Chit Chat / Are my blades ruined?
« on: August 05, 2011, 08:39:48 am »
Hi
yes wrong section I know but I am posting here hoping for more traffic.
I am wondering if my blades are ruined.  I have just gone to make family chowder and the blades won't spin.  I've taken every thing out and it spins empty and with just water but as soon as I put in any vegies to chop - no go.  Just a spinning sound but no movement, not even on reverse.  Are they blunt?  Are they dead?  Other than freezing the blades - any other suggestions?
TIA

Cakes / Easy Peasy Chocolate Slice
« on: November 24, 2010, 10:28:12 am »
Hi
I made this today and it really is very easy, even easier with a TMX!  And ingredients that are usually in the pantry.

I got this recipe from http://www.melissagoodsell.typepad.com/ but I'm not sure if she got it from somewhere else.

125g butter in to  *: melt 2min 100deg sp 2
Add
160g SR flour
85g coconut
100g sugar (I used organic raw and was fine)
10g cocoa

Mix 1min  :-: sp2 scraping sides as necessary

Press firmly in to a slice tin.

Cook in moderate oven 10-15min - don't overcook as will become very hard and too crunchy.

Ice if desired and eat!

Note:  I cooked mine for 12 min 160oC and is a little undercooked but still very yummy

ETA further instructions!

members' comments

cottchick - it was so easy and quick (and I can already feel the extra kilos!!). Thanks for the recipe.

jezzamiff - Super easy recipe, took no time at all to make but mine is also a bit undercooked - a bit soft and crumbly.  I cooked it at 180 for 12 mins, so I think you don't need to be TOO concerned about overcooking it.

Debbiebillg - I doubled the mixture for the size of tin I was using and it was really yummy. Almost gone already.  A big hit with the kids.

Denzelmum -  made this, only had 60gr coconut left.  It's between cookies and brownies.  Made a very thin, only about 1 cm high and I don't bother making icing.  Treat for DD's lunch box.

Chit Chat / 3 in one room...
« on: October 30, 2010, 10:21:43 am »
Hi
I had a weird thermo experience this week and thought I should share!
OK so I live in Tas.  I'm a nurse and work in a day procedure unit, when doing a list there are two nurses and two doctors (a specialist and anaesthetist) in the room.

The other week I went to the demo class.  As walking in, I heard a lady say her name as "xyz" which happened to be the name of the wife of a Dr I work closely with.  So Friday was the next time I worked with him and so I said "Dr xyz do you and your wife own a thermomix", and then the anaesthetist piped up and said "we own a thermomix' and then I added "so do I".  How funny, we've worked together for ages, never talked about it and there were 3 out of 4 in the room owning one!  And then I found out one of the wives of our other Dr has bought one recently too.

So there you go!  That was pretty amazing!  And we got to educate our other colleague about them too.

Cakes / Super easy cream cheese icing
« on: October 19, 2010, 01:57:21 am »
OK so all cream cheese icings are pretty easy but I just did this one as i had limited time.

The recipe was

500g cream cheese
500g icing
1 tsp vanilla

All in to  *: and mix for as long 30sec on spd 6 scraping sides as necessary.  I left mine beating as I did other things.  So around 1 min.

Note:

I did 1/4 of that recipe and it was HEAPS for a 20cm square cake.  Heaps.
It would adapt well to lemon or other flavouring as was not too sweet.
I used Spreadable cream cheese and not sure if it will set, is quite runny.  So would advise to use the normal one.

Cakes / Choc Sprinkle Cookies
« on: October 17, 2010, 01:44:21 am »
I got this recipe off www.theorganisedhousewife.com.au - not sure where she got it from!  I've just made them for the first time - very easy and makes a lot of small biscuits.  I made about 20 or so, then the rest is in a log in the freezer for another time.  Not the healthiest but the kids like them!  I'm not a big fan but I'm not a huge choc biscuit fan either.

In  *:
200g butter (room temp but I just put in in  *: for 30sec on 37deg)
60g caster sugar (i used organic raw and is fine)

Beat these together 40sec spd 8, scrape sides and mix again 20sec spd 4

Add
1 tin condensed milk
1 tspn vanilla

Beat 20 sec spd 4

Add
220g SR flour
80g pl flour
55g cocoa

Stir in - was quite a stiff mix so just have a play around with what works best for you.

Drop teaspoon sized "blobs"  ;D on to a baking tray.  You can be all fancy and roll them and push down with a fork or lazy like me and leave them as they are! ;)

Cook 160deg 15min.

They don't spread much, quite fudgy in the middle.  Ice with melted white chocolate and top with sprinkles!

Enjoy

Questions? Technical Issues? The Survival Guide / Freezing satay sauce?
« on: October 13, 2010, 11:31:19 am »
Hi
I just made some yummy satay sauce - the recipe that is with the chicken skewers.  Just wondering if I could freeze it or not?  I did cook it as per Thermomixer's suggestion.  I'd like to have it in the freezer just to pull out to make a quick meal.

Desserts / Adults Only Sorbet
« on: September 12, 2010, 01:05:02 am »
Hi all
just wanted to post this variation I made on the normal sorbet recipe.  I intended to make the Champagne Sorbet recipe on here but forgot the grapefruit juice.  I froze one bottle of sparkling wine (I used Zibbibo Rosa by Brown Brothers - its my fave) and used this instead of ice cubes along with strawberries and the remaining ingredients as per the EDC.  It was seriously seriously YUM.
Hope you like it!

Hi
I am making a sponge cake tomorrow and I was wondering about making orange curd instead of lemon as I have lots of oranges.  It should still work shouldn't it?  I'm assuming it would taste nice in the middle of the sponges with some whipped cream.  YUM!

Hi
I know I could just try it but I don't want to damage anything!
We use organic rock salt and I'd like to keep a supply of it ground for cooking etc.  So can Thermie help me out with this?
TIA

Bread / Thin and crispy pizza dough
« on: April 24, 2010, 08:26:46 am »
Hi
here is our favourite pizza dough - it originates from www.bestrecipes.com.au

In the TMX bowl, add 170g water.  37deg for 1 minute on speed 1.

Add 1tsp salt, 1 tsp sugar and 7g yeast (I use about 10).  Mix on speed 1 for 1 minute.

Add 260g plain flour.  Mix speed 5 for 20 sec.  This mix sometimes needs a dash or two more of water.  When it's mixed and the right consistency,  :: for 2 minutes.

Turn out on to a floured board or mat and roll in to your desired pizza size.  One mix makes 2 really big bases or 3 medium bases.  I use this recipe for pizza pockets as well and it easily makes 10.

Cook and enjoy!

Hi
we've had birthdays here of late and making the icing for the cakes from raw sugar is just horrible.  The icing tastes yuk and is also a nice brown colour.  Adding colouring results in yukky colours too.

Has anyone else found this?  I don't want to keep icing sugar but I tihnk I'll have to for icing purposes.
