Chit Chat / Re: What is for Breakfast
« on: August 23, 2012, 12:16:15 pm »
An upudate for Amy (who asked me to share my porridge)

I've been working on my perfect porridge recipe (well perfect for my tastes anyway) and I start by chopping a an apple in the tmx before adding oats, sultanas, lsa mix. Then in the last 20-30 secs of cooking I add a handful of nuts/seeds and brown sugar/honey. Then I serve it with a dallop of natural/vanilla yoghurt.....think I might need to try it with strawberries now though!

I've had a super busy couple of weeks so haven't had a chance to write anything more specific yet....

It's probably too late now but I've had lots of success with the White Wings brand gluten free flour and have rarely had to change my original recipes. Almost everything I've ever made with it (and I've made a lot for my brother who is coeliac) has turned out. Sometimes I add an extra egg if appropriate to help hold things together, not sure if that helps on a caramel slice though....

Chit Chat / Re: Challenge Try something new in TMX this week
« on: August 22, 2012, 11:42:28 am »
Love this idea because being a newbie, everything is still new and exciting!

I made my own Tikka Curry paste last night (first attempt at a curry paste) and teamed it with the Butter chicken recipe from here on the forum and it was just divine!

Risottos are my go-to when I'm late home from work or just can't be bothered, tonight was based on the mushroom one in the EDC but I added bacon, peas and zucchini because I needed to use them up. It wasn't fabulous but it was a pretty good meal to have on the table in less than 30minutes when we're home late from work and have visitors staying.

I'm hoping to make yoghurt/ricotta cheese this week so maybe that can be my goal!
I'm looking forward to hearing what other people are trying :)

Oh wow Gert! I think I might need to make lamb shanks asap! Cranberries sound like a nice touch of flavour too.

I'm waiting for my Thermovixen's red velvet cupcakes to cool so I can ice them -inspired by Maddy! Fingers crossed they look OK for my sister's b'day cakes!

We had ours with ice cream yum!

Chit Chat / Re: Coffee Machine
« on: August 18, 2012, 01:57:20 pm »
We love our Aldi machine (I especially like the Chai but haven't seen it in store for ages).

As with all pod coffee machines, they are not as good as a freshly brewed coffee made by someone who knows what they are doing (!), but for my money pods are a great option to have at home...I can make a decent coffee in less time than it takes to boil the kettle! I think the Aldi pods work out to be about  37c per coffee, I think the Nespresso are a little more but I'm not sure.

Yummo! Can't wait to try those :-)

I downloaded the Dinner Spinner app for android (it's on my phone and tablet) and is super easy to use. I had most of the ingredients for the Mac and cheese already so that was the first dish I've made, it was a great success!

The sauce was a great consistency and just the right amount for the pasta (I used macaroni), great family friendly recipe for my almost 2yo DD and flavoursome enough for DH & I. We had left over broccoli salad from the EDC for our veggie fix. The only problem for me was that I forgot to pre-cook the pasta so it wasn't quite as quick to prepare as I was hoping for....next time I'm going to put the pasta on then start the sauce so it all might be ready at the right time.

Thank you! This is just what I need! I've been a bit apprehensive about converting recipes, but this will certainly help :-)

I think I'll print it out and attach it to my EDC as nazar suggested!

All In One Meals using the Varoma / Re: Pasta with Meatballs
« on: August 12, 2012, 12:38:40 pm »
Hi Bubbles, yes I have a 23month old....she's a pretty good eater but not too fussed on the Brussels sprouts (it was her first taste though so I'll keep trying til I succeed  ;) )....next time I think I will puree some more veg into the tomato sauce for the extra veggie kick! Super kid friendly dinner though!

All In One Meals using the Varoma / Re: Pasta with Meatballs

I've been looking forward to using my TMX to make these and they didn't disappoint!

I followed the original recipe, but I forgot to add the milk at the end. About 4 minutes into steaming I added a heap of Brussels sprouts to the varoma tray. I thought they might be a fun veggie to add as they are a similar size to the meatballs and the sauce disguised the taste for those who are not fans! I added the meatballs and Brussels sprouts to the thermosaver then poured the sauce over the top.

Will most definately be making this again and again and again!

Jams and Chutneys / Re: Tenina's Lemon Curd - via Judydawn
« on: August 12, 2012, 04:11:41 am »
I made this yesterday as a filling for lemon macarons. The curd was delicious and I think I have eaten a spoonful each time I open the fridge!!!!!
Not sure I'd use it as a macaron filling by itself again, I think I'm used to a firmer, creamier texture...maybe add some whipped cream/cream cheese?
I'm using the left over curd to make some lemon tarts for morning tea tomorrow...I need to get it out of the house before I finish it all by myself!

Not as fancy as those gorgeous bread tins but I found some smallish bundt tins from Aldi yesterday and bough one hoping it would fit inside the varoma for steamed puddings....and it does  :)
I tried to find a link to share but it may have been from last week's specials

Oh, and another thumbs up for the Tupperware fridge smart containers, they really made fresh produce last for ages...I think my record is coriander that lasted for two weeks! I also love my red jug (gets used multiple times per day).
