Cakes / Re: Savoury Cheese Muffins
« on: October 05, 2011, 06:55:27 am »
I'd never heard of muffin top pans and a search of the internet couldn't find me any that would ship to Hobart. I wanted silicone and I wanted them now! I decided to give savoury muffins a go just scooping mixture on to a flat silicone baking tray. I was careful not to make the mix too thin and amazingly it worked. I ended up with a big flat (probably 1 cm thick) muffin cookie. They were soft like muffins with a crisper edge. I'd have to say they were a success and would also go nicely in the toaster.
Just thought I'd share this in case anyone else can't get muffin top pans. I don't normally like savoury muffins and I suspect it is because there is too much of the light fluffy bit and not enough crust. This seemed to solve that problem.

Hi all,

I was wanting to make some icecream that was lactose free and no fructose. I have made one lot as per the thermomix recipe book using lactose free milk and glucose syrup instead of sugar, and it seems to have worked perfectly well. I'm very lazy about washing up and things though and I was wondering if I could have chilled the custard before the churning by putting the whole thermomix bowl straight in the freezer and then bringing it out again a few hours later. Obviously it couldn't be frozen solid and I could break it up a bit to get the blades turning but other than this can anyone think of a reason not to do this.

Cheers,

Sue

Yes my meat was completely frozen and in big chunks.  I won't be doing that again.

Well I do now have some little scratches on the base of the TM bowl. Hasn't seemed to have affected performance but I don't like it.

Thanks everyone for your replies

Today I made a meatloaf with left over cooked frozen barbecue meat. I had to hold the thermomix down to stop it jumping off the bench and I was really worried that I was damaging it given it this really tough job. It did it and seems fine, but I wonder if there is any guide to what it can and can't reasonably chop. I wouldn't survive long now if I burnt the motor out or something.

Thanks

Sue

Chit Chat / Re: What improvements would you like to see in the next model?

The alarm at the end is definitely the worst thing. Perhaps it could turn off or go soft after a minute. Sometimes I don't want to get straight up and turn it off but the noise will not allow me to leave it.

Questions? Technical Issues? The Survival Guide / Timing
« on: August 02, 2009, 05:07:33 am »
Hi everyone.,
I've only had my thermomix for a week and this is a very basic question. When I'm making a recipe from the book that calls for a certain time at a certain temp - i.e for rice 14 mins on varoma temp- do I start counting the time from when it actually reaches the temp or just when I start from cold. It takes several mins for water to get up to temp so it makes quite a difference.
I'm guessing that's it's from when it reaches temp but I'd appreciate clarification.

Thanks

Sue

Introduce Yourself / Re: Thermomix delivered

Wow, thanks for the replies.
I had a better day today - made yummy foccacia for lunch - that was definitely easy and very successful. Tomato soup for dinner also worked well. The thermomix's contribution to the potato cakes was fine, but I didn't cook them too well. I've been following the book more today which is a good idea I think

Cheers,

Sue
PS I'm in Hobart

Introduce Yourself / Thermomix delivered
« on: July 25, 2009, 04:14:30 pm »
Hello all,

My name is Sue. Just purchased a thermomix and it was delivered last night. Today was my first day with it and it's been pretty good although I can't say everything I made was a complete success. My porridge had a distinct glue consistency and my hummous nearly exploded out the top like lava. I managed to destroy my chocolate chips in the cookies and the macadamias went well beyond chopped and were more like meal.  I think I've got a bit to learn about using it. I was really keen because I wanted to be able to heat to specific temps, have a really strong food processor and also be able to make more all in one meals. My other thought was to disguise veges in soups and pasta sauce, so my teenage boys get some nutrition.

Anyway, just saying hi from Tasmania. I'm sure I'll get lots of great tips here and hear about other's adventures with the Thermomix.

Cheers,
Sue
