I hate cereal too and I don't even eat it even if it is good for me LOL (well, I lie, I do like cocopops, but I only buy them for special occassions like if we go away on a holiday.)

My usual breakfast is toast or an english muffin with some kind of leftovers or an egg or tinned spag or baked beans.

Tonight I tried Beef and Spinach. It wasn't bad. I think I overcooked the spinach. I didn't put the red wine in coz I don't like the taste. I just put in the equivelent of water and a tbs of stock. I also tried the garlic steamed rice, which was rather nice, but unfortunately, the kids didn't like it. Then they all wanted hot cocoa, so I made it using the hot chocolate recipe in the TM everyday cookbook. That was rather yummy and probably killed the benefits of my workout at the gym LOL.

Bread / Re: pullapart type loaf

Maybe it depends on how thick you roll out the dough? I also think that with all the butter you smear over it, it probably makes the dough different to normal bread when you cook it. I find it hard to make the garlic bread garlicky enough. Oh, maybe I should throw some garlic in the bread dough... With the feta, there was a lot more flavour in the bread.

One batch makes a heck of lot of bread. You could probably halve the recipe. I did the feta bread in 2 cake tins and popped one in the freezer. My family can't eat a whole batch of the garlic bread. It freezes well .

i made the choc honeycomb cheesecake for dh's birthday (though not with honeycomb as it's not gluten free). i was disappointed in it, it was a bit  ??? boring. anyone else? i felt like it needed some baileys or something  :D :D (though i am not a choc cheesecake fan i must admit)

i also did the mayo for the first time, i think i did it wrong as it was really bland and not really very thick (how thick should it be?)

i used it on the coleslaw, but i snuck an apple into the coleslaw (dh hates fruit) thinking it would jsut make it sweet but the apple taste was really dominant. on the flip side ryan loved it where he usually refuses to eat it lol

The cheesecake isn't as flavoured as I would have thought. Maybe it needs more choc in the filling? With the choc honeycomb, it was more flavoursome, but the actual filling is more bland. A shot of Kalua wouldn't go astray in any case LOL There's a lot of cream cheese for the chocolate to contend with and I guess the sour cream takes out the sweetness as well.

I always think the apple comes out dominant in coleslaw. One of the other salads I've had from the thermomix cookbook has an apple in it and I thinks its too much in that too (personal taste, of course).

Haven't made the mayo yet. I did get the grapeseed oil. Just haven't done it.

Thank you. Yes, it tasted as good as it looked. Awesome recipe. I followed it to the T except that I had to cook it much longer. Maybe my springform pan is not as wide and deeper, so it took longer than the hour quoted in the recipe. I think it took about 2 hours.

Oops, might be a bit big. Anyway, here's my pic of the Wicked Chocolate Honeycomb Cheesecake I made on Sat. A big thanks to my friends for having a birthday and giving me an excuse to make it.

Another thing I learnt on the weekend... make sure your dh hasn't put the thermomix bits away without putting it all back together (not that he probably knows how to put it back together). It doesn't work well when the sugar falls down thru the hole in the bottom coz the blade isn't in properly. ::)

Chit Chat / Re: Steaming benifits: Varoma use!!
« on: February 26, 2009, 11:59:33 am »
I don't use the varoma much because to feed a family of 6, I usually cook more than it holds. I should get into the habit of using it to steam veges, but I usually cook mashed potato or pasta in the TM and am not sure if I can do the vege in the varoma at the same time. I did try steaming vege the other day while I was cooking something.. oh, I think I did hungarian goulash and then I did mash after and with the 100deg temp, even for the 40mins didn't cook the carrots or frozen peas. Just didn't get hte steam up.

I cooked corn tonight in the basket - 2 cobs, each cut in half, maybe 2 cups of tap water and varoma temp for 20mins. I just guessed the time, I had no idea. I'm don't really like corn on the cob, but I had a taste and I think it was cooked ok. No one else complained  ;D

Another adaption - I smeared chilli feta all over it and tossed around a few olives. This loaf was really tasty and moist. The chilli wasn't that strong (not as eye watering as when I tasted it at the cheese place.. that put me off the chilli feta, but dh really liked it so we bought some).

I made the chilli feta one and a garlic one for a bbq lunch on Sunday. People's interest perked up greatly when they realised I made it  :D It must have tasted so much better after that news

Bread / Re: Varoma Bread

I adapted this to make "raisin" bread. Increased the sugar to 3 tbs, added 1 tsp of mixed spice, 1 tsp of cinnamon and near the end of the kneading, threw in a handful of sultanas. It's really yummy, toasted with butter.

I really like the varoma bread (recipe in the bread section). It looks a bit anemic, but it's very soft and moist. The Varoma Chicken Chilli dumplings are sooooo nice!

Today I'm making bread, white choc chip biscuits, chocolate slice, orange cup cakes (recipe from the tm cookbook).. probably something else, haven't decided yet. Need to restock the freezer.

Just to report the Wicked Chocolate Honeycomb Cheesecakes is AWESOME!! So smooth, creamy and delicately chocolatey. I took a pic... I'll have to upload it first and then figure out how to post it.

I also made Sorbet (Pine/Orange) for the crowd I had here today.
