Judy
Forgive my nosiness, but how did you manage to get your hands on a copy of this book?
Thx

Gillian, all contributors received several copies of this book - I was lucky enough to be given one of them by one of the contributors.
There appears to be no other way of getting one at this stage as HO nor any of the consultants on here have not released any details on how this book is to be offered.

You are so sweet Hally, I have so many generous friends on this forum and often get things in the mail. It never ceases to amaze me with their generosity and thoughtfulness. As Geoff Fenech has said 'I luvs ya all' although I do cringe when I hear that and I can't believe I have just written it on a forum for thousands to see  :-)) :-)) :D :D

JD  there seems to be some secrecy about this book. Maybe it is so bad they don't  want it mentioned. lol!

No one seems to be saying anything about the new Thermomix Cookbook by Fiona Hoskin called  Devil of a Cookbook, which is supposedly selling by HO with some money going to the Devil Island project to save the Tasmanian Devils. Surely the Tassie consultants should be promoting this one big time.  Fiona Hoskins used to own Fee and Me restaurant in Tasmania.  It was a wonderful place to eat.

Come to think of it why hasn't  Fiona or her Thermomix friends mentioned it on the forum after all it is pretty big news in Tasmania.

Fiona Hoskin is the state manager for Thermomix and is very well known in Tasmania as well as the rest of Australia for her outstanding cooking.  She is also a wonderful photographer and is known for her work in saving the Tasmanian Devil.  I would definitely buy the book not only for her recipes but anything we can do to help those poor "devils" is worth while.

All those who attended Thermofest received a promo for Devil of a Cookbook which contained three recipes from it.  The book was launched by Grace and Fiona in Hawaii and Fiona is travelling around Australia to do launches elsewhere as soon as the book is available.  From what we heard at Thermofest it is a bit behind schedule.  I think the Tasmanian launch is set for May.  If there are definite facts we can broadcast them but there is not much to say yet until the book is out.  Thank you to the people who are aware it is coming and are sharing the information here on the forum.  I hope I am correct in saying that the book will be $40.  Nobody will be getting any profit from it in the distribution chain.  All the profit will go to the Devil Island Project.

This book is a compilation of 10 recipes from 10 countries Thermomix recipe web sites. all of the recipes  have been published on the web. The book is the  4th in the series of  Vorwerk  Thermomix cookbooks. It  has a lot of home cooking and some interesting recipes. My recipe for chicken liver pâté is in it. Nothing special about that one at All. Reviews here. (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=9509.0)

LMT, I think it is much better than Full Steam Ahead.  Have you checked out the contents list to see if any recipes appeal to you? I have marked well over 50 recipes that I would like to try if I had the time.  I know I won't get around to doing anywhere near that many but I always make a list from all my recipe books and just browse that list from time to time to see if anything jumps out at me on the day.  The recipes are fairly simple.  Not sure how they are going to market it though, you may have to have a demo to be eligible to purchase.

I have actually decided that under the current system that HO have of releasing books that I will not be purchasing. One time I went to HO and wanted to look at one of their books (Travelling with TM) and they would not unwrap it from the cellophane so I could flick through. I'm sort of over the whole system. On Amazon you can actually browse books (at least the 1st chapter) before purchasing, and the TM books that I have previously bought are so-so. I have not even made one thing out of the Asian book.
I'm happy to use the books that I have bought as reference books if anyone here requires info and help.

OMG I would love to have a HotMixPro to dabble and experiment with. I'm warming to the prospect of a new machine cos I'm a bit of "tech head" as my kids would say, and its so exciting!

Lauzzie pop over to   superkitchenmachine.com and if you have ought one of Helene's wonderful spatulas you have a chance to win the new cookbook.  Really though you would be much better off buying For Foods Sake, Which is available in book shops and on line at Tenina's web site or  husbandspoke.com.au

I'm the same as you. It was the May gift for buying a Thermomix. I've looked through it a few times and there really isn't anything that appeals to me.

Part of me thinks it's the photos. They aren't very appealing and most of the contributors (aside from the Aussie ones) look terrified. Seriously.

The only way that I would really be interested in buying any more thermomix cookbooks is if I could get them electronically.  I'm trying to resist buying any more physical books because my bookshelves are already too full, plus I like having them at my fingertips whereever I might be.  I have all of the thermomix books I own scanned as pdf's and I am now gradually getting them into Paprika/Living Cookbook as well.  I've also been gradually getting the recipes from here into Paprika/Living Cookbook....I'm about halfway through the Main meals....if people would only stop posting more recipes :P

I got this book in May with my tmx and there really isn't anything that appeals to me either. A lot of it looks like it just stepped out of a 70's weight watchers cookbook. (Not low fat recipes as such but just daggy and really poor styling of the food). I don't mean to be harsh, but that was mine and DH's first comment after we looked through it  :-\

I think they are not so bad being specific and basic. It is the other compilations that are crap, like Full Steam Ahead, Travelling with Thermomix , My Way of Cooking and the latest in the series.

Customers are held to ransom to buy these very ordinary cookbooks.

Having said that many people like them but I venture not as much as For Food Sake written with "us" in mind by an expert with beautiful text and stylish pictures.  It is far more sophisticated and aimed at intelligent cooks which I believe we are on on this forum.

In my opinion Vorwerk is stuck  in  70’s mentality with their business plan for the Thermomix. Customers are far more savvy these days and more discerning with their spending. Certainly  a free crappy cookbook would not induce most of us to spend $2000 on a TMX. The paucity of thermoservers  is another ploy to hold a demo. Desirable as it is there are other containers that do an equal job. One is an oven. The others can be found in kitchenware shops and Asian shops.

I REALLY wanted a thermoserver but i really didnt want to host a demo.  We just don't have the room or the time for a demo, too much of a hassle.

I ended up buying the insulated food server from IKEA instead and it's great - and only about $25 too!

I really dislike this if you want it you have to have a demo mentality that TMX Australia has for all of its products.  Once you have bought your thermomix you should be able to purchase the accessories and cookbooks for it!
Title: Re: The Best of our Recipe Communities
Post by: judydawn on June 13, 2012, 01:05:44 am
With all the new competitors on the market Gert, you would think Vorwerk would be looking at updating their whole selling plan.
There is certainly no comparison with official recipe books and the latest books available.  You only need to browse some of the URL links  (http://www.forumthermomix.com/index.php?topic=8228.0) on this forum to find wonderful TMX recipes on people's blogs which are sometimes the class of those in these latest non-official books.  If you spent the time, you would come up with your own recipe book for entertaining with some of the lovely recipes you will find on some of these sites. There are some very savvy cooks out there getting the best from their Thermomix.

CGL - were you wanting the Vegetarian book for vegetarian options or, like me, thinking it would have side dishes of vegies in it?  It is not a bad book but for sides, not good.  Our forum has heaps of lovely things to do with vegetables so I'd think about that one unless you are cooking for vegetarians.  The Indian book is probably worth getting if you like spicy food.

I have most of the books from Vorweck, and rarely use them except for the EDC.

I find the recipes on here are much better.
You can buy them online from HO, But the EDC you need to find a consultant, which mine left straight after she sold me my machine.

I find a lot sell the 6 machines, then leave the company.
The recipe community website is harder to navigate so I don't go there.

As Judy says, lots of blogs with great recpies.
