Chit Chat / Re: so what was your favourite...

I'll be boring and say my electric beaters coz that's about all I used apart from my electric frypan, but I still use that. All my other appliances I couldnt' be bothered to get out of the cupboard. I donated them all to my church garage sale (except for the beaters, crockpot and popcorn maker). Goodbye blender, food processor, barmix and I can't remember what else.

I shop at Aldi, but I hate it. Their prices make it worth my while to clench my teeth and do it. I try and do a big bulk shop every 4-6 weeks and buy "trays" of the tinned food, a dozen tins at a time and stock up on lots of toothpaste and other things that I know are cheaper there than Bilo or Coles. I hate how you have to put out all your stuff on to the conveyor and then load them back into the trolley while the checkout operator scans them faster than you can pack them back into the trolley. Oh the pressure!! With the trays, I take out one can and then they multiply it by 12. Saves time and stress. I've done a spreadsheet to compare prices (anal, I know, but an interesting exercise) at my local Aldi, Bilo and Coles and most often Aldi is cheaper.

My favourite supermarket is my local Bilo. I'd be interested to visit a Costco or Sam's. People on some other forums are always talking about them, so I'd like to see them and compare.

Bread / Re: pullapart type loaf

I saw this at a class too and have made it a couple of times. I make it in a big baking tray, coz I didn't have a big springform. It worked really well. I'm going to try and make it with some toppings as well. Actually, I often make cinnamon buns and this would be a great way to do it! (Just thought of it then!) Brush the dough with melted butter, sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon, fold and put in the pan. Drizzle white icing over the top while its still warm... mmmm... I think I might go and try that right now!

Bread / Re: my bread!
« on: January 17, 2009, 03:13:36 am »
my bread never looks that aireated...it looks a lot more dense....i must be doing something wrong!

Mine does too. I can't figure out why. I made the TM31 bread the other day. I think my tins are wrong. I have 2 small ones (which are really too small for quantity of bread in a batch) and a really big one (which seems to be too big). I'm not using bakers flour at the moment because someone gave me a 25kg bag of plain flour. It does rise really well, but it doesn't seem to stay up when I put it in the oven. It flattens off at the top. Even the bakers flour seemed to do that though. Next time I bake some bread, I'll take some photos. It's probably easier to see in a pic.

Introduce Yourself / Just found this place!

I'm Cathy, from QLD Australia. I've had my Thermomix for, hmm, about 6mths. I love it, of course (who wouldn't) and use it nearly every day, depending on what I'm cooking. I mainly bought it for the kneading because I committed myself to making bread last year. I'm still not completely convinved that the bread is the best, but am experimenting with recipes etc and trying to get it the way I want it. I'll be looking thru the bread thread with great interest. As for everything else... I'm completely happy! I love baking day and can whip thru several batches of biscuits, cakes, pikelets with ease and only have a tiny amount of washing up. Next thing on the agenda will be a whopper oven that can handle the baking part. That's what slows me down  :D
