Chit Chat / Kogan ThermoBlend
« on: February 06, 2013, 02:06:49 pm »
I gave a ThermoBlend to my daughter for Christmas.  I gave her the choice of a ThermoThing or a Coffee machine.
I would have loved to have been able to give her a ThermoMix, but despite entering every competition, and trying to buy one on-line it was not going to happen.   :(    :'(
She has sent me many messages and photos of the many things she has made with it.
It is a real hit in her kitchen and has taken up residence on her bench.
Last comment was.  If this thing dies I will probably get myself a ThermoMix to replace it.

Like so many others, It was hard to explain how good they are in the kitchen, but a few weeks with one and you can't live without it  :)

Chit Chat / I killed my ThermoChef :)
« on: February 06, 2013, 01:59:55 pm »
Been meaning to make this post but just hadn't had time.
Just before Christmas (half way through making breadcrumbs for my Chrissy Pudding) my TC started making weird noises and the blades were turning very slow.  Oh No...
Next morning, 17th of Dec I emailed NewWave with an explanation of what happened.
After a few emails back and forth, they agreed to...
Send me a replacement base unit..
and also sent a reply paid voucher to return the dead unit.
The replacement was sent before they had rec'd my dead return, and was here on the 21st of Dec.  before Christmas.

Kudos to NewWave.  That has to be the best service I have ever had from a company.    :D

Chit Chat / Steamed Cup Cakes
« on: January 15, 2013, 07:54:37 am »
Hi,
Lately I keep finding recipes for steamed cup cakes.  Like this one.
http://www.larecetadelafelicidad.com/en/2012/10/steam-cupcakes-apam-dot-dot.html
and this one
http://www.anncoojournal.com/2012/11/steamed-orange-cupcakes.html
or  http://mimibakeryhouse.blogspot.com.au/2012/09/ladybugs-attack-steamed-strawberry.html

They look fantastic as the steaming retains the colour,  But I'm not sure what the texture would be like.

Hoping someone has tried this already.
Or will I try it and report back  :)

Chit Chat / Thermolicious App
« on: January 04, 2013, 12:52:53 pm »
Hi ,
Is anyone using the Thermolicious App available for iPad.

I bought my daughter one of the Kogan ThermoBlends for Christmas (sorry for saying bad words,  I just can't afford a TM and wanted her to be able to make some of the stuff I talk about) and she is using it.
Seems to be working out well for her.  She is whipping up some pretty yummy sounding things.

Chit Chat / Thermo Chef on special
« on: May 06, 2012, 12:43:06 pm »
Everten are really pushing the Thermo Chef at pesent.
Several times they have included an extra bowl, or the red pizza oven or other tempters with the TC.
Today they have actually reduced TC to $689.00. :o
Certainly getting them moving and the name out into the community.

Chit Chat / Chick Peas
« on: April 12, 2012, 10:42:28 am »
There are heaps of recipes for cookies and cakes and brownies with chick peas as the base ingredient.
I love chick peas and use them a lot.  BUT..
I have chick pea flour  (Besan) that I would like to use up rather than using a tin of soaked peas.
Does anyone know a conversion that would work?
Should I just use a cup of flour mixed to a paste in place of the can of peas?
Any help greatly appreciated.

Chit Chat / How to season an old aluminium pan
« on: March 17, 2012, 10:27:51 am »
I bought a very old, very heavy cast aluminium gem scone tray / pan and would love to use it.
It is in very good condition but I can't find anywhere how to season it.
I have washed it several times but it keeps having a black powder appear on it.  I think it is just oxide, but I don't know what to do to stop it.
I have oiled it, and baked it each time I have cooked something in the oven but still it has this black stuff.
Any suggestions?

Chit Chat / Monsanto and GM Food. How do you feel about it?
« on: March 13, 2012, 04:52:52 am »
   Hi forum members,
I'm not sure if I am allowed to get up on my soapbox on here. I couldn't find anything in the rules that said no.

This is a topic I feel strongly about.,  Walmart are not in Australia.  Well,  not yet that I know about.  But it will happen..

Monsanto is launching its latest war against good, healthy food. Its first-ever consumer product has been grown to contain Bt toxin – a pescicide that ruptures the stomachs of insects that eat it. It has never been tested on humans, yet it will be will be nearly impossible to distinguish from natural corn because its unlabelled and unmarked.

I signed the petition below to let WalMart know that I won’t let them sell toxic corn.  Please join me by signing the petition below.

    http://sumofus.org/campaigns/monsanto-walmart/?sub=taf

As one of my teachers said..  Many years ago   :-[.
If salmon and tomatoes were meant to get it together, either fish would live on land or tomatoes grow under the water.  They don't.  So why is man trying to cross them?

    Thank you.

Chit Chat / Preserving citrus peel recipes
« on: March 10, 2012, 12:23:25 pm »
I am hoping that someone knows a way  to preserve citrus peel.
I have a tiny Buddhas Hand Citron tree that this year has a massive crop on it.
So far I have been picking them and putting in the fruit bowl to enjoy the weird shape and heavenly smell.

But surely they can be used as peel?
Or maybe even preserved like the salted lemon I am reading about on another thread, and that I buy from a lovely indian lady at the local market and now will try doing myself with our lemons.  I thought it was some form of magical treatment that converted them to a delicacy to use with fish.  Now I find it is just salt.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Chit Chat / Bread Makers
« on: March 05, 2012, 04:06:32 am »
I have two very tired Breville bread makers.  A large and a small.
Both still knead the bread beautifully, but trip off our Earth leakage switch when they turn on to the bake cycle.
Apparently this is a known fault that happens when the unit gets a bit tired.

I would like to buy a new Breville,  But $$'s limitation says no at the moment.
But I can get a Morphy Richards Stainless Steel Breadmaker  48319  or a
Sunbeam Breadmaker Bakehouse Compact or a
Tefal Breads of the World Breadmaker
using Award points on my credit card

I have read heaps of reviews and the Morphy Richards seems the better way to go,  But would love to hear if any one else has had experience with any ot these
Or should I just wait and get another Breville?

Rosie's Festive Fruitcake

Part 1 : Fruit and Nuts

200g Mixed Nuts.  (I used 100gPecans, 50gWalnuts and 50gSlivered Almonds)
150g Macadamias
100g Sultanas or Raisins
200g Glace Cherries
200g Mixed Dried Fruit.  (I used Pineapple, Apricot and PawPaw)
3tbsp Port Wine (I used Muscat)
Combine all of the above in a large bowl and set aside while you do the next part

Part 2 : Batter
Into the  *: TM bowl place
3 large Eggs
150g Caster Sugar
1tsp Vanilla
100g pitted dates
Blend at Speed 5 for around 30->45 seconds.
The dates need to be well mashed as these help glue the fruit and nuts together while baking.
Add
100g Plain Flour
1tsp Baking Powder
1tsp salt
Blend at Speed 1 for 30->45 seconds

Part 3
Pour the contents of the  *: TM Bowl into the bowl of marinated fruit and nuts and stir well with a wooden spoon until mixed.

Pack the mixture into a well oiled and lined 20cm cake tin and smooth the top.
Bake at 150o for 1 hour or until a skewer comes out clean.

Inspiration for this recipe is from ABC Delicious Magazine's "Down Under Christmas Cake"

Recipe Requests / Fruit and nut Christmas cake
« on: December 14, 2011, 07:18:50 am »
I am trying to find a recipe for a Christmas cake like the ones seen in Health Food and Ditters Nuts shops.
They are almost entirely made of dried fruit, nuts and seeds with just a tiny amount of dough to hold the mix together.
I have searched in the Christmas and cake area but no luck so far.
Hope that someone can help with this one.
Thanks heaps,  Rosie

These were one of the treats my mother would make for any kids parties or to take to school fetes.
