Counting down the days
« on: December 11, 2012, 10:55:20 am »
I placed an order on Sunday and am now anxiously awaiting the arrival of 'Thermie'. Yes, he has a nickname and a gender already.
Can't wait, hopefully he will arrive in time for me to make some Christmas pressies!
What would everyone recommend as some easy and tasty treats that a thermomix newbie can't screw up?

Welcome beaniegoesnuts. What sort of things do you like to eat? Do you enjoy baking? Have a look through all the sections of the forum and check out any recipes that take your fancy. One of our members, CP has compiled a list of her favourites. That may help you.
Sorry I can't link it I am on my iPad. I'm sure someone will do it for you.

May all dairy items in your fridge be of questionable vintage.

Welcome to the forum beaniegoesnuts (hopefully I got that right ;D)
I always recommend that you start with the veggie stock concentrate in your first few recipes as there are quiet a few recipes that ask for the veggie stock as part of the ingredients list.
But what ever you do don't taste it (as I know quiet a few people have) as it tastes discusting :o lol

Hi BGN, welcome to the forum.  I hope you don't have to wait too long for your thermie.  In the meantime have a look through our Christmas thread and see if there is anything there that takes your fancy so that you can have the ingredients ready to start baking/cooking as soon as it arrives.

A very warm welcome to the forum BGN - you'll find those threads that Cookie and Judy recommended invaluable!!  Work your way through those and you'll be home and hosed! ;D  Look forward to hearing about Thermie's arrival and what the two of you get up to . . .! ;D

ooo, thanks for all the linkies and warm welcomes! I love that i've been shorted to BGN already.
must admit, I've been on this forum way too much the last 2 days but there's just so much to see and do!

My list so far:
- chicken stock concentrate (if i make it from frozen chicken it will still keep in the fridge for a few months right? or should i use fresh?)
- hazelnut chocolate spread
- chocolate covered kirsh ganache balls (hopefully this is as easy and as amazing as it looks)
- pizza risotto

i bought the thermomix because my husband is fructose intolerant and I hate the gluten free breads he buys. My lovely consultant brought along cydni o'meara's bread to our demo and it was beautiful. However, the recipe looks super complicated so I will be leaving that one until i'm more proficient with my thermie i think!

I can't see that frozen cooked chicken is any different to fresh cooked chicken BGN but I keep all my stock pastes and powders in the freezer then I don't have to even think about how old they are and if they are still OK.  The veg stock I keep in a ziplock bag and I just spoon out what I want as it doesn't freeze solid but the chicken stock I made is a different texture so I put dobs on baking paper on a tray and freeze them, later when frozen I tipped them into a ziplock bag. The stock powder recipe is in a book called For Food's Sake by Tenina.  If you have been browsing the forum you have probably seen the list of books available on this list.

Ooo, exciting.
For Xmas treats, there are some yummy fudge recipes on here which are going in my Xmas hampers, or things like jam & lemon curd are super easy in the thermomix and make great gifts.
