squid ink pasta Judy. You will love it especially with the tripe and truffle sauce.
Good job Jen. Very innovative. If anyone is still hungry after all that then they can get a vegetarian seaweed pie in Richmond.
Perfect.
Gert
-
I think I'd just go directly to the vegetarian seaweed pie. I think it would be tasty. ;D ;D ;D
-

Thanks for posting the photos Gert.
-
Will catch up with you all on Friday evening ;D I hope you all enjoy the trip on Friday
-
And while we are here and getting excited , where could be the next Forum Fest where perhaps more people can attend. It has been suggested that somewhere we could do a factory outlet tour. Any ideas?

Hi all, I'm coming to Hobart to catch up with you all. What time are you all going to Market? Or Mona? I could meet you at one or the other and make a full day of it. I'm really looking forward to meeting you fine people :)
-
Mandi, this is what Jen has booked so far. There is still room on the bus for more people.
"I've made a reservation for Thursday night at Tavern 42 Degrees South for 7 pm. Walking distance from our hotel. Everyone to pay for their own meal and drinks.

Saturday is the Salamanca markets. MONA, not enough wanted to go there so that will be something optional for others to do if they like.
Sunday, nothing has been organised to my knowledge for this day.
-
I will come down on the Saturday morning and meet up with who ever is wherever lol. :)
I will have to get someone's mobile number so when I hit Hobart I can organize where to go. I will probably get lost cause I really don't know Hobart very well at all. But I will have my trusty GPS with me. :)
-
Mandi that is really exciting. I can't wait to meet you.
-
For the Adelaide fest I asked everyone for their mobile phone numbers and next of kin details. Perhaps someone can put their hand up to receive this information from us all for the Hobart fest. Unfortunately I haven't kept the details otherwise I would have almost everyone on the list.
-
Good on you Mandi . We wil catch up on Sat. Yahoo!
Gert

I'm happy to do it JD.
-
That's great that you are coming down Mandy. The Grand Chancellor hotel is really easy to get to. What time were you planning on arriving.
-
Thanks Jen. If everyone can pm their details to you, you can leave the list with someone else for the last day as you'll be leaving us early.
-
Thanks for posting photos Gert, exciting. We arrive in Tassie on the 8th and leave on the 29th October . We will tour around before the Forumfest and then enjoy the last of our holiday at the Grand Chancellor. Very excited to meet Mandi and Emme and Chookie.
Thanks for all the efforts with organising, ladies.
-
That's great that you are coming down Mandy. The Grand Chancellor hotel is really easy to get to. What time were you planning on arriving.
Not sure Jen, but It's a 2 hour drive from here, I can leave at 6am if I had too. But I think if I try for around 10am to get to Hobart.
-
Fantastic Mandy will be so nice meeting you.
Same witn Frank coming Uni after hearing so much about him will be great meeting him too. Where are we going dancing ;D?
-
Uni, Ral is coming and I am sure he would enjoy Frank's company as he has already met him.
I also am looking forward to catching up with members who I haven't met but feel I know already. ,!! ;D
-
Looking good & it will be great to catching up/meeting members I haven't met before hand.
Great work Jen
-
Jeninwa have you received all the money yet?
-
Jeninwa have you received all the money yet?
Alls good cookie, don't forget I need everyone's mobile number and next of kin please.
Thanks cookie, JD, Katie and Kmw for your details.
-
Lots of us will be in Hobart on the Sunday. What do we wish to do that day? Personally I would be more than happy having a walk around, have coffee and chat. However that is only me. Does anyone else have any thoughts on it please? (thanks jeninwa for pointing this out :-* :-* :-*)
This (http://www.viator.com/tours/Hobart/Hobart-Hop-on-Hop-off-Bus-Tour/d379-5010HOBART) is a thought. I have been on 'hop off, hop on 'tours before and they are usually quite good.
This (http://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Attractions-g255097-Activities-Hobart_Tasmania.html) site may be helpful in deciding.
-
That sounds good Cookie. A relaxing chatty day.
-
That sounds good Cookie. A relaxing chatty day.
Lordy knows we will have plenty to talk about!
Gert
-
I'm sure we will find something to do, even if it's to wander around our area or hop on that bus cookie.
-
That sounds good Cookie ;D
-
Its nice to be able to say I'm going on holidays next month :)
-
Hello, Judy just bought to my attention that I haven't confirmed my place for forumfest as yet.
Unfortunately I won't be able to attend this year. I will be watching (with green eyes) all the great things you get up to in your travels. It's a great opportunity for everyone that is attending to meet with or catch up with other forum members. :)
-
Sorry you can't make it Mich you will be missed.
-
My friend recently stayed at the grand chancellor, here's a couple of photo taken from her room.

Mmmm jeninwa I think I can cope with that. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Mich I am sorry you can't make it this year. :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
-
I do wish I was still staying. But a full day is better than none at all. :)

That looks lovely Jen, hope the sky is that colour when we are there.

Gert, kmw is coming to dinner on Saturday night. I make it 17 for dinner Saturday night. Has Thursday night's meal been booked anywhere yet?
kmw's posting from back a few pages
-
Must have missed it. Ok 17 it is. We are booked at a Tavern on the wharf for dinner Thursday night.they need only a near enough number I expect.

How far in advance do they want to be paid for the meal Gert. What date can you give them the final number, can you do that once we've all asembled in Hobart? Is this usual practice, having to give a credit card when booking?
One bill is fine for the meal or pay in advance on the night but a bit tricky with drinks. Menu is fine, my drink of choice is on the list so I'm happy with what's on offer.
-
We just need to confirm 48 hours in advance. No we don't have to pay in advance. I was offering that option to pay for the meal in advance and drinks on the night. I am happy to give my credit card details to guarantee payment and we can all pay cash on the night but only one bill. No problem. It is just that some people may want to pay their share by credit card and I am thinking they may not be able to. So cash up before Sat night. LOL!
I like the menu. Please let me know if it does not suit some? I think the wine prices are ok too. Not too big a markup at all for the Tassie wines. We do know you like your cocktails though Judy!
Gert
-
OK, all clear now. Cash is fine with me. Yes I do like the odd cocktail Gert LOL.
-
Or 2!
Gert
-
Sounds good Gert, cash is fine with me.
-
Sounds good Gert.
Thanks again for organising.
-
I'm a cash girl Gert, thanks from me tooooooooo.
-
Thanks Gert. Looks good. Cash fine. 2 x 3 courses. Happy with whatever arrangements made for drinks.
-
Thanks Gert, looks good. Happy with what ever arrangement for drinks, cash is fine, 1 - 3 course, No special dietary requirements.
-
I may struggle with 3 courses but I may as well try them all thanks Gert.
-
Email sent to Ruth.
"Thank you Ruth. Looks like 1900 would be a good time and most wanting the three courses.
So far no Funny Food//Vegans/Edenic/Hindu/I-tal/Fruitarian/Lacto-ovo vegetarian/Pescetarian/Kosher/Hallelujah or even Kangatarian dieters in our group.
This is understandable as we are all cooks whose common bond is our enthusiasm for our Thermomix and the Thermomix Forum where we met. We come from all over Australia and some have never met face to face before but we are all good friends looking for a great meal with good service. We dont whinge, whine or complain. We respect the chef and the food so bring it on.
One question from me, why is there no Tasmanian Sparkling Wine on the menu you sent? With so many luscious Tassie bubbles in the Coal Valley I would expect a Puddle Duck at least!
I have given you my credit card details to confirm the booking but rest assured we will be paying cash on the night.
Thank you for your interest and prompt reply.
Gretchen"
So excited as it is really happening.
Gert
-
Fantastic Gert
-
Have heard the Puddle duck wines are great. I believe there is one called Bubble duck but have not tried it !
-
Good one Gert, I hope they respond to your question.
-
Thanks Gert. I am sitting in the Model A, about 5km from our headquarters, by the side of the road with 2 other Model A's and the recovery trailer. No, we don't need it. One of the others needs it. Gosh after only 5 km too. Hopefully they get it fixed and we can move on. All the cars are doing a 90mile drive today. It will take us the entire day. ;D
(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/09/24/7aqu4yqa.jpg)
Ours is the last car in the line and it is my DJ with the fluoro jacket under the bonnet of the dead car.
-
Oh dear. They do look cute, hopefully all sorted and you are on your way. Have fun.
-
Great photo. What fun. Thanks Cookie.
-
Nice to see the action Cookie :D I hope they got the car going. Thanks for the photo :-*
-
We had to put the front car on to the rescue trailer and take it back. It is going today though.
-
That's good news Cookie.
-

I really don't know. I haven't touched it for a few weeks. Hope to get back into it soon, still so so much to do. But at least the frame work is all repaired and put back on the chassis. I do have a bed in it now, just no mattress.
-
(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/09/26/u4e5y6yz.jpg)
-
you're amazing, loved the play thingy for the birds, any sales ?
-
Yes I have several people interested. Just ordered some bird toys today so I can get into it. I do enjoy building things. I think the challenge is exciting.
-
Sorry I have been out of the loop for a while. Hopefully I have done all that I should have. If not please let me know. Thanks again to the organisers 8)
Wow dede you are amazing!

-
Just wondered if this would appeal to anyone for our free Sunday in Hobart
http://www.hobarthistoriccruises.com.au/
-
I am always up for a boat trip. A lunch cruise would be great. Good thinking JD>
Gert
-
Thanks Gert, lunch sounds good. You don't have to book apparently so it's something we could do if nothing else is suggested. I believe the chap that runs these trips also has a double decker bus which does city tours.
-
Sounds good Judy ;D
-
I enjoy river cruises too. It sounds like fun Judy.
-
Sounds perfect Judy, lunch would be great.
-
Sounds perfect to me 2 JD
-
It was a chance comment from a neighbour whose cruise ship called in there a couple of years back. They were only there for the day so this was a great option for them, they did the bus tour too. Glad you all think it's a good idea girls, maybe we could check it out once we all arrive. I don't think we are far from where all the boat trips leave.
-
It's about a 5 min walk to franklin wharf JD from the hotel.
-
Thanks Jen :-*
-
....if we are excited and sort of run we can do it in 3˝ minutes. ;D
-
....if we are excited and sort of run we can do it in 3˝ minutes. ;D
Are you kidding? If only! :D ;D In my dreams Cookie :D :D :D
-
If anyone cannot walk then we can pile into a taxi. No worries. If uni dances all night she may need a taxi.
Gert
-
Plus we may need to carry her LOL
-
Perhaps we could borrow a wheel barrow and pop her in. ;D
-
;D
-
Good one, Uni! There's you, Gert.... and who's the third? Ahh, it's Judy!! ;D ;D
-
I probably will look as old as that after a few days away with these party loving girls GF.
-
Lucky it isn't this week coming I wouldn't be up to it. ;D
-
You will be ok in a couple of weeks cookie.
Are you saying we are old as Judy!!
Uni looks like we will all be bringing our dancing shoes.
Gert
-
I will be fine, I rarely get ill. I think my immunity was down. Not long now.
-
Too many late nights cookie, now you're back to your normal routine you will come good pretty soon I would think. :-* :-*
-
I agree Judy and regular healthy food. Some evenings DH and I had toast for dinner, showered and went to bed. Next time I will take frozen meals. It won't be WA's turn for many, many years.
-
A relaxing holiday with good friends is your medicine Cookie...coming up.
-
I'm not sure about the relaxing bit, however I can sleep going over and coming back. I just had an email from another couple who were on the committee and they said they did lots of sleeping when they got home, at least we weren't' the only ones. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
I thought one of these might be handy for the forumfest girls. ;D
(http://i260.photobucket.com/albums/ii26/ragdoll128/bag_zps16429120.jpg) (http://s260.photobucket.com/user/ragdoll128/media/bag_zps16429120.jpg.html)
-
Do they come in Italian Leather for Gert. ;D
-
;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
OMG, what will they think of next :D :D
-
Great for JD's cask of Moscato.
Gert
-
A bit heavy to carry around Gert ;)
-
It won't be for long 😊😍😊
-
;D ;D ;D wish I was joining you girls for a laugh, maybe next year,
-
Love it Julie LOL
-
A "goon" bag.
-
not long now ;D
frank is booked will be there on friday night, anything happening that night ?
-
I think it will be dinner with Frank!
Grrt
-
Oh dear, I have forgotten to buy a gift card. Not a huge problem as I can get one here. Just confirming $50.00, is that right?
-
Yes Denise.
-
I have been chatting to Judy re the trip. I decided that to make it more realistic I would check my booking. Naturally it was fine but makes it seem even closer. I have selected a mountain view room, so I hope I can see Mt Wellington. Maybe it will snow like in Lithgow last night.
Looking at my flights I will spend 10 hours or so in the air, lose 3 hours, then regain it a couple of days later. 21 hour days are good to cope with, it is the 27 hour day returning home that is hard work.
Do you think I may be getting excited?
The lass I spoke to in Hobart this morning said it was sunny but cool.
-
Oh dear, I have forgotten to buy a gift card. Not a huge problem as I can get one here. Just confirming $50.00, is that right?
Question, do our partners need a gift card. .?
-
Chookie I think if they wish to participate why not?
On the topic of our gift cards. What if someone who doesn't drink tea collects a T2 card? Could/would we be able to make it so that when you have your dip for your card, you also have the opportunity to swap it with anyone who already has their card. You would only get this one chance. I have seen this done with gifts and it can be fun, and it also helps the person who wouldn't use their card. (unless someone swaps it from them later)
I remember this well as I ended up with a pair of socks at one Christmas party that no one wanted. However we got a lot of laughs from it.
Purely a thought.
-
It is hard for those from the west, it's a good thing you like reading Cookie. I must check my hotel booking too but that can wait until tomorrow. When I was talking about some taking their husbands, Geoff asked me why he wasn't coming with me :(
-
Sounds like a good idea cookie, as I am one of those that doesn't drink tea or coffee.
Not long now, we leave on Saturday,
-
Thanks. Will get 2 gift cards.
-
Sounds like a good idea cookie. You could be lucky and get an Amazon Card so you could buy books on your kindle! Or maybe a POK card to buy Christmas pressies for yourself.
-
I'm happy with being there.
Judy, that is really wonderful. I wish he could come. Perhaps we need to have Adelaide again take the forumfest to Geoff.
-
We should share it around cookie, Adelaide's had it's turn so I'm sure we will discuss where we think we should go next whilst we are in Hobart. I had suggested to Gert that capital cities should start bidding for the next one now LOL.
-
Well the weather is beautiful up here at this time of year.
Brisbane has the annual food festival in October.
Sydney has rain and storms!!
We could meet In The middle at Alice Springs!
Melbourne is always a fun city.
Gert
-
We're at George Town, just outside Launceston - the weather is cool here, but not freezing.
It would be lovely if Geoff could come along, but of course that would be impossible.
We've only bought one gift card, I didn't get one for DH, oops! Oh well we will have to share.
-
Enjoy your trip Katie. Don't worry about gift cards. All a bit of fun in any case. I am sure nobody is bothered.
Gert
-
Not bothered at all. :D
-
My task for today was to read all 43 pages of this post. I have now done it and I think I may know what is going on.
Jeninwa and DH I hope you have had a good trip over to Tassie.
-
We are in Ballarat tonight & getting the ferry across tomorrow night. It's great to be away 😄
-
Kerry I'm going to ask you all about the ferry ride as we hope to do it one day. We'll have the car and caravan though. Drive safely and I look forward to meeting you.
-
I'm feeling your excitement. Am looking forward to the photos
-
Hope the little one enjoys her holiday Kerry. 1 more sleep for me and my neighbour just popped over and offered to take me to the airport.
Have to unpack and repack today - I've got way too many clothes in that suitcase :-))
-
Update on the wine list of bubbles for dinner Sat night for those interested!
Good morning Gretchen

We also have a couple of bottles of the 2004 Arras at $99

Ruth Ghys-Hickman
-
A good variety there Gert although I am not familiar with all.
Getting excited now that I have had a few days at home ;D
-
Which one would you recommend girls? I guess I'll stick to my favourite, moscato, though.
-
I like the Janz and the 42degrees but I am sure they are all nice Judy.
Drink your favourite moscato and of course a couple of those 'naughty' named cocktails that you enjoyed in Adelaide. ;D
-
Wot goes on tour stays on tour. ROFLMAO! We do have photos!
-
We surely do LOL ;D
-
Did I do something I shouldn't have ???
-
Well, I unpacked and repacked. Guess what? I took out 1 top and put about 3 more in :-)) It all fits quite comfortably so what the heck and my carry on luggage will be empty before I leave so anything I buy, I will still have room for.
-
I know I will pack too much but I like to be covered for all contingencies.
I have just contacted Jenna at reservations@HGCHobart to add breakfast to my reservation. Dear kind Judy mentioned that it is $20 if on the reservation otherwise $29. I've heard back from Jenna and it has been added, no worries. May has well save a little, then I will have more spending money.
Just getting a little bit excited.
Judy I drink very little, but enjoy moscato too. Also rose.
-
And we can chat at breakfast ladies. I cannot believe eve you are taking 2 bags Judy.! I will just have my 7 kilo total carry on bag and that will include my coat! Thank goodness for kindle!
Gert
-
It is 16 in Hobart today. You think it is safe not to take boots?
Gert
-
Thanks Cookie. Just added breakfast too :)
Taking my boots. Don't like cold feet ;D
Eeek! It's getting close and there is still so much to be done.
-
I e made myself a list, but then what doesn't get done I don't really care much. I am leaving capable ( or so they tell me) adults behind. ;)
Last time DD and I went to Melbourne, as we landed in Perth we were told we couldn't bring cheese into WA. I have just checked with our local quarantine people and I can bring it in from Tasmania. I think I will pop a chill bag in, just in case. I adore Bruny Island cheese.
Blasted spell check.
-
I've packed 2 pairs of boots Gert !! I don't want to be cold.
I'm not going to the dining room for brekky.
-
Hopefully not to wear at the same time Judy. ;D
I will be packing 2 pairs of boot like shoes. Just in case one gets wet. Wearing comfy shoes on the plane. Must go and check the weather for Hobart.
-
I've packed 2 pairs of boots Gert !! I don't want to be cold.
I'm not going to the dining room for brekky.
Two pair Judy!!
Oh bugger I better pack 'em. I better wear them. I hate having excess.
You can come and have coffee and chat Judy. No need to buy breaky.
Gert
-
We are having a wonderful time in Tassie. It's been cool most days and was freezing at Cradle Mountain. We are in Strahan at the moment - today it was about 17 degrees, but yesterday it was much colder and raining heavily.
I'd definitively bring some warm clothes and boots along. It may be warmer in Hobart, but I'd pack some woollies just in case. Looking forward to seeing everyone soon.
-
Thanks Katie, it's hard to imagine cold now that we've had temps in the low 30's but I'm coming prepared.
-
We are in Strahan too.
It was 3.5C this morning but by 1pm it was 15C and beautiful and sunny. It snowed in cradle mountain last night.
I am wearing layers, started with 5 yesterday but took 3 off during our walk round Dove lake yesterday.
Katie we did the train to dubbil barril today.
-
Do we need to bring a trailer to the airport Judy :)
It was about 16 in Hobart, lovely sitting in the sun this afternoon, the breeze was a bit chilli.
Just checked the weather forecast 17 on Thursday and 22 on Friday.
-
Bedlem that is such an interesting area. And the train amazing. Katie you are having a ball eating at all the good places. Hope you both have pics to share.
Jenni you will need a trailer fer sure.
Gert
-
I am afraid i haven't been able to get any gift cards. I hope you all won't mind us not partaking in the lucky dip. Shopping is a little different here to what I am used to.
-
Denise you can just put some money into an envelope instead - it's still a gift and the recipient would have more options than a gift card.
My suitcase isn't huge Jen and I can nurse my carry on luggage.
-
Denise we are doing that train trip tomorrow. Today we did the Gordon River Cruise. We leave tomorrow for Huonville. Pity we didn't know you were here. Where did you eat? Last night we ate at Harmers bar & grill and tonight at Bushmans cafe.
We walked around Dove lake the day before you did by the sound of it!
There certainly isn't any shopping to be done here in Strahan. Some online stores do email vouchers (POK for example) or you could get something when you get to Hobart.
-
It was freezing this morning in ballarat but ended up being a nice day if out of the wind.
On boat having a relaxing wine now.
For us our little one wins hands down for the amount of luggage hence coming by car 😉
-
Enjoy Kerrie.
We have a unit and have stayed in for the evenings( knackered). You will love the cruise Katie.
I have booked the Bruny Island Gourmet food tour for the 27th, pick up at 7.10am. Looks fantastic and heard great reviews from a couple here in Strahen.
We have now booked the Giants Table at maydena for tomorrow night and then an extra night at the Grand Chancellor ( 22-29).
Can't print any vouchers, perhaps will at GCH.
-
It all sounds so exciting.
-
To all of you going to Tassie, or who are already there, I hope you have a memorable and wonderful weekend. I am very envious of you all and will look forward to seeing all the photos and hearing all the stories as the weekend unfolds. Maybe if the Fest rolls in to Melbourne one year I will be able to join you and meet you all.
Safe travels everyone.
-
Did I read that there were bush fires in Tassie today? Love a smallish island with snow and fires in the same weekend.
Have a fantastic time folks.
-
Have a wonderful time everyone.
-
Growing green with envy but wishing you all safe travels and a fabulous time in tassie. Post lots of pics please.
-
Thank you all. Only one day before I leave.
-
Not long now everyone. Not sure what time I will get to you all, but working on around 10-11am all going to plan :)
-
Hi Mandy cant wait to meet you :-*
-
Dede, are you driving? If so don't rush. We will wait. Looking for ward to meeting you also.
Going to remove 1/2 clothes from case so I can fit in some Oatlands flour.
-
Yes I'm driving, bit too far to walk :).
I'm actually looking at a car on Saturday morning as well in Hobart. I'm looking at selling my car to get something a little bigger.
I can't wait to meet you all as well :)
-
Not long to go, still have a lot to do. Haven't packed anything yet. Will catch up with you all Friday night
-
Emme, how are you coming down? Like you a lot to do before we leave. Had to clean out the Chook pen yesterday and forgot to stop the mail but one of our neighbours will cover this. Ral has been trying to print off our Boarding passes. We always get into a mess doing this.
Looking forward to catching up with you.
-

Melbourne would be a great destination, Marina, lots of shopping!
-
If Melb was considered, we would be happy to have forum Members here at Cherokee for lunch. Just a thought.

Last nights accomodation, the ponds have lots of platypus. We spotted about 5. Early night though as the power went off.
-

how does someone that can hardly move fall out of bed >:(
-
Oh no, hope he's ok Uni :(
-
Human intervention perhaps Uni. He should have side bars on the bed to prevent any falls. Geoff can't move but has them.
I hope he's OK, it's standard procedure to get the paramedics in after a fall so they were taking no chances by sending him to hospital.
-
Hope he is ok Uni.
-
the bed rails are always up JD, something just doesnt sound right with what they have told frank i am thinking that they may have forgotten to put the railings back up
-
I hope he is ok Uni and no bones broken.
-
That's terrible to hear, Uni. Hope everything is OK.
-
Oh dear Uni. Hope he is of.
I vote for Melbourne next year!
Gert
-
Hope FIL is ok Uni.
I vote for Melbourne too. Great shopping ;D
Going to remove 1/2 clothes from case so I can fit in some Oatlands flour.
I was going to do a Gert and bring only a carry-on case, but after reading Chookie's comment and checking a few websites, it might have to be the large suitcase complete with luggage scales ;D Just checked. I can bring 32 kg of luggage home 8) 8) 8)
One sleep to go!!!
-
You girls! My carroyon weighs 6.5 kilos which includes the bag of course, a coat, boots, undies and not much else. No bugger cares if I wear the same thing every day!
Gert

Gert
Gert, although we love you clothes, it is you we want to see. I have a small case, Ral has a big one.. I usually stuff his with what I have bought. !!
Uni, hope things are ok with FIL.
-
Chookie I have been trying to do my check in online and I'm having big trouble too. I may have to get DD to do it tonight for me.
I did think of carry on luggage only but I want to bring a warm coat that is waterproof, as well as a couple of other bits and pieces. So it is the smallest suitcase we have, which isn't very small. I figure if I bring a warm jacket, we won't need it. Because we use the van mainly we don't have much of a supply of suitcases.
Emme and dede and Gayle I can't wait to meet you all. It is very exciting.
MF I will see you at the airport tomorrow before take off.
I'm not really rushing to do very much at all. DH is quite capable. I just need to charge the kindle etc. I will pack this afternoon.
Uni I hope Frank's Dad is ok. MIL has fairly frequent falls. She can sort of walk a little bit though. She slid off a chair last week. Poor old chook.
-
Uni, I do hope Frank's dad is okay :-*
I am not bringing much either, can only manage 1 bag.
Chookie, catching bus out of town at 10 o'clock 1-1/2 hrs to get to the bus and then around 3 hrs to Hobart depending how many stops it makes ;D.
-
No fun getting old and frail, hope he is ok Uni.
-
I will have my Kindle charger with me cookie.
-
As you all make your way to the Apple Isle we wish you safe travels, lots of laughs, and lots of photo moments ;) ;) ;)
-
I believe there is a problem with checking in on line with QF at the moment.
-
Safe journey, everyone 😄
Looking forward to the photos 🎉🎈🎉
-
MF and I will wave as we fly over early tomorrow morning.
-
Franks dad is ok, he is back at the nursing home, only 5 stitches above hes eye
-
Good news Uni.
-
Poor Franks Dad, hopefully someone will keep a better eye on him.
We are checked in at the Grand Chancellor, very nice it is.(http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/10/21/4f9d612cc6aaeee6439b463788f84132.jpg)

Looking forward to seeing you all.

-
Good to know Frank's Dad is okay Uni.
Have fun girls :-* :-*
-
I have just managed to print my boarding passes for both stages of the trip. I am very proud of myself as DD usually does all that.
-
Well done cookie, just get here so we can start.
-
There was a system glitch this morning so everyone on QF can now print their boarding pass or have it sent to The Passport app on their iPhone or iPad.
All set.
Gert
-
Thanks Gert and here I was thinking it was me. See you tomorrow.
-
You girls! My carroyon weighs 6.5 kilos which includes the bag of course, a coat, boots, undies and not much else. No bugger cares if I wear the same thing every day!
Gert
Was that more than one pair of undies Gert?
-
RFLOL Mandi.
-
Mandi probably not, wear them the right way one day, turn them around, then inside out and start again..... four days.........

-
Oh no. I have obviously packed to many pairs of undies. :D :D :D
-
Uni glad to hear Frank's father is ok.
I packed no boots so either I buy new shoes for the dinner or have cold toes 😉
I had a lovely couple of days with my SIL parents. They are hosts that don' let you do anything or contribute so I think a Christmas gift basket thankyou will be in order.
Look forward to seeing everyone tomorrow night.
-
Oh Thursday night dinner - if someone can bump the details it would be much appreciated as I am on my phone
-
I've made a reservation for Thursday night at Tavern 42 Degrees South for 7 pm. Walking distance from our hotel. Everyone to pay for their own meal and drinks.
Bus for Friday is booked and paid for including lunch but not drinks, at Frogmore Creek winery. We are visiting another winery called Puddle Duck and Wicked Cheese for some sampling of there many cheeses. Then on to Richmond for afternoon tea and a wander around this historic village.
Bumping
-
See you all tomorrow ladies.
Thanks for bumping the info Jen.
Glad you managed to pack a pair of undies Gert or you may have felt a wee bit of a draught ;D
Love your photos Denise.
-
See you all soon. On the move now.
-
Have fun everyone :-* :-*
-
This forum is going to be very quiet for a couple of days without all of you ... until the photos and gossip starts coming!
-
Thanks Jen & see everyone tonight
-
Have a wonderful time everyone..
-
I'm anxious to get going now too. SIL works in their city store today so we are going into town on the train and he'll lead me to the bus station to catch the airport bus. I just hope I get there in plenty of time.
-
I'm up and on the move now. Dragged myself out of bed at 4.45am. Had breakfast and now to get dressed. It's not very often I beat the sun up by an hour.
See you all this afternoon. Travel safely.
-
You won't see this too often. Made it to Brisbane and in the lounge waiting for Melbourne flight. No bloody Champers at 0800. Can you imagine that!

Oh, the heartbreak, Gert!!! Never mind, I am sure you will make up for it later today.
This forum is going to be very quiet for a couple of days without all of you ... until the photos and gossip starts coming!
... I think I spoke too soon!
-
Flight from Melb, Jetstar, delayed by 1/2 hour. We stood in line to check in for nearly 1 hour. Never never never again travelling Junkstar.
Will be putting in a formal complaint.,
Maybe I am just impatient to get to Hobart!!
-
I'll beat you there Chookie, my flight leaves 11.10.
-
I'll beat you there Chookie, my flight leaves 11.10.
You sure will Judy. Now 1 hour delay.
-
Poor Gert, I'm sure you will make up for it.
Very quiet here today as everything is shut for show day. Myer opened at 11 and Harris Scarfe but the local shops shut. DH has a bit of work to do so managed to find a couple of things to buy.
My favourite silicon spatulas out for $2.95 in HS and a pair of shoes reduced for $129 to $20.30.
Going to have a read now and a cuppa.(http://tapatalk.imageshack.com/v2/14/10/22/3b72ee7297f0cf1919be70dc9e51717d.jpg)
-
Poor thing, I hope they at least had the decency to give you bubbles in the water!
Excellent shopping Bedlam - you deserve a cuppa after that ;D
Hope you can have a nap on the plane cookie - thats if you and MF aren't talking too much :-))
-
Wish you were here CP. X

Beautiful day. Room from our room. Staff very helpful. Nice to be here Jen met us all at Hobart airport.
-
I wonder if Uni's four confused posts have anything to do with the location of the first photo? Good to know that she has arrived safely!
-
We're here in Tassie too. Met a few of the girls in the foyer earlier.
Richard is in the gym (burning off some if the excess from our Tassie food tour!) and I'm stuck doing our laundry. Looking forward to dinner tonight.
-
Quite a few of us here after Jenny picked Uni, Gayle and myself up from the airport. It doesn't look like the Melbourne airport has made inroads into this morning's delays. Have been for a bit of a walk around the harbour, it's a pretty good day here - blue skies and sunny. Lovely hotel.

Loving the photos. Wow what a great time you are having.

Hi all my Thermomix friends who are only 2 hours drive away, and who I was so looking forward to meeting tomorrow. But unfortunately I have just come home from the hospital after a 5 hour wait with my 8 year old son who happen to injure his ankle at my 2 year old nieces birthday party. His poor ankle was so swollen that the X-rays didn't show the extent of the damage. Poor think is in a lot of pain. He has a back slab plaster on for the next week until we head back to the orthopedic clinic to have another X-ray.
So my trip to Hobart is not going to happen 😢😢😢😢
Please pass on my apologies to everyone. And have a drink for me (or two or three)
It's now 1.47am and I better get some sleep.
-
Sorry to hear that you are going to miss everyone at the Forum Fest Mandi.I'm sure everyone will be disappointed that you couldn't make if.I hope your DS will be okay and gets better soon.
-
Night all.
Miss you CC
Missing you all too Denise :'(

:( sorry to hear that Mandy I hope he get better soon :-*
-
That's bad news, Mandy. Hope your son's ankle is OK and nothing is broken. I know you will be sadly missed in Hobart.
-
Good morning Hobart.
And thank you all who made my 71st birthday so memorable and special. Your generosity, thoughts and messages are very much appreciated and humbling.
It was an amazing day spent with my forum family.

Last night I received this email from Ellis the waiter from t42,
"Hello to my favourite termomix team. Thanks for a fun night last night, was a pleasure serving you all! I hope you enjoyed Frogmore Creek and the rest of your trip in Hobart and surroundings. Don't cause to much trouble. Hope to see you all some other time! Ellis (t42 waiter)"
Gert truly by sea

Oh dear Mandi that does look sore. I hope
it is just a soft tissue injury!
See you soon 'not' . So sorry to miss you..
Gert
-
Great photo Gert of a beautiful morning in Hobart.
Happy Birthday for yesterday :-*
-
Dede, was so looking forward to catching up. So very sorry for the poor little man. Hope he is ok.
The waiter at t42 was most generous in how he responder to our fun. He also brought the main chef from the kitchen to talk to us. They have a TMX in the kitchen and he has one at home.
We are missing our TMX friends who would have liked to join us, including those OS.
The food at Frogmore Creek was amazing and would strongly recommend it to everyone it was imaginative and served with flourished.
Ral and I have travelled with many groups , but never with a group so determined to have fun and enjoy each other's company. The generosity of spirit that is characteristic of the Forum is alive and well here in Hobart.
Michel, Thankyou for your good thoughts.
Salamanca market this morning and Celebration Dinner at Hotel tonight. , !
-
Great photos everyone, it looks and sounds like you having a wonderful time. Hobart is such a beautiful city.
Gert happy birthday for yesterday. How lovely of the waiter to send the email, you must have all been a pleasure to have in the restaurant.
Mandi, so sorry to hear about your sons ankle, it looks like it would be very painful.
-
Thanks wonder and CC. It was supposed to be kept quiet by Judy but obviously she cannot be trusted! ;D
CC you are being talked about and missed as are other members who would have loved to be here and are unable to join the fun and it has been such fun.
I do believe that we have all decided that Melbourne will be the next venue for our Forum Fest so start saving and planning. Mate the for our 5th Sydney!!
Thinking caps on for a great day trip and hopefully we will require a big bus. Victoria markets anyone? Shopping anyone? Maybe a play or concert? Anyone in the hotel business.
Gert
-
Very happy birthday wishes, Gert, so glad you had a special day yesterday.
So sorry I couldn't be down there with you, but off to Hervey Bay next weekend and couldn't take two weekends in succession off.
Enjoy your day today, everyone
-
Oh sounds such fun. Very many happy returns of the day Gert, I am so glad you are having a special and fun time!
Tassie looks great too. ;D
-
Gert Happy Birthday for yesterday, hope you enjoyed it, :) :)
-
So sorry you aren't able to get here Mandi, I was looking forward to meeting you. I hope you have had a reasonable night with your poor son( he must be in a lot of pain) and wish him a speedy recovery.
How very sweet of our favourite waiter.
It certainly was a wonderful day yesterday and a lovely way to celebrate a birthday
-
So sorry to hear that you won't be joining us today dede, will have a drink or two for you I'm sure. Hoping your son gets better soon.
So nice of our favorite waiter to send an email. The service last night was very disappointing we waited over an hour for our meal, and it wasn't that busy.
-
Good morning fellow thermofesters, 8 hrs sleep last night in spite of hearing a band somewhere. Last night we did eat eventually, they set up a bigger table for us in the atrium. I was expecting the Indian food eaters to be back before we finished our meal but now I see the reason you weren't. I hope the meal was worth waiting for.
Mandi, sorry to hear about your poor son. I do hope that swelling goes down soon and that he's not done too much damage there. Thanks for letting us know, we were all looking forward to meeting you.
Yesterday Marie joined us and later in the evening Uni's husband Frank arrived so expect to see some photos today.
Gert had a wonderful birthday, I lost count of the number of times we sang happy birthday to her LOL. How lovely was the email from Ellis, I think he had as much fun as we did.
Looking forward to another long day in Hobart.
-
My alarm just woke me at 7.30. I think the body clock is still on Perth time. We had such a wonderful day yesterday. Full of fun but relaxing at the same time. I am kicking myself for missing the Christmas shop in Richmond. Probably saved lots of $$$$$$.
My first thought this morning ( other than how to turn the alarm on the iPad off) was Salamanca Markets. ;D ;D
Our meal last night was lovely, ( thanks D & E). Just a little slow in coming.
Dede there is no way you can leave your poor son. His ankle looks very painful. We will think of you. It was lovely to have Marie join us and she is just as gorgeous as I thought.
Even though I have to make it, I am sitting in bed with morning morning cuppa, looking at the mountain. Beautiful.
-
That's a big, dark cloud over the mountain this morning cookie and quite different from the photo Gert posted this morning from the front side of the hotel.
-
Mandi that's terrible news, I'm sorry you aren't able to come and that we won't meet you. I hope your sons ankle heals quickly.
We had a good night sleep too, we could hear that music as well. Richard and I did our own thing last night and we went to a place called Kebab Rehab. Richard loves yiros (which is what kebabs are called in Adelaide) and he rated the ones we had last night highly.
We are headed to Salamanca markets now for breakfast. See you all later.
-
Happy birthday , for yesterday Gert, Glad you all seem to be having a wonderful time. Love Salamanca market.
-
I'm so glad you had a lovely birthday Gretch, and how nice to be surrounded by such gorgeous happy people. Sounds like everyone is having a great time and we're getting a taste of it when we see your photos. The view over the harbour looks very pretty. and I'm sure the mountain vista on the other side is just as nice. Does Hobart have the feel of a country town? Poor Dede, these things are meant to try us. Personally I'd leave him with the radiographer and go jump in the car :-*

OMG that first photo was a little frightening. The waratahs are beautiful. I loved the markets. So much Tassy Stuff there instead of junk.
-
Bought the most amazing cheese at the Salamanka Market from the Bruny Island Cheese Company. It is a soft cheese Brie, I think , wrapped in prosciutto. You pop it into a hot oven until the prosciutto crisps up and the Cheese goes gooey. Don't know why I bought itas we are here for another day. Maybe when we get to Oatlands I can give it a go.
Just love the Salamanca markets. Never stop getting a real buzz when there.

Lovely photos. Makes me sad but at the same time happy your all having a great visit. Been a nice day down this way today too. Thomas is getting a little better with his crutches but still worried me as he nearly falls often. He has been laying around most of the day playing in the iPad. I have rang work and have at least the next 4 days off as I can't imagine Thomas going to school for a few days until he is really stead on the crutches. :)
Keep the photos coming :)
-
Take care Mandi, hope Thomas recovers soon. :)

Fantastic photos ladies, there a few unfamiliar faces
-
Gert thanks for all the fantastic photos. You have made us all lovely.
Uni you are a wonderful photo bomber.
-
Tonight before dinner we all met in the foyer (Gert has posted the photos) to swap gift cards and distribute some gifts Helene of Superkitchenmachine sent over for our forumfest attendees. We thank you Helene for your generosity, we had fun sharing the spoils.
I must also thank another of our forum members who so kindly sent a donation down which provided our bottles of wine for this evening's meal. To you we send our most grateful thanks and a big group hug.
I see Prue from the bar has joined the forum tonight, welcome to you Prue. Hop over to the introduce yourself section so that we can officially welcome you then fire those questions at us so that you can start putting your TMX to good use.
-
We all had a wonderful night. Thanks Helene and the wonderful generous forum member for your lovely gifts, they were certainly appreciated.
I'm in bed waiting for Richard, who is down in the bar drinking with Jen's DH. Hopefully he is coming up soon, as I'd like to go to sleep.
-
You may have a long wait Katie but hopefully not ;D
We have all had a fantastic weekend so far and still another full day ahead.
-
We have had a terrific Forumfest yet again.
Thank you Helene for all the wonderful gifts and a nameless "very" generous forum friend for the champagne at dinner. Everybody has been so generous.
I hope the wonderful photos Gert has posted will encourage more to start saving their gold coins for next years destination (Maybe Melbourne), you wouldn't be disappointed.
-
Looks like the forumfests get better and better.
Good food and company and friendship, the important things in life.
Safe trips home everyone. Can't remember if you have another day.
Xx
Edited for typo!
-
DJ, so true DJ, it does get better as we know each other better. So many genuine generous people.
We are going on a historical lunch time boat cruise today and DH and I are hoping for a walk around Battery point.
Thinking of you often X
-
Thanks bedlam ;D
-
Well what can I say, a fantastic & wonderful group. Many thanks Helene for your generous gifts and to the wonderful forum member ( you know who you are) a very big thank you for gifting us the champagne. Will post some photos when I get home as my iPad is not cooperating very well. Dede so sorry you could not attend you certainly did miss meeting a most wonderful, and the friendliest group you could ever wish to meet. Do hope DS ankle is getting better. Looks like a wet day ahead. Oh well if we run out of things to do we can always start re-arranging the funiture . Personally I think it looks much better the way we do it. Cheers for now
-
Yes Emme we could certainly do a better job with the chairs in the lobby and I would toss the red cushions!
Many thanks Helene. That was great fun.
And another thanks goes to our absent friend for adding to the frivolity by way of the wine. It was sampled with gusto.
What an eclectic bunch we are. Old friends, new friends and now long time friends.
Gert
-
Helene, thanks again for your generous gifts. Maybe you could join us one year. You would fit in very well and be most welcome. Thanks , generous friend for the bubbles at Dinner. You have again added to our fun. Maybe next year you also will join us in person. We would very much like that. Your DH would also be welcome and would enjoy the company of the other DH who attended.
Last day for most of us today. :-\
-
A wee bit wet this morning but still beautiful.
-
Gosh you are all up very early. I had trouble waking up at 7.30. I may need a SCAN this afternoon but it seems silly to waste precious time. ( SCAN= Senior Citizen afternoon nap).
Another thank you to Helene and our very own secret Santa for last nights bubbles. It was a lovely evening.
Several of us have been in trouble with the furniture. At least we will be remembered.
Prue is a very lovely young lady who has a tmx31 and has now joined the forum. Prue, you won't regret it. The recipes on here are tried and true.
Marie, thank you so much for making quite a super effort to come down to Hobart. You are indeed one of us. Mandi circumstances prevented us all meeting you but I feel that I know you. I do hope your son improves rapidly.
Things get a little emotive here today, tomorrow and last night we had to say goodbye to kmw and her lovely family. Thanks kmw you and your family a lovely people and it has been a pleasure meeting you.
-
The view from the mountain side. No Mt Wellington this morning.

My river view is wet too.

-
Many thanks to our generous forum friend for our bubbles last night and Helene for the lovely gifts.
I've had the best time, met some wonderful people, renewed old friendship and laughed so much, thank you all for making this such a great weekend sad that we are leaving today.
-
What time are you leaving Jenny, I might not be able to stay in bed as long as I intended if you are off too early. It was lovely to finally meet you and thanks for everything. I've certainly noticed you've been thoroughly enjoying yourself and it was lovely that Steve could spend some time with us as well.
Is the rain going to hang around all day?
-
I think we will be having a late breakfast, so it won't be an early departure JD. Richard and Steve were enjoying each other's company last night and stayed up quite late.
-
looks great photos, glad you all had a great time. :)
-
Ha ha, I noticed you and Katie were on the forum very late last night so I figured the naughty boys had still not come upstairs. Wasn't it wonderful to see how well the boys got on, they were having their own little party at the end of the table. I hope there are no sore heads amongst them this morning.
-
This morning we have a lovely big table for breakfast. However there are only 2 of us here at the moment.
-
Oh that would be right!
I guess they got it eventually.
Very good service this morning at breakfast and lovely sitting together . Even nicer not being in trouble for moving the furniture!
-
That's not surprising cookie LOL.
I've added more names to photos this morning, everyone should now be identifyable for those back home.
-
No sore heads here this morning.
Richard eventually came up to the room - but only after I rang his phone and had a quiet word to him!
-
We will join you when eventually DH gets moving!
I've read the forum( twice), the paper had two cups of tea and a shower....waiting.waiting..waiting!
-
LOL Katie, time gets away from you when you're having fun.
Go down to brekky Denise, Evan can then take his time getting ready.

Everyone,
I hope you all had a great time it certainly sounds and reads as though you all did. Maybe next year, if possible I could attend with MrsRC. No MrsRC2B as we should be well and truly married by then :-)
Enjoy the rest of the weekend everyone.

On board MV Thermomix ready for a lunch cruise.
-
I second the words said about the Hobart Forum Fest. It's been great & thanks to all that helped entertain Alayna, she thoroughly enjoyed herself. On the walk back to the apartment she kept asking was she going to her bed 😄 & she slept in. We were both up before her.
Currently driving through drizzle on the way to Bicheno.
-
We're enjoying our "cruise". (http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/10/26/3y8evesu.jpg)
-
Not nice weather for the cruise, it's been raining steadily all morning. I'm sure you are all still enjoying yourself.
Richard and I went on the Cascade a Brewery tour, unfortunately a lot if it was outside and we got wet. Having lunch now at "Burger a Got Soul". I Couldn't eat all mine.
-
They are ginormous. But look warm and tasty.
-
The cruise was well worth doing, even on a wet day, we all enjoyed ourselves and were surprised at the lovely meal (and choices available) that was included in our fare. They won more points for having Moscato on the wine list !
Nice looking burger Katie.
Rain everywhere by the sounds of it Kerry, nice to hear Alayna slept in, she must have been so tired. It was so nice you could all join us.
-
I disagree with Evan, looks as good as a Ferg Burger Katie.
Thanks Judy for finding the cruise it cost $35. For about 11/2 hours with a meal of coral trout that was cooked to perfection. I would most definitely recommend it. DH had vegetarian patties for $30.00
-
I only paid $30 Denise!? I had a huge chicken fillet with gravy, a potato and salad.
-
:( I missed the lunch cruise . What's the plan for tonight?
-
Glad to hear everyone enjoyed the cruise. Sounds like good value.
We ran into Denise & Evan in the lift Uni, and they mentioned everyone is meeting downstairs at 6pm tonight (I think for dinner here).
Richard is having a nap, I could probably do with one myself.
-
Thanks Katie, frank is napping too. Cya soon
-
I'm going downstairs to see if anyone wants company.
-
I'm thinking of napping too.
-
The cruise on the little intimate boat was lovely. Only 16! on board . The meal choices included a steak,, vegetable burger, chicken and today instead of Atlantic Salmon there was Ocean Trout which is also a pink fleshed fish similiar to Atlantic Salmon. The fish was an extra $5 and well worth it being beautifully cooked by their on board chef. There was salad and boiled potatoes to go with it. Wines served by the glass at a very reasonable price. Thank you Judy. Also available was beer. Cider and soft drinks. Altogether delightful.
Gert
-
Kerry, so pleased you all had a bit of a sleep in.
We opted out of Cruise which does sound lovely. We headed for Salamanca Place and spent time in the arty shops and book shops. Had beautiful light lunch at Smolt. Outstanding in house made bread. Had a talk to chef about their bread. Served with reduced Balsamic and good olive oil.
We enjoyed walking in the rain, really heavy mist. Now for packing and a sit down before catching up at 6.

Bread at Smolt
(http://img.tapatalk.com/d/14/10/26/upate3e2.jpg)
Chocolate mouse cake coated in roasted coconut. Doesn't look brilliant but tasted Devine and could be made in TMX.
-
Glad to hear everyone enjoyed the cruise, we spent the afternoon with family and are now at the airport, waiting for our flight.
-
Have a good flight Jeninwa and DH. It has been lovely.
I have sort of packed my bag and in a first for me it has fitted very easily as I haven't been hitting the shops in an enormous way. It's mainly full of washing. :D
-
Have a good flight home Jen. It was lovely catching up and meeting your DH.
What a lovely weekend we have had ;D
-
Safe travels Jen and Steve, it was lovely meeting you both.
I have had my first nana nap of our 3 weeks away. Still onwards and upwards....getting ready for a few more bubbles (after a quick cuppa)
Glad you had a lovely morning Chookie and Ral, the food certainly looked good.
-
I'm glad the family got to see a bit more of you before you leave Jenny, thanks for everything and have a good trip home.
Everyone gathering downstairs again now for our last dinner together.

😢😢😢 wish I was still there with you all. Have a lovely dinner together.

I know how you feel Jeninwa. I have just said goodbye to everyone. I'm sure the next 12 months will fly though.
Take care.
Thanks everyone for a fantastic few days. I was a little hesitant as it is the first time for a great number of years that I have travelled alone. However, having such super duper friends it is no trouble.
See you all next year. Boo hoo. :'( :'( :'(. :-* :-* :-*
-
It was a great fest, thanks to all those involved. Thanks also to the husbands who came along this year, they all got along so well and were no trouble all LOL. You have totally exhausted me and I'm about to have the earliest night for many a day. Good night dear friends xxx

Sleep tight Judy. Don't let the bed bugs bite.

. We did it Gert , well just becauseI
I will drink to what you wrote Gert, in fact after this weekend I will drink to anything. Farewell everyone, safe travels, thank you for a memorable weekend. Will think of it often with fondest memories of the most wonderful people and it happened all because of our love for a thermomix.
Take care, time for a shower. I think the hotel staff will be quite relieved to see the back of us. Do you think we should leave them a bill for our furniture removal efforts?? Will post some pics when I get home
-
Thanks to all for a fantastic 4 days. The true spirit of the Forum is alive and well. Safe travels to everyone. We have a further 7 nights in Tassie. We are headed to Oatlands today to visit the historic flour mill.
-
It is going to be a very different Grand Chancellor Hotel when we return from our Bruny Island gourmet food trail today.
I encourage anyone thinking of joining next years in Melbourne to just do it. It took a lot of courage for me to join last year in Adelaide but have no fear, they are a generous, welcoming group. You will have no regrets and it will add even more dimension to our delightful forum.
Safe travels to you all, it has been a pleasure to have spent the time with you and to have met Emme ,Chookie,Ral and Frank. Thank you to everyone.
-
What more can I say than to say ditto to all the above. I saw Denise, Evan and Marie at breakfast this morning, early! I am about to leave for the airport. Thank you all for a wonderful long weekend.
I agree re the bill for furniture removal Marie. I think the GC did pretty well out of us this last few days. They probably had to bring in extra stock of bubbles.
Take care everyone. Xx
-
Sitting in lounge at Melbourne Airport whic is now closed according to recent announcement. Lots of lightening about and bucketing down..planes landing but nothing going.
Thank you Emme. You fishing friends have been a lifesaver.!
Gert
-
Safe trip everyone. It's bucketing down here too, was going to go for a drive & do the Penguins tour tonight so we see how we go.
-
Baggage handlers are now loading and unloading so there may be some movement soon.
-
The weather in Melbourne is really bad this morning so good luck to anyone who has to fly through as I'm sure there will be delays. Safe travels everyone.
-
lol! Opened and now shut again. What a mess out there.
Gert
-
It's rare for Melbourne's weather to be like it is this morning. All you can do is sit back and relax, no point in getting stressed as you can do nothing to change anything until the weather clears. Hope all flights go smoothly once they start taking off again.
-
Weather update:
9:00am: Updating the weather now and Robyn Grace reports storms are easing over Melbourne despite heavy rain currently falling in the city. Senior forecaster Stephen King said at 9am the line of storms now stretched from Mornington up to Bendigo, but people could expect a rapid improvement over the next hour. Were seeing the back edge of it coming through now, he said. Melbourne has so far recorded 22 millimetres of rain.

Some flights boarding now. Worker bees loading planes.
Gert
-
I'm at the Hobart airport and no planes are coming in. My plane is delayed by at least an hour as it can't get out of Melbourne. I sincerely hope it isn't delayed anymore as I won't make my connecting flight home. What a nuisance. I should have come with you Gert and at least I could have got out of Melbourne when it cleared. Hopefully I an sprint from one to the other. I certainly don't want to get struck by lightning.
-
What a pity for all of those travelling back home today, maybe it will have cleared by the time our flight leaves Hobart at 1pm Gert.
Just had my first dining room breakfast with Chookie, Ral, Norma & Gayle, very nice.
-
They are working o the backlog. On board now. But won't probably depart for a few minutes yet as the planes are lined up at the runway.
Gert
-
You're on your way Gert. Enjoy.
-
Not quite. Still sitting in bay with about 15 ahead of us.
Toddler screaming non stop as he does not like to be strapped in . Hostess distraught. People being asked to be moved and chaos reigns. I can reach him with my handbag which is quite heavy.
Gert

Oh no Uni!
Judy, Richard and I are at the airport now. Not sure if/or how long our flight is delayed.

LOVE THIS PHOTO
It's a great photo, is it before or after the river cruise?
-
not sure i wasnt there :( , I pinched the photo from Bedlam that she posted on FB, sorry BL
-
It was after the river cruise ladies ;D Glad you posted it Uni as its amusing.
Stuck here in Hobart airport as incoming flights from Melbourne are delayed. Gayle left an hour ago and Cookie a little while before her. My flight to Melbourne now not leaving for another hour and 15 mins which will give me 25 mins before my flight to Perth is due to depart. So boring sitting here alone as Gayle and I arrived here at the airport at 10am!!!!!
-
I am now in Melbourne. Hopefully my changed flight will leave in about 40 minutes. I now have Krispy Creme yuck nuts in with my cheese.
-
Wish I was in Melbourne cookie but still sitting on the same seat in the lounge >:(
Enjoy your Krispy Creme or are they for DD and DH?
-
Another delay so I will now miss my connecting flight to Perth which means I won't arrive in perth until 8.10pm.
Not Happy >:(
-
>:( who are u flying with are the delays because of the weather ?
-
Yes Uni because of the weather in Melbourne. So boring sitting here by myself. Gayle wasn't affected as she was going to Sydney.
Will now have a glass of something!!! How's Eve?
-
maybe have 2 of something ;D
havent seen her, she at daycare :( i have her all day tomorrow ;D
-
2 sounds good ;D
Enjoy your day with Eve tomorrow.
I don't have any of mine tomorrow but a few on Wednesday.
-
Feel for you MF. Awful.
-
Thanks Chookie its been such a long day. Just arrived in Melbourne and delayed again so I am not happy at all.
Extremely annoyed as the checkin girl at Hobart refused to put me on the earlier flight to Melbourne that cookie was on which left at 11.30which would have avoided the 2 hour extra delay in Hobart and now the 2 hour delay here!!! She was very rude and I will be writing a letter of complaint. I won't get home now u til around 10pm Perth time which will be 1am in Hobart. >:(
-
I feel really bad for you, MF after such a great time in Hobart this had to happen. I know exactly what you are going through, but, if possible, try not to get too stressed out, you have done all you can and sitting and fuming will not help ... instead, relax, reminisce about the good time you had at the weekend and you might feel better (that fourth glass of wine should help as well ;).
-
Very true Marina as its totally out of my control. That glass of wine will be very welcome.
It was such a great weekend and I refuse to let Qantas spoil it for me. They can't control the weather but the girl in Hobart could have been more pleasant and as there was room on the earlier flight she could easily have put me on it. That's what is annoying me more than anything.
Rant over now and going to have a glass of SB ;D
-
:'( i feel for u love :-*
-
I am back home and so sorry to hear of your travel problems MF. Do hope you have no further issues and arrive home safely. Have another drink for me please, I am sure it will make me feel much better for you. ;D
Chookie, what was the name of that recipe book please. I have been trying to think of it all the way back on the bus. Something sweet of sweet something. I am hopeless ??? ???
Thinking of everyone and hoping you are all okay.
-
How frustrating Norma, have another glass of ...
-
Glad you are home safe Marie.
Having my glass of now Denise and just thinking by the time I get home I could have flown to Paris or Rome!!!!
Such is life. Hope you all have a lovely evening and thank you all for making the weekend so much fun. ;D
Will miss everyone and will think of Uni photo bomber every time I take a photo ;D
Denise how was your trip? I hope you both enjoyed it :D
-
Oh MF how frustrating, it will be a long day for you.
We had small delays in Hobart and Melbourne, but have made it home safely. We travelled with Judy and all caught a cab back to our place. Richard is taking Judy home now.
What a wonderful time we've had, with such amazing and generous people. Thank you to everyone that came and made the trip so special.
-
Glad you are all home safely....and Thankyou.
-
Glad to hear that you Judy and Richard arrived home safely Katie and only experienced minor delays.
It was great catching up with everyone and looking forward to the next forum fest ;D
Relaxing in the lounge InSydney now and will take a taxi home to save DH coming to pick me up.
-
I imagine a nicer lounge than Hobart MF. A shame to finish such a wonderful weekend like that. Just try and enjoy the bubbles
-
Sorry to hear about your delays MF. A long way from home still - do you have some reading to do while you wait?
I love people watching (and luggage watching - luggage envy really) too when I'm at the airport. Hope it's smooth flying from now. :)
-
Yes Melbourne lounge is nice Denise and much larger than Hobart. You will like it although Hobart was ok just quite small. Much more relaxed now but can't wait to get home.
These things happen Michele but thankfully not too often. It's just worse when you are alone but iPads make a huge difference.
Hope you are well and a shame you didn't make it to Hobart as it was so much fun ;D
-
Emme, book called Sweet Envy, by Alistaire Wise.
We are now installed in a small cottage, 140 years old. Has modern fit out. But Oh so tiny.
-
Sounds gorgeous Chookie I hope you enjoy it. ;D
-
Sorry to hear of your delay home MF.
Enjoy your tiny cottage Chookie ;D
-
Glad you all had a great weekend ;D
hope you are all home now, safe and sound.
Have another glass MF, you need it.
I can't wait for next year to meet heaps of you. :D :D
Enjoy the cottage chookie
-
Only a little late back to Sydney. Came back to high winds, high temperatures and heavy traffic. Picked up DS from school, did a quick shop and have just got home from yoga. I swear I was sweating champagne during the yoga class ;D
What an amazing weekend with a bunch of wonderful people. It was so much fun. Can't wait to see you all again in Melbourne 2015 ;D
To those lucky people on extended trips in Tassie, looking forward to hearing about your travels. Hope those returning home are either home safe or nearly home safe.
She certainly was extremely rude MF. Let me know if you need anything for your letter.
-
Glad you are home safe and sound djinni - boy you have certainly fitted in a lot since you arrived back :)
-
Hi all,
Looks like you all had such fun. Seeing all these lovely photos and posts make me so jealous. One day I shall attend one of these great Fests.
These events are a true reflection of what our forum is all about. Friendship, fun, help and learning from each other.
I hope you all had a safe trip back. Roll on 2015. Life flies, so start preparing... LOL
All the best to all you wonderful members
MM
-
Thanks MM, maybe one year we will come and visit you
-
I agree with MM that these fests are a true indication of the forum friendships and support for one another.
Some of us are not able to go and the festivities are generously shared with all of us.
Thank you to all the photographers and posters who keep us all included.
It was fun even from afar!
-
I have just arrived home. It is 5.45 here and 8.45 Hobart time. I had a good flight from Melbourne and appreciate the fact that Qantas managed to get me on a flight home when I missed my connecting flight.
-
Glad you're home safe and sound Cookie - I bet DH and DD are pleased to see you home. :D
-
Ral and I are more than pleased to hear that everyone is eventually getting home safe.
I will post about our holiday in the holiday thread.
-
I've only just sat down to relax with some crackers and cheese and a cuppa - no wine in sight LOL. I had to visit Mum as I found out she has gout when I phoned her from Melbourne, 91 and gout for the first time! Spent quite a while with her then came back home to unpack, now catching up on the forum and in particular wanting to see how everyone got on with the delays.
As Katie said, we were very lucky with our flights but poor you MF, your situation is terrible and I do hope you've found someone to talk to at least.
Gayle, how you hit the ground running is beyond me. I'm going to be easing myself back into my previous life, you guys wore me out!!
After our spacious hotel Chookie, I can understand your cottage would be very small but I'm sure you will get used to it.
Those staying in Tassie, enjoy the rest of your stay and to every single one of you, thanks for a wonderful few days - you're a great bunch of ladies (and gentlemen). It is a privilege to know you.
-
MM must be coming to Melbourne as he's posted on Facebook: C U in 2015 (holding you to it :))
-
Good to hear the travelers are home safe and sound although a little weary ;)
Everyone remaining in Tasmania enjoy the rest of your stay.I'll be watching in the holiday thread to see what you are doing. ;D
-
Did say I would post some pics so here are a couple. Couldn't get it to work in Hobart. Pics taken on the Sunday night and I think by now everyone will know who they are. So glad most are home safely by now and Gayle I don't know where you get your energy from. -
Thanks Marie. Once I got on my flight to Perth I simply fell asleep.
-
Here is my story.
I was getting progressively worse since Sat and now I am really ill. Went to doctor. Heavy Duty anti idiotics. Can't breath can,t swollow, can't hear. I have to go somewhere as my cleaner coming. Don't wanna go anywhere.
The hosties had to carry that brat kid around. The yummy mummy just lost the plot and said he was always like that. Every time they gave the kid back he screamed blue murder. It was about 2.5 I figure. Not a baby. Even some passengers took him. I had mother and 4 year old beside me. In front of them were father and 2 year old . If they passed the kids once they passed them 50 times. No seat belts on them and I had to get up from my seat at least 20 times as they switched seats. When I got off the plane I vomited into several napkins I snaffled from the galley on the way out the door. In all my life it was the most horrendous trip ever. The brat kid refused to have a seat belt and the mother said he did not like to be confined. She needs to be confined in the bad mother's home. She managed to touch up her makeup every five minutes which was good .
I had a ball. I still cannot believe how spoiled I was. It is a shock and a real surprise to think that something about me is valued by some. I was really humbled and grateful to know that.
As soon as My cleaner goes I am back in bed. I am even cancelling my nail appointment for tomorrow so you know I must be bad eh?
Glad everyone got home eventually. MFnyou probably had a ticket that did not allow late flight changes without a hefty fee if at all. Standard practice. The rudeness not so much. Some of the check in staff is not employed vy QF as are the cabin crew and are outsourced in some places. That would have been sooooooo frustrating to see that plane go without you. Never again will I get a direct flight. At least if I had gone the long way In would not have had to put up with that mother and child for more than an hour or two.
Love ya long time!
Gretchen
-
Gert stay with that bed. That bug is a nasty one.
Of course we love you. What is there not to love? ;D :D
That mother sounds like she needs committing. A pity the hosties didn't have a tranquilliser they could have given him.
I had a less than one year old near me over to Melbourne. They would miss their flight as they were on the same one as me. They were then flying to Newman home to Dad and hubby. The little one fell asleep and so did the young Mum. I so admired her flying to Hobart from Newman in the north of WA by herself.
Take care Gert.
-
Gert, that's terribly that you're so ill. You hid it well, I would never have known. The flight from hell and you had to be on it, everyone must have been so happy to get off that plane. Rest up until you feel much better and I hope that will be really soon. You're an integral part of the fest groups, it wouldn't be the same without you, of course we love you. xxxx
-
Sorry to hear you are so sick Gert and that you had to put up with all that on top of not feeling well. Talk about a flight from hell. Please look after yourself and get plenty of rest. xx
-
Oh Gert that is simply awful. Being so ill and having to put up with that family. Ral and I were just saying this morning that we wondered how you were going. Not even a chance to " spit the Dummy".
You add that special bit of spice to the Forum. Of course we love you. You are family.
We are freezing cold, rain and wind. And now it is snowing. Warm in our little cottage as we have all the heaters on. Did the tour of Oatlands Mill this morning. Beautiful organic stone ground flour. Worth staying in the lack lustre town just to see the mill. Pub the only place to eat. Bought bread, tomato soup to have with cheese. Off to Strahan tomorrow.

Sounds perfect chookie.
I spewed up while I was walking from the plNe to the gate lounge one handed. Did good I thought. Very smooth. I doubt anyone noticed. Was looking for that kid so I could have dropped the lot on his head. The thing is he was perfectly well, behaved with everyone else. He was not stupid just hated his mother. ;D ;D
Gert
-
Just having a bit of lunch, well. MOre like a glaas of wine ( nothing stops me) at Yorkeys knob Yacht Club. Can't go home as today is the day that Maria likes to wash the screen doors and windows. Would you?? LOL!
Gert
-
Gert, you are a wonderful character. Enjoy lunch.
-
Of course we love you Gert.
Thank god that flight is over now rest and recover. Xx
-
Look after your self Gert and get plenty of rest, enjoy your lunch, sounds like the flight from hell, sorry you had to put up with it for hours.
-
Take care of yourself Gert :-* :-*
I will never forget that you flew down from Cairns to meet Bev and I at the Sydney lunch last year.Only a true friend does that :-*
-
No CC you and Bev are the true friends. I would have loved to stay longer to get to know everyone else as well.
You would have been proud of me Jenni doing the one handed spew.
Tucked up in bed now with tea and drugs.
Gert
-
Take care Gert. Tomorrow is another day and hopefully you will be on the mend.
Tea and drugs are GOOD.
-
Gert take care and rest as much as you can. What a horrendous flight. Makes my delays seem so trivial.
We love you dear friend and hope you feel well soon. :D
-
Uni & Gert I hope you are both feeling better. Gert it's nothing worse being sick while travelling.
I was wondering if anyone was still in Hobart today as they had a shocking day weather wise.
-
Kmw, we have had an amazing day weather and otherwise. The winds have been extreme. Are you still in Tassie?
Home very early tomorrow.
-
So glad you and Evan have had a great time Denise and safe travels home tomorrow.
I think I will be in Mandurah next Friday 7th November. Coffee maybe? ;D
-
Bedlam yes in St Helens, drove up from Bicheno it was pretty windy & rain at times but the further north we went the better weather.
-
Well I finally made it to Hobart on Monday but no one was there :( lol.
I went for a trip to look at a car and left Thomas with my sister. Come home with a new car that is much bigger for my needs and still cheap to run.
Gert I hope you are feeling better soon, your plane trip sounded bloody awful especially cause you wasn't feeling well.
So glad you all had such a great time and I'm sorry I missed it as I'm certain I would of had a great memorable day.
Maybe I should plan for the Melborne get together now as I'm know it would be well worth it. :)
-
I would have loved to have met for a coffee Dede, next time.
In Melbourne now, flight from Tassie on time and easy. Hoping for the same to Perth. I am very thankful for the improved weather today.
Thanks to everyone for song her wonderful Forumfest.

stop in syd for the night ;D
That would be nice and I could off load some smelly cheese! Evan thinks I am smelling the plane out.
-
;D say hi and a big :-* for Evan
-
You only just missed us Mandi, what a pity - we'd love to have met you. Melbourne is looking pretty big at this stage so perhaps something to think about. Glad you found what you wanted in a car so quickly.
-
Denise we could smell our cheeses on the bus so I guess you may have been able to on the plane. ;D ;D I only had 3 so no one complained.
-
So much to read and go through on this thread. I think I'll have to wait until coffee time ;D but it seems you all had a great time away. :D
-
We had a fantastic time Julie. What a great bunch of people :D
-
They are an incorrigible group Julie and it was nice to be a part of it ;D
-
You are not suggesting that we are naughty Judy ? ;D
-
I think incorrigible describes us perfectly JulieO.
Such tremendous fun and dear friends.
-
I love you all MF and wouldn't change a thing. Xx
-
I ditto that JD and incorrigible is far better than boring!
I don't think anyone could say that about our group of fantastic and fun dear friends :D
-
I don't think the GC management were worried about the shifting of furniture. Their job was to keep us in the Hotel because we drank and ate while there. We didn't smash or break anything. We didn't fight and didn't get drunk and abuse staff. We didn't smoke inside. Actually perfect guests.
-
Very true Chookie. We could use that as a reference for Melbourne.
-
Their job was to keep us in the Hotel because we drank and ate while there.
the staff we had missed that lesson

Marina, on some of the early photos I went back and added names which should identify everyone at some stage so if you have time to glance back there, it may all become a bit clearer.

The prettiest drink persons in Hobart. ;D I really loved that bar area, it will be hard to beat.
A couple more to remember the fun.

Sometimes the boys preferred something different to drink.

We never tire of seeing new photos, thanks Marie.

Found a couple of pics on my phone. The group pic must have been early on because there are no bubbles. I had forgotten that the Uni bomber had competition at Frogmore Creek Wines :D and loved the Christmas shop in Richmond ;D Sadly I wasn't allowed to take pics inside
-
That Christmas shop looks so inviting. I will have to go back just for that.

One more pic Fest related. I received a lovely card that Jeniwa made. And also a beautiful water colour by local artist Lindy Hudson It was spotted at the markets by a couple of Festees who immediately thought it depicted all of us. It perfectly fits with the whole Fest thing.
I think both are gorgeous. I wanted to frame the painting but even under glass up here the paper would be eaten and the paint could grow mouldy. The best I could come up with was laminating both which enables me to move them around and enjoy them wherever I look.
Thank you all for this great everyday reminder of what a lovely bunch we are.

What a thoughtful pair. It is just so perfect.
-
They look great Gert, I think that picture would make me smile even when I felt like crap. Nothing worse than blocked ears, I have been suffering something similar and found it to be allergy related and antihistamines have helped. (I know not related but just putting it out there)
-
Gert, you'd be the one with the glass on her head no doubt ;D Great idea with the laminating. We all enjoyed your birthday as much as you did.
