Hi everyone,

I haven't been here for ages and I really miss it! Things are busy!!

I am looking for a link I am sure is here and hopefully someone will remember it - I can't for the life of me find it after lots of searching.

It is a necklace and pendant that is kind of intertwined shapes with the names or dates of children engraved on it. It kind of looks like a knot.

Anyone?

« on: January 15, 2013, 10:41:35 am »
Hi there everybody.
I am looking at replacing my crepe pan which is just a cheap one.
Does anyone have the chasseur cast iron crepe pan or the green pan crepe pan? Can you give me your feedback?
I am looking for a good quality one and want the option of it working on induction in the future as well.

Chit Chat / Waffle Ice cream cone making kit owners
« on: January 09, 2013, 03:28:37 pm »
Well after a terrible messy and failed attempt using another recipe, I made this recipe yesterday and it was absolutely fantastic :)

http://becs-table.com.au/cooking-school/ice-cream-cones/

Crunchy, crispy and exactly like a waffle cone should taste. The first few I rolled had big holes at the bottom but after a couple of goes I managed to get it right and next time I will make them and fill the bottoms with Chocolate to prevent the icecream from dripping out.

Give them a whirl  ;) ;D but remember to make lots of ice-cream to fill them first!

Chit Chat / Chooks :)
« on: December 28, 2011, 05:52:05 am »
I would love to get some Chooks (as pets for the children but also to produce  eggs) but we have a small amount of outdoor space with garden but no grass! Does anyone have Chooks in a small space and if so how do you manage them? Would love to hear about people's chook experiences. Type of chook house set up etc.

Rules and Instructions Of Use / Inserting pictures using an iPad
« on: November 20, 2011, 10:39:44 am »
Ok (I will try and speak English Chookie)
Go to the app store and put photobucket in the top right search box
Select the free app photobucket from the iPad apps and download.
Once downloaded open the app
If you don't have a photobucket account sign up for one by putting in your user name, password etc
Login and on the top right there is an arrow, when you click on it, it will say "choose upload source" I have photos in an album on my iPad ( I use the little adapter you can buy for iPad to take an SD card from my digital camera) the other option is putting photos from a laptop or desktop on photobucket as photobucket can be accessed anywhere you can get on the Internet.
Once you have photos on there click on the "my albums" down the bottom.
Select the photo you want to upload.
Click on the little chain icon on the top right.
Tap on the IMG Code to copy it and then paste it into the reply box on the forum. It will start with [IMG:http etc etc
This should then become a picture when you hit the post button. I hope this makes sense and helps people with iPads post more pictures :)

Chit Chat / Upright or chest freezer?
« on: October 14, 2011, 04:16:36 pm »
Ok now.................
Don't go rushing out and buying a freezer after reading this thread  :D ( based on the pie maker thread lol)
I really just want to hear opinions on the pros and cons of the two types of freezers as I am planning on a getting a chest freezer, I think.....

Desserts / 'Birds Eye' type custard
« on: September 22, 2011, 06:20:02 am »
Ok I am going to just add it here  ;D

Thick Custard
This recipe , contributed by Janie Turner, makes a lovely thick custard (like birds) with no artificial ingredients, " my children will finally eat home-made custard now."

500g milk
6 egg yolks
70g sugar
1tsp vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste
20g corn flour exactly, weighed in a tsp at a time to avoid adding too much

1. Put all ingredients in the TM bowl and cook 7 minutes/90Cspeed 4
2 for an even smoother finish, mix 15-20sec/speed 8. Pour out into a serving jug

Tip: this is the perfect consistency for a trifle

Three whole eggs can be used.

Bread / Info on bread improver ingredients
« on: June 14, 2011, 12:31:06 pm »
Here is some info on bread improver and the ingredients included in them.

Ok so after an interesting and in-depth chat with the guy at All About Bread yesterday, this is what he told me and I have added some links for you......

Bread improvers have enzymes in them. These help to break down starches in flour to simple sugars which then feed the yeast and make the dough rise.

All about bread's branded bread improver has a cereal enzyme in it which is derived from a plant based grain. It complies with halal and kosher (not sure of the spelling of that one) classification requirements (and was previously branded to indicate this) but AAB don't feel the need to pay the large yearly fee to certify their bread improver as the demand is not high enough from those cultures.

Other bread improvers will have either amylase enzyme or L-Cysteine (920) in their ingredients lists. They can also apparently just put 'enzyme' on there which means it is more than likely amylase.

Amylase enzyme is derived from the pancreatic acid of a pig, see link

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amylase

L-Cysteine or 920 if made in China is derived from horse and human hair or made anywhere other than China is derived from chicken feathers. This particular enzyme is the one that bakeries use in conjunction with high speed kneading machines to speed up the process from flour to a loaf of bread, to increase productivity.

All very interesting and quite scary!!

Chit Chat / Coconut oil/butter question
« on: June 12, 2011, 10:06:38 am »
Ok just a quick question. I was reading a cool blog yesterday and the author stated that coconut oil and coconut butter are the same thing. Can anyone comment on or confirm this please?

Chit Chat / Keeping up to date with blogs - how do you do it?
« on: June 12, 2011, 10:03:57 am »
Ok I am fairly technology savvy but keeping track of blogs seems to escape me. I think also I have been putting it off because I know it will become addictive.
What I want to know is how do you keep track of blogs you like other than just looking at them every now and then.
Does anyone use an iPad app to do this?
Looking forward to your responses

Chit Chat / Canteen rescue competition
« on: May 17, 2011, 04:36:45 pm »
http://www.cfsgam.com.au/assetmanagement/canteenrescue/homecr.aspx

I am not sure if this has been discussed but this competition is running across Australia. If your local primary school is near a participating shopping centre then promote it!!!!
Hopefully it will change school canteens and make a move to changing more in the future :)
