G'day everybody and thanks for a great site.
Have read many many wonderful recipes but ask where I might find more ordinary everyday meals for an Aussie family.
The usual dinner would be a meat and five veg plus a sweet or a soup
Understand that there are heaps of wonderful recipes but would value a more standard recipe base
kind regards
peter

Your post made me laugh Pete. There are over 10,000 members on this forum and probably 95% of us are ordinary Australians. What you read here is what we eat. Take your pick.

No fibbing now Gert - none of us are "ordinary" we are all "EXTRAORDINARY"!!! ;D ;D ;D
-
Dumb question, do you own a Thermomix Pete or do you think this is just a cooking forum for housewives? (please don't be offended)
-
I get what you are asking Peter - we are a meat and veg household here too - does that make us "Everyday Aussies" ?? ;) ;D
I generally do meat in oven or slowcooker, veg and gravy in TM, or meat in TM and sides in oven, I do use my slowcooker alot and teamed with the TM make a great pair for how we eat.
There is a section on here called "All in one meals using the varoma" - http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?board=54.0 (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?board=54.0) which might be more what you are after...?
Hope that is of some help... ??? :D
Any other Qs feel free to ask on here.
MrsG - if you read his introduction post you will see he is 'in the know' so to speak about this forum and the TM....http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=14294.0 (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=14294.0)

I've compiled this list (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=6470.0) and I hope it is useful for you Pete. (Just click on the link)

Pete we are a meat and veg family. I find I can still make things like peanut chicken and do veggies with it, or lots of other chicken recipes. I don't use my thermomix much for beef, but can still make soups or dessert in it. Steamed veggies in the varoma are lovely. Baf's chicken is really chicken and veggies. Have a bit of a look in main meals or all in one meals.
-
Pete here is a everyday meal, Saturday Lunch, with 7 veg. Rare roast lamb on the BBQ with onions and garlic. Truffled Thermomix mashed potatoes cooked with skins on. Varoma steamed yellow beets, carrots, broccoli, cauliflower, served with cheesy lemony Thermomix sauce and Thermomix made mint sauce.
No gravy as we are not keen but also could be done in Thermomix.
So there you have it, an ordinary Australian dinner of meat and 7 veg not counting the bits of truffle.

You couldn't get anything more ordinary (but delicious) than Chelseas Bangers & Mash (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?board=54.0) Pete - give that a whirl. You really need to have a good browse of the forum and you will find so many ordinary meals on here - eg chicken & lentil cottage pie (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=5683.0) (there are meat versions around too). Check out the link astarra gave you and have a browse through the main meal section as well. We are just so proud of the recipes that this forum has to offer, converted and shared by the very generous people on here.
-
Hi Pete - and welcome to the forum :D
You will find lots of help and advice here from friendly people who are only too willing to help -
I was under the impression that on this forum members were encouraged to not hold back on any question - none too small or too great to get any answers or direction that may be helpful - so ask away!!!
Maybe we could start a thread suggesting meals and links to the recipes as I'm sure Pete is not the only one thinking along these lines . . .. . or just post suggestions in this thread.
-
Oops that post didn't come up in my feed. Sorry if anyone got offended, I only tend to scroll on my phone so don't tend to see all the updates. I also specifically said my question was not intended to cause offense.
Anyway, welcome. We are meat and veg eaters also, but I tend to do a lot of salads in my Tm. Breads and rice also.
My biggest problem is that most of the recipes I find tend to be high in fat, but omitting cream and making use of options can fix that easily.
I love my veggies, and it's still pretty simple to include them on the side with what I cook.
Good luck convincing the wife... If she had any idea how hard I had to fight with my hubby to get my Tm, she'd know she is a very lucky girl indeed.

Here is another one Pete. Pretty easy to cook the quinoea in the Thermomix. Let it cool and add 5 or more veggies. Using leftover lamb from yesterday and here is a very ordinary Australian version of meat and 8 veg plus 3 fruit.
Quinoea salad with tomato, avocado , kale, cucumber, spring onion. chilli, garlic, capsicum, yellow beetroot. The dressing made in he Thermomix is rice bran oil, lime juice, fish sauce, garlic and fresh picked and dried pink peppercorns .
Just add the meat.

Yummm Gert, we have prime rib tonight. i might make the quinoa salad, it looks devine :)
I find thermie is also great fo chop up left over roasts to make pies, pasites, ragus etc.
H :)

The quinoea is my new favourite food for summer. I did soak it overnight . After cooking I drained it well, left it in the fridge to dry out , it was light fluffy and tasty. Leftover salad for breakfast with a fried egg on top. Funnily enough DH has taken to it as well.
There is a whole lot you can do with it so far as adding whatever. DD is making a Mediterranean roast veggie and Quinoea salad today with rack of lamb so she will be serving it warm.

Gert your meals look tasty.
Quinoa is one of my new favourites too. I add it to so much. Sneak it into biscuits, soups, make salads etc
-
Quinoa my new fav too ;D
-
All great suggestions. Gert that salad looks lovely, how dud you cook the quinoa?
-
In the basket in the Thermomix wonder. Too easy.
Gert
-
I don't like the texture of quinoa so mix it with rice and steam it in the basket, 22 minutes. I then make a Pilaf. Too easy and tasty.
-
That is a good idea chookie. Value added rice......
Gert
-
Hmmm, i found I lost too much of it through the holes so steamed in the varoma on top of some baking paper which was a suggestion form quirky jo.
I really like the sound of that Pilaf Chookie, I had a quick look for the recipe the other day and couldn't find it on here, will need to have a better look.
-
Would love to know the best way to cook quinoa. I have only done quirky jos spanish rice.
-
The quickest and easiest IMO is to put an amount in the dish, add water to about 3 cms above the quinoea , put in Microwave on high for bout 13 minutes. Drain it really well and fluff it. To me quinoea should be really dry before using it otherwise it is clumpy, soggy and nasty. Once you get the hang of it you will use it more and more. Try the different colours as well for interesting side dishes .
It used to be cheap but since it has gained in popularity it has become a pit pricy but a little goes a long way.
Gert
-
Thanks Gert, yes it does go along way :)
-
I agree about the dryness Gert, quirky Jo's steaming worked really well and it stayed reasonable dry.
-
Do you soak first Gert?
-
Ladies - did we scare Peter off? Haven't heard from him in a while...
-
Could be Nikkit or maybe he was not allowed to buy.
Bedlem I soaked over night but you can just rinse.
Gert
-
Going to make Gerts salad for dinner with our left over prime rib :P
-
Snap we are having Gert's salad for dinner with left over roast chicken.
-
I have cooked quinoa for 20 mins in microwave. Seems cooked. I lost a lot in the rinsing process ???
See how the salad goes
-
Did you use a fine mesh strainer. Hally?
Gert
-
No, lol my TM basket ;D
-
That looks great Hally.
-
I cook quinoa according to Tenina's method. I think it is in Dinner Spinner.
-
The salad is delicious. Thx Wonder & thank you JD for posting my photo. I cant post photos again ???
HHW :)

I am sure there must be some TM recioes in my books.
-
well thanks everybody i am sure i will enjoy this forum and will learn a lot .
At our demonstration the Thermomix was so good that two of my friends bought as well and now we have decided to buy each of the daughters one each so i expect you will soon have more members seeking help and contributing where they can.
At present i bake all our bread and use Wallaby Brand bakers flour but our demonstrator milled some wheat to add to her flour for bread rolls.
What wheat is used to mill bakers flour ?
We are planning to buy as a group and wonder if there are any co-ops in the Frankston area of Victoria?
In Dandynong we have a market and Hindustan Imports are these familiar to anyone and are they recommended ?
We are on a cruise and expect to get our Thermomix when we return home next Wednesday and it was great to get the two thermoservers.
kind regards
peter

Hi Peter, you'll soon have your TMX, how exciting. I sometimes substitute 100g of milled whole wheat for bakers flour to make whole meal bread, never tried making a loaf with all milled flour. I'm sure achookwoman (chookie) will be able to help with your bread queries, she's an expert!
Enjoy your cruise and have fun with thermie when you return.

thanks very much and kind regards

This (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=5361.0) thread might be of some help to you Peter. Lucky you being on a cruise, best place to be at the moment.

Google Quirky Jo as on her website she explains about Co ops which she is a huge fan of because of the savings
-
Peter Quirky Cooking had a post on this http://quirkycooking.blogspot.com/2011/03/bulk-food-buying-co-ops.html?m=1
Seek out the comments. I would also suggest joining the Quirky Cooking Chat Group on fb. I'm sure they would be able to help out. They are great!

Peter its fun when you have 2 thermys going at once. :D
with your friends and Daughters, a big cook up would be great. enjoy
