Looks like I'll be in Adelaide the week after you, Gert ... I followed you to Hobart last year and now I'm following you to Adelaide ... we may manage to both be in the same place at the same time one day :D

Does anyone know the correct order in which to read Alexander McCall Smith's No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency series of books?  I saw one today called The Minor Adjustment Beauty Salon - the title alone sounds brilliant and I would absolutely love to get it, but, from reading the outline it is obvious that I have missed some of the books in the series so want to read them in order.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Look around here and you will find the order somewhere. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_c_0_3?url=search-alias%3Ddigital-text&field-keywords=no1+ladies+detective+agency&sprefix=No1%2Cnull%2C938

What a shame Marina. Alexander McCall Smith is one of the authors coming to the festival . All his books will be available in the book tent I expect

You coming to Hobart in October?

Just finished Dan Brown's Inferno.  Some food for thought in that one.

Thanks for that list, Gert.  I never think of looking in places like Wikipedia or even Google, I never have time to really explore what the internet offers, so, thanks, I appreciate your help.  I enjoy getting inspiration from everyone on here - I hadn't even heard of a kindle until it was mentioned on here (I think by faffa, many years ago).

I probably won't be in Hobart, but it is still a possibility for me.  I will decide nearer the time.  I would love to join you and it is very tempting, but can't make a commitment yet.

I doubt realise there were so many in this series.  I enjoyed the first four, and foundthe style quite unique. Has anyone read the whole series?

I haven't read the whole series ... yet.  But I will.  Did anyone see the TV series?  Wasn't it good.  I loved the secretary, I really think she stole the show - but that's not taking anything away from the other actors, they were all brilliant and well cast.

I saw the start of the tv series and loved it. I thought a good job was done to maintain the integrity and characters of the books.

Just back from the wonderful writers festival in Adelaide. The highlight was hearing Andrew McCall Smith. He was an absolute hit and I fear I may now have to read more of his many many books. I have now downloaded the first of his  The  Sunday Philosophy Club , the first of his 44 Scotland Street and more of his No 1 Ladies  Detective agency series. Not yet sure about Corduroy  Mansions series.

Must read and on wish list is The Forgotten Rebels of  Eureka. Loved  her talk.  Beautiful intelligent and articulate.

Must must read and already downloaded is Empress Dowager Cixi by Jung Chang the author of  Wild  Swans. She was most charming and  compelling.

Also on wish list is Richard Flanagan's The Narrow Road to the Deep North. Loved  his talk.

Sorry was I that I had both bothered  to buy and read Barracuda. I was really pi$$ed off that I wasted an hour of my life listening to Christos Tsiolkas. A most inarticulate and chaotic book and author in my opinion.  Hopelessly written and I found it painful to listen to him as he could barely form a thought or finish a sentence which is evident in his book as well

Hats off to Adelaide for once again presenting a wonderful event which was beautifully situated in the Pioneer Womens Memorial Garden. A beautiful venue with good food, wine, clean toilets and professionally run. South Australians should be very proud.

That's good that SA did well Gert. DD attended the Perth Writers' Festival and was very disappointed that the few good authors that came only spoke on the Friday, not the weekend. I haven't read Barracuda, although DD has it. I hated The Slap.

I just read my first Louise Penny book for book club. A light who dunnit that I enjoyed. I will be finding more of her books.
I'm reading Colleen McCulloch's, Sins of the Flesh at the moment. Only finding it mediocre so far.
